Avoid at all costs, their communication is appalling, I had to employ a solicitor to get my deposit back as no one would answer my emails/messages/calls regarding my end of tenancy. Also landlords beware, in the 5 years I rented with these jokers they only carried out 2 inspections, they will take your money and do absolutely nothing. Any issues we had were generally ignored, or unqualified cowboys turned up at the house. AVOID

My family and I have recently moved out from a lovely apartment near Abbey Fields in Colchester which I rented out through Home Sales & Lettings.
We were very happy there but it was our time to move on.
HS&L were so helpful in securing this rental, it was all completed very promptly and smoothly. I was in contact with Graham throughout out tenancy and he helped us with all maintenance issues arising.
We could not recommend his service enough; with all the other high street sales and lettings agencies you always speak to someone else and have to explain things twice, three times. This is a much more personal and individualised agency with attention to detail and great care.

The worst Agency ever. They mistreated us, very inhumane in our stay in 12 Hakewill Way. They left us without a working fridge for more than a year. I've lost a lot of weight. They responded late and asked for a lot of fees after the tenancy. I will never recommend!!! If you see this agency to let or sell, RUN!!!

We've been tenants with Home To Rent for over 4 years. Emily and Graham have been nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we first spoke on the phone to arrange a viewing, they have gone over and above what has been asked of them as agents. Always available whenever anything needs attention, courteous and understanding.

I have used Home Sales & Lettings to manage my property for 12 years. I have found them to be honest and trustworthy and they have managed the property very professionally. It has been great to know that they deal with any problems that arise promptly and effectively and they ensure any necessary legal requirements are dealt with in good time. Over the period there have been a few tenancy changes which have been handled really well and they have gone smoothly. When I felt that it was the time to give up letting my property Graham even managed to find me a buyer who was happy to take on the property and do the deal without disturbing the tenant and ensuring a smooth handover. Home to Rent has managed my property in Colchester for approximately 10 years. During that time they have managed the tenants and processed their payments, organised necessary repairs and dealt with extraneous events.
I am inherently lazy and forgetful so it is therefore doubly important to me that my property is in the safe hands of someone who is industrious and organised.
Home to rent keep me abreast of things that are going on and, in truth, I rarely think about the property because I don't need to.

I've unfortunately felt the need to leave a negative review. I'm sure the service has been great for many, but despite the respectable and well mannered start to the service, for me and my partner, we've been left with a feeling of mistrust and mistreatment. After Arranging a second viewing and all going well, deciding that we'd found the one we placed a holding deposit down and move quickly to have everything sorted before Christmas. All appeared to be going smoothly however, as soon as references are being passed onto the landlord, an immediate void of communication began. Assuming all was well, after being told as such and now having a date to move in.. We started packing, purchasing a fridge freezer, sofa and so on. Fast forward two weeks before moving in and we still have no communication from the agency or the landlord. Now a little worried, we calling via phone and email to check if any progress has been made, and are left with "we're still waiting for a decision from the landlord". This continues until the last day before we are due to move and we are finally sent an email stating that despite passing references we can't have the flat, with no reason or explanation given. We are told that our holding deposit will be refunded and that they are sorry if this has come across unprofessional. Left almost speechless I call immediately to see if negotiations are still possible in the hopes that a compromise or remedy can be found. But no effort is seemingly made by the Home Sales & Letting/Homes-to-Rent and they simply apologize and state they will refund our holding deposit. Disappointed and demotivated me and my partner attempt to forgive and forget by moving on and looking for new properties to rent. To our horror, despite the only recently dealing with the disappoint of losing the flat we had prepared to move into, we find the very same flat has been placed online on two different websites already. And our holding deposit hasn't even been refunded. We contact them and are met with more apologies stating that they were not aware of this.
Sometimes things go badly, and sometimes things are dealt with fairly. But I feel this was not one of those times. I imagine the landlord felt he/she had been treated fairly, and I can imagine that someone is moving into the mentioned home already, but due to a lack of communication and possibly even honesty, I have no idea. All I know is I've since gone with a different agency and in half the time, am now signed and ready to move in.

Horrific company! I’d never advise anyone to rent a property from these! I lived in my flat for 4 years and got treated like dirt! Had to live in the property for around 3/4 months without hot water (I have a small child), I would text countless times asking for help and get no replies for months and I’ve just left the property because I’ve had enough and they’ve taken 4 months to pay back my deposit, despite a phone call saying I’d get back the majority of my deposit, they tried to take over £550 off me, anyone would’ve thought I’d trashed the place! Such rubbish! Am currently seeking legal advice!

Appalling service. Booked a viewing and nobody showed up. When we rang the office we were told someone had text us the night before to cancel (which was a lie). Made it seem like it was our fault and didn’t seem interested in apologising for their mistake.
