Awful estate agents! We rented a house through them in July for a tenancy starting in August. The property is landlord managed and JCP just let it to us. Initially they lied to us on viewing the property, stating cleaners and gardeners were included in the rent price and it would be no problem to remove furniture. After we paid our holding deposit and got sent the tenancy agreement to read and sign, it was impossible to get any response from anyone from problems in our contract. We called, emailed and left notes on their online contract system but nothing at all which was so frustrating. However if we didn’t sign and submit our contract in 7 days we would lose our holding deposit (around £600). We decided to sign it anyways, as we desperately needed a house and could not afford to lose this money. Funnily enough, as soon as we signed we could get hold of the lettings agent and informed that the rent did not include gardeners or cleaners, and the property was ‘let as seen’ and we were not allowed to have any furniture removed. Of course our landlady who we let off does not care about this as she wasn’t involved in the lettings process, but this was just so unprofessional and frustrating process being lied to and ignored. We would never go back to rent through JCP again and highly recommend others to avoid!

Honestly, I do not have the energy to go into the depths of frustration that I have with JCP. Unfortunately, I am still awaiting a deposit return over five weeks after leaving the property. I do fully appreciate the global circumstances, however, JCP have been operational and have never provided clarity on ETA's on a deposit return. This has left us in a position of difficulty in our own planning. I have had various conversations with different team members within the organisation (Jericho, Oxford branch) only to be told that there are 'third party suppliers' who are holding up. It's extremely disappointing that any bottlenecks with their own logistical supplies are having an impact our own cash position. I believe it's been three independent contractors that have been the bottleneck. I am at a loss as to whether this is the case or any internal issues. None-the-less, it's unacceptable. I still await responses and am almost powerless (aside with engaging with my solicitor) to expedite matters. I have reviewed various online reviews of tenants who have experienced similar issues over the years so can only attribute it to the level of professionalism within the company. Please consider who you use as a letting agent. I have an extremely poor view of them as an organisation. There have been additional issues that I will save all of our time on also.

By far the worst experience we've ever had from an estate agent! It took over a month and a half to get our deposit back, meaning we very nearly could not pay the rent on our new flat and faced eviction. Typically deposits should be given back in 10 days, but this was not the case here. We were also charged over £300 in cleaning fees despite the fact we left the flat in a much better state than when we found it. They even tried to charge us for lightbulbs that were missing when we got there. They also used the classic strategy of charging us exorbitant cleaning fees and then trying to look reasonable by saying that we could meet them 'halfway' when there should have been no fees in the first place! The communication in particular was dire. We were constantly ringing and emailing trying to get hold of the office and being ignored. On the other hand, when it was time to get money from us the service suddenly became marvellously efficient! They also attempted to get us to pay 2 months rent in advance despite the fact that this was not in our original contract. If we had not disputed this and gone into their office I have no doubt they would have been happy to be in breach of contract and take the two months rent from us. Fortunately, our experience with Paramount Estate Agents in London has been far superior. There are good estate agents out there no doubt, but I definitely recommend avoiding this one!
