My review is to let you know, but for your poor reviews and your know-it-all responses you just lost a huge contract that would have gone on for years. Think on Sir before you respond to ex clients. You're not helping things.... Read more

Like many others who have written reviews on Google reviews, and also on other review websites (Yell etc), I have also fallen victim to this letting agencies dubious methods regarding withholding money from deposits, despite handing my flat back in a condition that is, quite frankly, much better than the condition in which I received it. I have had £130 withheld from deposit for my flat, despite the fact that me and my father spent two days solid completely cleaning the flat from top to bottom. They have sent a copy of the checkout report that shows a woman holding wet wipes with smudges on them. How this equates to the flat requiring a £130 clean is beyond me. They also claim that the bedroom carpet requires shampooing, which is completely unnecessary. Another statement on the check out report included the fact that the freezer had water in the drawers. This is again, in my opinion, an unreasonable observation, as if the fridge freezer is switched off, and the doors left open prior to me checking out, then of course there will be some water accumulating in the drawers. Again, I feel that issues such as this fall some way short of necessitating a £130 clean. Having emailed my concerns to the letting agency, I have received no response. I have, however, received communications stating that this company is to be acquired by Bowman Rebecchi. One can only hope that these new owners are a great deal more reasonable than the previous owners regarding the returning of deposits. In the meantime, I would strongly advise anyone considering moving to the Greenock area to look elsewhere, in order to save yourself a great deal of hassle.... Read more

As a property owner I employed Castle Estates (Glasgow) Ltd, based in Greenock to fully manage my properties, due to the fact they were a small, independent, family owned letting agency, whose employees live in the local areas. However, over the years i have found that the company put their own financial interest above service, decency and fair play. I have read the other reviews on this site and the owners responses. Previously, I expressed my disappointment in the company, when they charged a tenant £150 for a 2 hour clean following check out. (I have now found out that the same company would charge me £100 for the same service if I booked them directly).Furthermore, I recognise names of individuals who have provided the company with a 5 star rating. One has the same name as a company director. Another, has the same name as a contractor associated with the company (He provides a good service, issuing gas certificates) I could go on and on and on.......However, would like to offer tenants and property owners some general advice: Tenants: Request the address of your landlord and provide them with feedback on the service you are receiving from the letting agency. If you are a long term tenant and you are inconvenience by frequent inspections ask the landlord if she/he would considered reviewing the frequency of the inspection visits. Landlords: Look at the details of your contract: If it has clauses which mention sole agency, charges for arranging maintenance works, % of the sale price if you choose to market you property while tenanted. Ongoing charges for tenants even if you change your letting agency (on top of a finders fee). Then I suggest you remove them by putting a line through them or consider using another agent with a less complex contract. The current average maintenance charge for the area is 10% plus vat (ensure that the agency has no minimum monthly charge) If your tenant end their tenancy, then this would be a good time to review your contract and check out the competition. The area does have some good estate agents. Always select your own tenants and provide them with a contact address. If a situation arises consider asking your tenant to pay the rent directly to you and provide them with a receipt. Seek legal advice and do not give in to acts of intimidation.... Read more

Shocking agency. Not helpful when i was moving up to greenock last year. More so recently when I enquire about a property and speak to someone on the phone tuesday morning. I was told they would get back to me and nothing. 1 star is generous. The other negative reviews make sense.... Read more

Don't rent from this estate agent! My grandad was just robbed of £150 of his deposit for the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. We moved him to a cheaper property as he has dementia and not having to pay an extra £41 the first month and from the second month onwards £87 (apparently they had made a mistake) to his rent every month was one less worry. The flat was not spotless when he moved into the flat, the carpet was dirty from foot traffic coming in and out, I presume from previous tenants but we didn't complain. My family cleaned the flat to a higher standard than when he moved in but I will admit since the woman wasn't supposed to come and inspect the flat until later that day, there was still some mopping to be done when she turned up early but at least the carpet cleaner was still sitting there after we cleaned all the carpets. But how that woman can justify £150 for "cleaning" is ridiculous I'd love to see how this woman lives with herself and hope she gets the same treatment when she's a pensioner! The apparent cleaning bill came from things such as dust on the lights, dust behind the toilet, some crumbs in the corner of the kitchen drawer. Their vicious search for pathetic reasons to scam people out of their money would rival a corporate company in their greed, hardly what people think of when they hear "family run company". Absolute disgrace!!... Read more

I am an 70 year old xpat who lives in Spain and it was only 2 days ago I first heard the name Castle Estates, operating out of Greenock, particularly with regard to one of their employees called Katie. How I wish I was in Scotland at this time as I'm sure I would be meeting up with "this Katie". During a telephone conversation with my sister Liz it became apparent to me something did not go too well between her move from Largs to her new home in Hamilton. I had to press her why my gut told me something must have gone wrong somewhere. Wrong somewhere ? No, not somewhere but " someone". Katie whatever her surname is. My sister has moved many times from a rented property to another and never ever had a problem with regard to the condition of the property she was leaving, nor any confrontations with regard to rent deposits etc etc. But no, Katie ? was not for allowing this move to be completed without clawing every euro, oops pound out of my sister's deposit she could. From being apparently a nice helpful lady at the time of my sister's entry one year ago she arrived at the Largs Apt. to meet her like, well let's just state Jeykll and Hyde come to mind. Her visit was so upsetting to my sister, who's husband incidentally has had two strokes plus she herself has lots wrong with her, too much to detail here, but Katie ? was on her mission, it got so bad, so obvious all was not going as expected a neighbour of my sister came in during this visit, luckily I'd add. When she seen the way Katie ? was acting, the way she was treating Liz, prancing about like a woman possessed with her camera in hand, so what did Liz's neighbour do ? She took photos on her mobile as she knew everything Katie ? was implying was for one reason and one reason alone, to obtain monies that were not due. I'll stop now as my anger is resurfacing, but will conclude stating that I have googled Castle Estates, and the reviews, well most of them are One Star, if only Zero ????'s were allowed. Thankfully as far as I'm aware my sister Liz and brother in law George got their deposit paid in full, but sadly I truly believe the experience of that day, the way Katie ? treated my 72 year old sister has caused her so much stress and anxiety and I fear Ms Jekyll and Hyde has acted totally unacceptable towards her. Need I state, (stated in other review/reviews) think long and hard before dealing with this company.... Read more

Our experience of Castle Estates was excellent. We were leaving our last property after the owner decided to sell. We saw a flat through Castle that we thought we would like, but both of us worked and it was not possible to visit during Castle’s business hours. Neil came on his own time on a Saturday and showed us around. When it turned out that it wasn’t quite what we were looking for, he gave us addresses for another couple of properties and organised an out of hours visit for one of them. That one was the property we took. It was perfectly clean when we got it. And there were no problems with the paperwork. The one potential problem could have been our two cats. Many owners will not allow pets. Castle helped with this, arranging with the owner that the cats be allowed. When we left (again because the landlord decided to sell up) we had an inspection by Castle. The inspection was thorough, and everything was checked for cleanliness, dust, etc. That is what I expected - it is part of the agent’s job to ensure this. We had cleaned thoroughly, including dusting, washing windows and shampooing carpets. We left it as we found it and had no problems. Our deposit was returned quickly and without any deductions or hassle. We are currently not renting through Castle - but only because our current rental property fitted all our needs and we saw it before Castle could find us one. Staff were helpful, friendly and polite. It was a pleasure dealing with them. I would have no hesitation in using Castle Estates again. And if I had a property that I wanted to rent out I would have no hesitation in asking them to manage it for me.... Read more

I wish I had read these reviews before going with this agency. I spent hours cleaning out the flat I had rented, only to get a report saying the flat needed to be cleaned. Issues were things like slight dust on a skirting board, some water in the defrosted freezer draws, more cleaning required in the bathroom, washing machine rubber needs cleaning. Inside the kitchen lamp shade dusty. I certainly left the flat as clean if not cleaner than when I moved in. I think it's just a scam to keep deposits. On the other side of things I reported that the toilet was not flushing in August and it's still not been fixed two months later - I've only been spending the odd day in the flat since August so it wasn't a major problem, but the principles remain that I was still expected to pay full rent on a flat with no flushing toilet - then they have the cheek to pick on a bit of dust on the towel rail. Nice people when they want you to move in, not so when you move out and want your deposit back. I was thinking perhaps it was just me, but it seems like others are having identical issues. The other thing is because I live a long distance away I could not make the check out meeting. I asked if the meeting could be moved and was told no. But then they actually moved the check out and the inspection was done on a day when I could have been present. I include photo's of the fireplace which were listed as being unclean in the report - have a look and make your own mind up.... Read more
