Beyond useless! Poor communication throughout the lettings process and just abysmal at finding suitable and reliable tenants. The main priority would appear to get anyone in, regardless how their references stack up, and get you on their books. I've now last eight months rent (and counting) due to their ineptitude in sourcing tenants who can actually pay. On top of this, they're an absolute nightmare to deal with and I've been pushed around from pillar to post on just about everything. The only time they are quick off the mark is when they can bill you for something and presumably take their cut. Avoid.... Read more

Phillips & Still - Brighton

After over 20 years in our home, it was time to move and we chose to go with Phillips and Still on the back of its recent ratings in Brighton as the "best sales branch of the year". They made an excellent job of presenting the property on their website and soon came up with plenty of prospects, managing all the viewings for us. The second quarter of 2021 was a frantic time on the property market, coming out of the pandemic and a with a looming deadline with a stamp duty "holiday" due to finish at the end of June. A good solid buyer was soon found. Things had gone well so far but it was then that P and S really earned its keep. Senior negotiator Ollie Solomons was our main contact and impressed us during price negotiations with the buyer, doing his hardest to get us the best deal. After 20 odd years we were both pretty out of touch with the mechanics of property sales and he took time to keep us well briefed on where we were and helped and soothed us through what turned out to be a stressful couple of months, with all the uncertainties and ups and downs that seemingly everyone has to endure at that stage. Anyway, to use an Ollie expression, he "got us over the line", with a few days to spare in fact. I'm aware that estate agents don't always have the best of reputations but there are some out there who will go the extra mile for you and do genuinely care about their clients. We certainly had one here. I'm pleased to recommend Phillips and Still and if I were ever selling a Brighton property again (heaven forfend!) I would certainly go back to them!... Read more

It’s hard to work out the point of an estate agent that doesn’t respond to enquiries. I asked for details of lease, etc by email on Thursday afternoon and received a quick response from Josh on Friday morning saying they would send them as soon as possible. The Monday afternoon I chased them up with another email. No response. Now, a week later, still no response. How rude, I shall look elsewhere.... Read more

Maslen Estate Agents - Lewes Road

I've always been quite skeptical about having hard standards for businesses like this. Maslen proved me completely wrong. I was lucky that the sellers of my newly acquired property went with them as the service provided by Maslen during the process was absolutely stellar/perfect. Responsive, sincere, caring, informative. Only minor exception was the initial view; the agent showing was definitely "not feeling powerful" on that specific day.... Read more

My dealing with Maslen goes back a few years as Nick sold my first flat in 2013 and it was a very smooth affair. This time around I didn't have Nick from the word go and it wasn't as good a start but, before long, Nick and Paula this time, recovered my confidence in them by handling a very tricky sale in a tough market condition as the one we're in right now. Nick is a pillar for Maslen and his boss knows it too but my praise and my thanks this time go to Paula as she did all she could, which in this cases is keeping me up to date and reminding all parties of their responsibilities at hand, pushing, chasing and finally completing. A great big thanks to the Team at Maslen !!! I've got nothing more to sell and no longer live in England but, if I will ever come back, I'll be looking you up to get my new home ... Cheers, Fabio... Our dealings with John Hilton from start to finish were professional and very helpful. They continued with their help after the completion of our sale. They kept us up to date at all times. My son and 4 other students rented a house from John Hilton for 2 years. John Hilton were totally unresponsive when there were problems in the house, such as the oven breaking down. It took 4 months for John Hilton to finally fix the oven and that was only because I, as a parent of one of the students, kept phoning to speak to the manager to try to get all the problems in the house sorted out. Not only the oven didn't work, but some windows didn't close, there was mould on the walls which they blamed the tenants for and other problems too many to list. The students paid their rent every month without delay and we cleaned the house thoroughly when they left. John Hilton decided that the house wasn't clean and decided to only give back £150 to 5 students from a deposit of £2700! I am absolutely disgusted with John Hilton as agents and we are still fighting to get a full refund of the deposit. I would definitely not recommend these agents to anyone.... Read more

Thanks so much to Paul Hawes for being such a star and a pleasure to deal with - he's a real credit to Hamptons. Paul made the whole renting process very clear and easy - he went over and above to help with finalising everything. Great attention to detail, professional, thorough and the nicest estate agent I've ever come across. In a few words, Paul is the man!... Read more

Very poor experience with this agent. They managed the property but did nothing about a leak that was reported to them and confirmed by them by email. I have suffered damage to the contents, my insurance premiums and excess have increased, the owner suffered damage to their flat, and Hamptons International have denied all responsibility. Even though they manage the flat they did not visit until 6 weeks after the leak was reported. Alison Carriban-Hill... Read more

AVOID at all costs. I can only go on my own experience, but I would urge anybody against using this company - and specifically this branch. I must stress that this is just my opinion, based solely on what they put me through. But I also cannot stress enough just how BAD MY EXPERIENCE was. They were rude, unhelpful, unprofessional and, frankly, incompetent. I had no idea who to speak to when we had problems. They deflected any responsibility when things went wrong and sided with the landlord on EVERY occasion. They even chased us for rent which had been paid! The idea that they are supposed to be there to help paying tenants is a joke. They effectively acted as a mouthpiece for a landlord who was just as rude and unhelpful, refusing to deal with the most menial problems. Even a phone call was an ordeal, which would invariably result in a confrontation. They also sided with the landlord over a disputed deposit once the tenancy had finished. The tenancy deposit scheme eventually ruled in my favour and returned the deposit, but it went on for far longer than it should have - which was largely down to Fox and Sons. Again, this is just my opinion. But look elsewhere if you can. Their FEES are also extortionate ... Read more
