My second visit to the Royal Academy, the first was Schiele/Klimt, I have been waiting for this since I saw it announced. The perfect artist to compare to Hokusai at the British Museum, Constable has few peers of equal talent when depicting atmospheric condition, apart from his great competitor Turner. The level of detail in some of the sketches looks almost like parallel evolution against Hokusai. The amount of information contained in a 3-minute lighting pen and ink sketch was absolutely phenomenal. Great exhibition, if you only go for the weather! Fantastic venue.. Easy to get to. Going back very soon.... Read more

Summer exhibition- somewhat delayed - interesting mix of material types compared to previous years, prints rubbing shoulders with paintings for example. Emphasis on African Art, exceptional talent in display. Couldn't leave without a cheeky Grayson Perry photo. Not too crowded (still required to book ahead). Recommended... Read more

If you have any interest in art then this is a must see destination. On this visit there was a David Hockney exhibition of his paintings done in Spring 2020. Marvellous! Getting into the building is free but special exhibitions cost and need booking well in advance. A good selection of refreshment options.... Read more

Interesting David Hockney exhibition, trying to figure out if he used certain implements to make some of the marks. Some looked like stencil brush dots and others little curls. Lovely bright colours and enticing blossom on some of the trees
The house was intriguing, one wondered what it was like inside and how old it was?... Read more

Beautiful prestigious building right in the heart of Piccadilly boasting a fantastic exhibition of Hockney works at the moment
Only 3 stars on account of the dismal, virtually non existent signage, once inside, to the exhibition hall itself.
Everyone, on entering, asked the man on the door how to find the Hockney and I heard him repeat directions half a dozen times.
Once at the end of the corridor, no man to ask and no visible sign to help.
Very annoying getting lost when on a limited pocket of time... Read more

Visited The Young Summer Show which contains some really great work from Primary & Secondary schools. Only 4 stars because the work was so badly hung with bizarre groupings and spaces, however the art shone through and so well worth a visit.... Read more

The RA Is very special place, I have been there many times in my adult life. Today I went to see the David Hockney iPad sketches of the French countryside - thank god I got in free as I would have felt cheated by the work on show. Soulless, mediocre repetition from an artist I once greatly admired. There is no wow factor here, you try to convince yourself there is some merit in a couple of pieces but you are only kidding yourself. The final year student exhibition in the back of the establishment is the saving grace of the visit.... Read more

Wonderful place.
Fabulous building too Burlington house.
One of the last of a collection of similar Palatial houses that once stood along Piccadilly when it was a grand residential street in the 18th & 19th centuries..
Some wonderful exhibitions.
Warning however. You can't take pictures.
I tried, but they put them back on the wall and had me arrested.... Read more

One of the greatest art institutions in London, with a wide range of exhibitions changing throughout the year. In the summer there is also an exhibition where a mixture of young and famous artists can showcase and sell their art. It is advisable to book any exhibition in advance.... Read more

For the website ...
Get a grip - the RA website is, at best, mediocre. You represent Art and artists - it should be a beacon of excellence.
The virtual video of the Gauguin & Impressions Exhibition is dire. If you can't do any better then please just show the paintings full on not off to the side and out of focus!
Sorry!... Read more

Came several time for the summer exhibition and other events. Very convenient location, well curated art works. It's not as large as the national museum so naturally it gets busy sometimes. Overall is good and the gift shop has some interesting items.... Read more

One of my favourite places in the world... Just seen Gauguin and the Impressionists show.
Interesting exhibition to see perhaps because of the paintings that aren't so often on show as the more iconic images.
(My favourite was by Sisley.)
Staff were friendly, and very helpful.
You must have a visit there.... Read more

There was a new exhibition by Young Artists 2020 at the Royal Academy. We didn't know what to expect on our virtual tour around the exhibition. But its quite extraordinary to think that these young people have such vision and are able to apply their nurtured skill to a peice of art worthy of the Royal Academy. The future looks bright for these youngsters, so remember where you saw them first. (There are some photos of the winning artwork attached to this review.... Read more
