I did my Bachelor's degree there. Having worked as a university professor for a decade (a different one), I can say that the level of education is just above average. It is overshadowed by the University of Sheffield. However, it's not bad. I am very happy with the career I had so far and I know many SHU alumni who evolved and had amazing careers.... Read more

I do not understand the other 5 star reviews on here because this university is not very good. I had studied a Foundation Degree at another institution that is run by this university. But the course that I have received is very low quality due to a tutor kept marking me down as absent repeatedly from seminars. This will go on to affect my attendance and my overall grades. The lecturer was also being aggressive towards me. This had happened at another institution. So I had taken this to the complaints process where this university is in charge of it. But I had found the management here is very inhumane and selfish. I was promised a fresh start from another institution to come here but this time it was at a university and not at a college. So I had been transferred to here but without realising my Vice Principal had landed me in an overpayment situation. He did not even tell me in advance about the overpayment. I had went to this university financial team to see if they could help but they said no despite being a full time student here. So I went to the Students union at this place, at first I thought they could help me but I was wrong. The union here is very unhelpful and unprofessional. So not only is the management being unprofessional but their services are also lacking. So with no one to turn to with my overpayment situation I had felt a sense of isolation. This is neglect because the financial team nor the student union did not bother to help me. I had been fooled by this university and the college with both promising me a fresh start. They both got me enrolled and everything only to to find myself U turning because the management did not keep their promises they had told me in a email. They would not even bother to go all the way and grant me one year's worth of tuition fee when all of this situation had came about because of a lecturer. They had expected me to take out another tuition fee loan in the end. The managers show and have no empathy towards a student that comes and studies here. They just care about your money nothing else from my experience. They disregard that you have received a poor experience and would try to wrangle and use scapegoat to cover up their own faults instead. I thought this university was going to be excellent but this is not the case. I would say it is false advertising because they did not provide me with an excellent experience but a poor one instead. I am disgusted to have this university on my doorstep due to all of the bad experiences they have given and put me through. Please do not come here otherwise you will be putting up with poor management.... Read more

Sheffield Hallam University has a beautiful reputation in terms of teaching quality, student friendliness and academic support. The staff members are always eager to support the students in the best possible ways to excell in their research and studies. The Library is conducive and well equipped and is secured with 24/7 service delivery which makes studies fantastic. Sheffield is highly peaceful and I work around the town at anytime of the night without any thought of being harmed. Sheffield Hallam University creates an enabling environment for equality between home and international students to harness their leadership and professional skills for driving the digital age. I love this University! Spacious lecture theatres that accommodate all students comfortably with practical lecture delivery prioritized... I've got over 100 friends across UK universities most of whom complain about many factors in their University's operations, in SHU, We had less/no concern. Enoch DANIEL MA Public Relations .... Pros - The students' experience has been extremely positive in the 5 years I've studied at Sheffield Hallam. The facilities are top notch and well funded - all labs for engineering are modern and great to use, which applies to all other labs and Hallam buildings in general. The library, help centre and on-site restaurants are great, which couples well with the staff being extremely friendly and helpful (including most lecturers). Some lecturers provide a more perspicuous teaching style than others, but this isn't unique to any individual uni. Hallam has become the beating heart of Sheffield. It's located close to the city center, train station, accommodations, and all other amenities Sheffield city has to offer - having Tesco, Cosmo, coffee shops, gyms and various restaurants/bars only 2 - 10 minutes walk away. The students here thrive, and are pushed heavily into being versatile, well-rounded and professional people with excellent abilities/knowledge within their chosen field of study. The university will pick you up from whatever level you're at, without prejudice, and turn you into a professional (so long as you put the work in). Cons - My main gripe has been the Student Union for the uni which could be improved. Not to say it's awful, but compared to some other universities it's mediocre; a few select areas of the uni need to be expanded on and funded. There are a few courses that seem redundant in light of the bigger ones offered, although with increasing specialisation of some areas of industry, it makes sense. I would recommend Hallam to anyone looking to get their professional qualifications and enter a massive range of future opportunities - cheers Hallam! Sidenotes - I've seen a small number of reviews here knocking the uni. They're mostly people who are from other universities/have never attended Sheffield Hallam. The university is held to the same high standards as all other universities in England - there are a lot of hoops to jump through regarding the contents of the course material and how it is examined nationally. Cheating and plagiarism are strictly monitored and WILL land you in hot water. If your work is good, or bad, your grade will reflect it!... Read more

Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) is a public research university in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, and one of the UK's largest and most diverse universities. It is based on two sites; the City Campus is located in the city center near Sheffield railway station, while the Collegiate Crescent Campus is about two miles away in the Broomhall Estate off Ecclesall Road in south-west Sheffield.
