We did not have a good experience with K&C, but I feel like I can't mark them any lower than 3/5, because the reason for the bad experience was the landlord rather than the agent. That said, the agents dealt with a bad situation very poorly, so we weren't impressed. We had an offer accepted to rent a flat, and after having had our references successfully cleared through with K&Cs poorly organised and ill-communicated reference process, the landlord pulled out of the deal just before we were to sign contracts. We were given some nonsense reason for this, but essentially it left us with nowhere to live, and because the referencing process had been drawn out and poorly organised, we were running out of time before the contract on our current flat ran out. A very stressful situation to be in, and although not the agent's fault, the way they dealt with it was terrible. I got a rather abrupt phone call explaining the situation, and then when I asked for the holding deposit to be returned (a deposit that is much higher than the equivalent fee with several other Brighton agents, £450) so that we could try to find another flat before we had to move out of our current one (not an unreasonable request!), the agent first suggested we could leave the deposit with them 'in case something else suitable turns up with us at some point' - a ridiculous comment given the situation. I explained that wasn't a satisfactory solution, because we were pushed for time to find somewhere, and we needed that £450 freed up to pay the deposit on somewhere new. They then took over a week to get the money back to us - very poor, considering they had taken the deposit from us in about 2 minutes over the phone in the first place! Generally, I found them to be difficult to deal with - communication was infrequent and the details were vague. The landlord's behaviour is not their fault, hence not a lower overall score, but they could have dealt with it a lot better - simply being more sympathetic and helpful about our situation and making sure we had our money paid back more promptly would have been greatly appreciated, especially given the stressful position we had been forced into....
