They will take your money and ignore you. After months of emailing and phoning I would advise avoiding this company.. However although the production team left me feeling ghosted another dept stepped up and has resolved all the issues and I am happy with the outcome.... Read more

I had been recommended Austin Macauley Publishers by my secondary school and went ahead and passed them on a manuscript of my first book. The team was extremely helpful, answered questions responsively, and edited my manuscript to a high standard. My book now having hit the market, I couldn't have asked for a better publisher to do the job. Would definitely recommend Austin Macauley to new writers everywhere.... Read more

Complete scam unfortunately! Do not use!!!! I paid out £2500 to create a children's book and the quality of the illustrations were moderate but the desktop publishing was absolutely shocking. I had to manage the process myself so the book didn't look like it had been created by a 5 year old at home.
The marketing and after sales support is non-existent so don't expect to make any money back from your book. This is basically how the company makes money! Authors pay a high price for a poor quality book to be produced and then Austin Macaulay don't have to print many copies because there is no awareness or demand for their books due to no marketing. Unless you want to spends £1000s on your own marketing and branding to try get your book out there, your book will not make it big or any money through this company sadly. True facts!
I sadly feel embarrassed I fell for it as that money could have been put into my children's savings instead of into this scam company :(
Please believe the bad reviews and keep trying with literary agents rather than vanity publishers.... Read more

Austin Macauley did a beautiful job on my book " The Beaumont Werewolves and Vampires Society." They did a brilliant job on the copyediting and proofreading. They would not let it go to print until I was happy with their work. I was really happy with the cover for the book. If I needed information to do with the book. The firm got in touch very quickly.... Read more

The publisher agreed to accept the title we have submitted. As a first time author, my wife being made to pay £2500 for the creation of the book as she has submitted only the manuscript.
For this amount of money, we have received the following:
- Illustration (of good quality)
- Marketing (fleeting at best and further advertisements would cost hundreds of pounds)
- Catchy blurb.
What we have lacked and was little willingness on the publisher's end to provide:
- Information for first time authors where the process of creation and what work needs to be done with a book are being laid out in DETAIL.
- Formatting/editorial work. We could not believe the negligence as for £2500, you would expect this to be included in the service which would cost below £50 even if it is outsourced to a freelancer. It is not and was not mentioned anywhere. All is hidden behind the mantra of "It is your book, you know what is best for it". As a first-time author, that is hardly applicable or fair.
It is more akin to getting away with the least amount of effort, meanwhile maximising profit. I am sure, there is a cadre of authors who are prioritised and looked after well but for unprepared first-timers, this is a publisher hell and a rip-off.
You are better off doing things independently through freelancers and publishers who are doing the marketing from your royalties instead of taking cash in advance. Do your research as your hand will not be held for sure.... Read more

Austin Macauley helped me bring a longtime YA project to life. "Zenith" is a departure from my previous genre of true crime and crime fiction. I needed a fresh publisher to work with and AM grabbed the manuscript. Sure, I had to pay some dollars to assist with the production costs, but - in my case - the investment was worth it. AM worked hard to produce a slick-looking book. I do have to say that:
1) Patience was a virtue (the production process understandably lagged during the height of the COVID pandemic in the UK).
2) Being from Australia I had to deal with staff via email only.
3) And being a former journalist I was able to ensure the editing/proofreading process was done well.
A major bonus was the level of collaborative control I had over the design of the book. And I was offered numerous opportunities to amend and edit the copy to my satisfaction. (Authors don't necessarily get these freedoms at major publishing companies.) The marketing team at AM loaded "Zenith" on to numerous book-selling sites (including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, Booktopia, Dymocks and Target). They created a colourful author website for me (which I add to regularly). And they produced a book trailer for their You Tube channel/Facebook page (I was able to suggest amendments to the trailer to help it suit the book). AM also sent me 25 free copies of "Zenith", along with posters, bookmarks and flyers. If you don't have an agent or any ins with major publishers, and you're prepared to shell out some coin to assist with costs for a flash book with benefits, then I'd strongly recommend Austin Macauley Publishers.... I submitted my manuscript to Austin Macauley on the 26/4/2021, and after submission, the website said I would get a response in 2 to 3 working days. In the confirmatory email, it said I would have a response "within the next couple of working days".
As this is the first time I have tried to have a book published, I was excited to get such a quick response, and, unlike with many other publishers, I was excited to get a response whether I was accepted or rejected for publication and to receive feedback if I was rejected.
However, I did not get a response, and I understand that due to lockdown it is busier than normal, so on the 10/05/2021, two weeks after submitting my manuscript, I sent an email enquiring when to expect a response.
It is now a full month since my initial submission, and other than the confirmatory emails, I have not heard anything from Austin Macauley, despite them claiming to get back to me in just 2-3 working days.
This lack of response and professionalism has really disappointed me, as I was looking forward to hearing back from Austin Macauley, whether or not they accepted my manuscript.... Read more

Austin Macauley published two of my books. These were both with standard contracts and with no payment involved on my part. This is the exception to the rule, as authors are usually taken on once they've paid a considerable sum. From the production point of view, I'd say that Austin Macauley are committed and professional, although one gets the impression that their staff are relatively inexperienced and there seems to be a lot of turnover. Where everything falls down is with their promotion. Austin Macauley are releasing so many books that there's simply no way the average book is ever going to sell more than a handful of copies. If an author is prepared to do the legwork himself, sales may be a bit better than this. Neither of my books sold more than a few hundred, so both ended up being de-published after a couple of years. Publishing is a tough business!... Read more

They are good at want they do but they need see it from the authors side not many of those authors have money to throw away this is way I think that Austin Macauley should consider changing their Publshering contracts as one of the best publishers in the Uk they should work closely with the authors and keep them informed of How their book is doing as one of their of author I'am happy that they took my book but I don't see way they can't put this book on CD for those people who wouldn't be able to download
Thank you

Still waiting on the refund of £2,300 that I requested over three years ago..
if anyone would like to look at glassdoor.co.uk to understand how this company operate, and how they treat their authors and junior staff please do...
They will tell you everything you want to hear to get your ££££. They lack marketing and promoting skills and could not prove to me that they asked any retailer to take on my comic... I mean badly put together book!. (It said currently unavailable on Amazon for a long time). I HAVE PROOF, screenshots and also added a couple of FACTUAL pieces of evidence below.
Many staff members have been employed and left the company and my case has never been resolved due to being passed from person to person.
AUSTIN MACAULEY REMOVED ME FROM THEIR AUTHORS LIST AND AXED ME FROM THE COMPANY DUE TO A GOOLE REVIEW IN 2018, FROM THEN I DO NOT OWE A CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION TO ANYTHING!. So as for no longer being “part of their company” they are still trying to control me by sending me threatening emails! ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS GIVE ME MY REFUND TO THE BANK DETAILS I GAVE THEM!.... Austin Macauley have given me the opportunity to see my first Children's Storybook Published. 'Jack, The Pirate with a Secret' by Nanny Sue was Published January 8th 2021. AM worked with me throughout the whole process, always ready to listen and respond to my ideas and requests. The process did take a little longer than anticipated but in view that we are experiencing such challenging times I found that AM were determined to see my book published. The quality of the Books (Hardback and Paperback) are excellent; also the Promotional Materials are excellent too. Thank you Austin Macauley you have made my dream come true. After a very promising start in January 2019, that my book was wonderful, these people rapidly went downhill with different people taking on my manuscript. The original artwork was appalling, nothing like the description they asked me to supply and it took months to finally get a sketch of something close to what I wanted. For months they kept telling me that these things took time if I questioned what was happening.
A proof-reader rewrote quite a bit of my manuscript that would have changed the context of the story, and their English language skills need updating.
I sent my concerns/complaints via two Registered letters as their contract says I should, as well as emailing them, eventually asking to be released from the contract. All of which were totally ignored. As a pensioner, the £2300 I paid upfront in good faith was difficult to find but, sadly, after 19/20 months my book is going nowhere and apparently never will.
For them, the pandemic was a God-send, they started telling me that it was causing them problems. Considering that my book should have been printed and out the previous year, 2019, that did not go down well with me.
They have proved to be completely incompetent and unprofessinal. I have paid for something I did not receive, and I want my money returned.... Read more
