I also had misfortune using this estate agent and the service was really poor. Very far from ‘professional and personal’ as advertised. It started ok, we managed to book and view one of their properties to rent in Slough. The Landlord lived abroad so they seemed to be fully managing the property. The property wasn’t professionally cleaned at the time of viewing but that wasn’t a big deal. We had questions about the parking and they said they would call us back to confirm. Before I forget, the agent who showed us the property, Karl was polite, pleasant and informative, as you would expect. Following their phone call we wanted to take the property and completed all their forms. We wanted to pay their fees but Louise Mcnab told us she needed to speak to the landlord and will let us know. This is where the things went sideways. Nobody ever called us back or emailed. I was curious to see how bad their service really is so I called them every day for about a week. Every day I would be told, your agent is dealing with your case and we will ask her to give you a call back. Of course nobody ever called back. Once somebody told me “ I will e-mail her now and I will give you a call back” and guess what, nobody called me back. Eventually, after a week and daily calls to the agency, I managed to speak to my agent, but only to tell me that she was sorry and the Landlord has decided to go with someone else”. I understand this, but never calling you back and keeping you informed is simply dishonest and rude. Also, the fees they charge both the tenants and the Landlords are extortionate. Although they are similar to other high street estate agents. For example, referencing £180 inventory report fee of £153 and contract fee of £120. How is this justified? I used online estate agent and rented my house in days for £70 and no cost to tenants. Not to mention the service I received was excellent. I was able to call my agent any time, if I emailed them they responded in matters of hours.
So if you are prospective Landlord, I would strongly suggest that you save your money, save yourself headache and use online estate agent. It’s a lot simpler than it looks, not to mention value for money. If you are prospective tennant then all I could say to you is good luck.
Personally, I think high street estate agents will soon become obsolete like Blockbuster, because they charge way to much for mediocre service.
To Aaron James, please there is no need to respond to my comments, with your standard ‘we are sorry’ response, but learn from this and improve your services. Competition is high both on high street and on-line so unless you do, you may not last as long as you think.
