This is the WORST letting agent I have experienced. The condition of the flat they rented out was disgraceful and was riddled with dampness and mold. They had simply painted over it before we moved in using 'anti damp paint' as they said even though backtracking and told us that they had never had any problems with dampness before. We also moved in during December with no hot water or heating as it was broke and also the shower was broken. Apparently it is not their job to check such things before renting out a property. We had countless amounts of problems from pipes bursting to mold growing out our floors and walls and the letting agent wouldn't do a thing. Eventually we had to leave the property due to all our belongings being ruined because of this problem. The company had no complaints procedure as we had put in writing many complaints to which we had no reply as the company said they had 'nothing to respond to' and with no response for two months. After continuously phoning the letting agent and being avoided the owner of the company eventually spoke to me and then even hung up the phone when trying to speak to them at this point it was almost 5 in the evening and he clearly wanted to go home and could not be bothered dealing with the issue and repeatedly said he 'wasn't having this conversation' Blackwells also messed up our paper work before even moving into the property putting the wrong dates on contracts and telling us we owed them money which was not true. Overall a terrible experience with this letting agency and their properties and I would strongly advise anyone who is wanting to rent a property to go elsewhere as you will get no help from this agency and their rude staff whatsoever and also a property that is unsuitable for anyone to live in.... Worst place ever to rent a property from !! They take forever to get anything done in your flat. Also the staff are the least helpful people and look down on you. They are also very cheeky over the phone. ! If I was ever renting a property again I would rather pay more with a better agency that the flats are all in decent condition rather than that place. ... This has to be one of the most shoddy letting agencies that I've had the displeasure going through for renting a property. The issues started as soon as my husband and I moved in. The house was in an atrocious state after redecorating work had been done. There was rubble in the outside bins, dirt in the cupboards, and the workers left painting and decorating supplies in the bath. That's not to mention the rubbish left in every single room! When we called the letting agency, the owner said he'd send a cleaner around by 6pm. Conveniently for them, the cleaner cancelled and the office was shut--and there was no emergency number to get this sorted. We called them the next day and told them we'd do it ourselves for compensation. That came back to bite us when it came to the deposit. Luckily, the deposit scheme found in our favour since we left the house in a much better standard than when received. Speaking of deposit: it took us three months just to hear about when we'd receive it. We were told it was being put into a scheme. this is something that should have happened a month beforehand by Scottish law (although we should have received it back a month before that). We weren't informed of the deposit scheme at first, until we pushed enough and then we were given the incorrect details! It took 20 days to finally get the details and then request the deposit back. There were charges brought against us for things that were their fault, so we had to then go through the dispute system. In the end, we got the vast majority of the deposit back. The letting agency tries to charge for admin fees, stating they are in the contracts. This isn't allowed under Scottish law, and a lawyer during the dispute system confirmed that. Don't pay these admin fees and if you're forced to, make sure you seek advice to get them back!... Read more
