Rude staff, mask bullies, zero compassion and understanding.
Entering into the store i've been asked to wear a mask in a very rude manner. When told the woman i'm exempt, she asked for my exemption card saying is her right to ask for it. Obviously her colleagues jumped on me worst than lions on a deer. I would have expected more understanding, kindness and compassion from an elderly person, taking in consideration more life experience. Unfortunately was not the case.
Very disappointed, specially because my donations are coming in a regular basis for this store.... Read more

A very miserable unfriendly woman works here, no smile no friendliness whatsoever, I have been donating here a lot recently but seeing this ungrateful looking woman is making me rethink....the other staff I have met are all friendly and appreciative and thankful. This woman needs to rethink her attitude!! I will say something to her if she gives me that blank rudeness again. To the other helpers, a big well done!... Read more

This store used to be value for money but as of recent it has become a place modelling other high street store prices things are not reasonably priced anymore that fits a model of a charity if they really want to collect more for the charity they should first start cutting down on paid staff usually managers and deputy managers. Time The Charity Retail Association stepped in and started regulating all these high street charities bit more strictly as they all are usually turning out to be ripoffs.... Read more

FOR THE ATTENTION OF MANAGEMENT OF CANCER RESEARCH CHARITY SHOPS
It's a NO NO Place to work. After three months today I finally lost my patience to continue to work for Cancer research Cranbrook shop and that's only because of Jenny the store manager. From the first day I noticed that there was a rudeness and irritation in her voice whenever she talked to me. The way I was looked on by her as if I was no one and she is some superior class. I won't say this is her Usual nature of behaving as where she talked to me in a irritated tone at the same time she was talking to other staff mostly who are not from outside UK in a very friendly way. This Cancer research shop is mostly run by volunteers of foreign background, unlike Jenny, we spent our time, energy and money for free but yet we are made feel we are not welcome there. I am surprised that even there are so many bad reviews on cancer research because of Jenny and yet the management is letting her run the shop. If management compares the shop standards with neighbouring charity shop, they will realise at what standards the shop is running at. I must say there are also some very nice people like Paul and Mary in the shop with whom working is very inspiring and enjoyable.... Read more

Absolutely right everyone who has given a negative review. This place is a nasty place to work or even visit. The small fat lady Jenni which is the manager is a big fat racist scumbag who should be fired and I think she even eats half of the money fundraised as she forces volunteers to work long hours and is so racist. I cannot even describe the experience as it was so nasty.
The council do nothing to these kind of people and there is no sort of investigation as these bastards get away with this kind of behaviour but I will not make this happen. I hope this lady is behind bars for sure and I am gonna sue her and make sure it gets new management. One of the workers with the manager laughed at me and made fun out of my holy pilgrimage and started insulting my religion.... Read more

I could not summarise it better than the previous review.
The shop is run by someone who is very ugly person on the inside.
Vile and mean manageress who just uses the vulnerable people around her. And although I am not a volunteer in this shop, I have a friend who works there so I know a bit what's going on in there. There is a rumour that the Manager and her brother are up to no good in this shop.... Read more

An honest review from an ex volunteer.
Absolutely horrendous management team. yeni – Nasty, little vile woman who is the Manager.
I volunteered here around August time this year for 5 weeks and can vouch for the low ratings and reviews it has received I witnessed first-hand blatant racism by the manager. In one incident while working here I was told in a pathetic and offensive way that "I smell or something along those lines". Maybe because I am Indian. Very nice from the lovely yenni. Which is one of the reasons I left the job and so glad I did.
I saw other volunteers mostly vulnerable people with health issues and new to the uk being treated very poorly on many occasions also. This is most likely due to the fact that they have volunteer working status with little rights and cannot complain which the management takes full advantage of. Volunteers are regularly yelled at for the smallest of things and treated like 2nd class citizens. The management staff have a serious attitude problem that needs addressing. Discrimination and hostility towards ethnic minority volunteers and customers is a serious issue here.
The short fat person with no manners is indeed yenni, the manager. Very vile person who insults staff, volunteers and customers alike. She should not be in charge of running this place. Which is supported by kind and generous donations from members of the public. Volunteers deserve more respect for their hard work and time they put in all for free. Yet they are treated very badly for all their hard work and effort they put in.
To summarise,
This is a good little charity shop and has a wide range of products at reasonable prices with many good volunteers working here. Especially the elderly lady Mary who has been here since it opened 20 years ago. But it is sadly let down by some of the racist management team. I however still encourage people to buy from here as it is for a great cause and has good bargains. Just be wary of the short vile woman who should be fired.... Read more

Shop is in good location and quiet big. Most items are reasonably priced and shop looks clean. Majority of the staff is also friendly, although some not very knowledgeable. I wanted to reserve an item and was told by some young girl I can't which was a shame. Circumstances did not allow me to take it at that point therefore I let it go. When I visited few days later, I have seen fellow customer who was able to reserve an item. Therefore my presumption is that staff was not trained properly if they can or can't reserve goods for customers.
However I would like to point out as one review mentioned already, I do find the manageress quiet rude at times. I had exactly the same problem with my donations when I handed them over. No thank you and she looked at my bag (it was a bit old one) as if I'm handing over something which is contagious. It was only few tops inside but still some appreciation would be nice. And this has happened few times. I will still visit this store as it's on my way to work, however will avoid that horrible little lady which is the manageress and has no manners.... Read more

Nice big charity shop earning money for a great cause. Plenty of items that aren't clothes, although disappointingly the DVD section is much smaller than it used to be. DVDs and games are reasonably priced though.
I used to donate here regularly, although the lady who always seems to be there, presumably the manageress, put paid to that. When I brought in a large bag of donations I approached her and she looked the other way. When I asked where I should put the bag she motioned to the floor next to her, and continued looking the other way, without saying a word. I left, and have never donated here again since.
Although she seems to have mellowed out a bit since (and now says thank you when I buy something!) I would never donate to this shop again. I'm not sure why it's ok to have someone like this as the local face of Cancer Research. A great cause, but sabotaged by a very rude employee.... Read more
