Study reveals February as the best month to sell your home

Calling all homesellers! New study from property market leader RightMove has revealed that February is the best month to sell your home in the UK.

So far in 2024, the number of buyers contacting agents is already hitting higher figures than 2023 with an 8% increase. On top of that, the number of new properties being listed by sellers has jumped by 11%, just in time for the surge in activity.

A study by RightMove revealed that February takes first place when it comes to selling your home. As well as finding a buyer the quickest, home sellers who list their home in February are also most likely to be marked sold subject to contract.

In fact, on average, homes listed in February have only taken 51 days to find a buyer, just pushing past March and January by 1 day.

Not only that, homes listed in February have the highest chance of finding a buyer at 66.4%, while March just slips through the cracks at 66.3%. In fact, February now matches the popularity of Spring as it catches up with April’s usual top spot.

The same could not be said for October, which was revealed to be the worst month to try and sell your home. Fittingly for the spooky season, homesellers in October saw an average of 63 days to find a buyer, while only 63.6% of homes listed during that month went on to find a buyer.

CEO and founder of GetAgent, Colby Short said, ‘Of course, it’s not always possible to plan out your home sale to the exact date. Life can throw you curveballs, no matter how prepared you think you are. But for those with a bit of wiggle room, it’s definitely worth considering a February listing if you’re looking for a speedy, successful sale.’

And with February just around the corner, home sellers need to capitalise on the opportunity. With buyer interest on the increase, it’s time to look for agents who know how to market a property, price competitively and get the sale done.
