Having lived in London since relocating from the States over 12 years ago, I have dealt with a number of real estate brokers. None have been so woefully bad as Chestertons in London W2 – the "service" I received is so totally awful it cannot be called a service.
An agreement was signed by both parties on a prospective sale agreeing to commission of 1.25%. The property was sold and Chestertons sent an invoice charging commission at 1.5%. When I refused to pay the difference, the South African real estate agent Dylan James turned up at my house and literally tried to kick my front door in. My daughter (aged 15) was inside and terrified. Mr James proceed to loiter at my front door for the best part of an hour - smoking cigarettes, shouting and threatening violence. Upon eventually returning to his office he called my wife on her cellphone and threatened to employ heavy-handed debt collectors if I didn't cough up. I refused to pay a penny more than the rate agreed. Mr James eventually and ungracefully accepted. This firm is arrogant, dishonest, and inefficient.
Bad experience with short let and sales service
Sales commission is three times more than competitors yet I found their performance to be worse.
I discovered that the sales agent lied about doing viewings for my property I think so they could meet their viewings quota. Even with 40+ apparent viewings and an 8% asking price reduction I did not get a single offer in 9 months of advertising with them. After switching to another local agent with the property marketed at the same price I had two offers within a few weeks.
Despite paying a 30% fee short let management service foxtons failed to pay or notify me of council tax / Thames water invoices which were then referred to debit collectors who I then had deal with to resolve the issues. If you are considering short let I recommend using an AirBnb management company. Costs are lower (12% instead of 30%) and the profit / yield is much higher.
I would like to thank Alina for her attention to detail, fast response and help during my tenancy. I have a lovely flat that doesn't cause problems, but in the small things that have arisen, she has been so helpful and responsive regarding any maintenance issues and is willing to resolve the issues immediately. Im glad she is my point of contact, wouldn't want anyone else!
UNPROFESSIONAL AND VERY POOR SERVICE
Extremely poor service from Complete Ltd: I paid during one year long the full rent of a flat which had a broken window which couldn’t be opened at all, preventing the access to our terrace! While I was promised at the beginning that it would be repaired before I moved in. I had a dozens of exchanges with them, barely any response from them and was finally told that it would be impossible to repair it!
Additionally to that, one of their agents came to introduce the flat to potential new tenants and thought it would be a good idea to open the faulty window! Of course, he couldn’t close it anymore and decided to leave the flat unattended with an opened window: first, anyone could have come in the flat and it was very dangerous; second, they couldn’t sort the situation quickly and I had to endure the cold and wind for two days in the middle of January. No need to say I never had compensation for that.
On top of that, when I exit the flat, I had a professional cleaning service, which I proved and they decided to charge me £60 without any good reasons … I contested it, notable mentioning that I have paid the full price of a flat that was not fully functional but they did not do any gesture.
I will never use Complete Ltd again, would strongly recommend anyone to NOT use them and will make sure to be very vocal about how poorly they manage the service for the flat.

These guys will CON you! AVOID this agency. They will take your deposit and stop responding to your emails and will not call you back. No heating or hot water in the property. DO NOT BE FOOLED! This agency should be blacklisted!

Politely asked for a refund for which I was told I would be called back, I had to call back two days later.
