Within the webpage of Applegate properties there is a statement from Amy Wray, the Founder / Managing Director which starts, "My team are not just passionate about property, they're passionate about people [...]". I think this is 100% true of every single member of staff working there. The culture of an organisation is invariably based on its leadership and how they support their staff to do their job well. My experience (despite the house sale falling through due to extreme circumstances outside of the control of anyone but the family buying), was incredibly positive. The staff communicated with me regularly both in the initial instructions ensuring my needs were considered, their advice and guidance to make the best impact for selling my property and the ongoing communication was exemplary. I was made aware of what was happening at regular intervals and Claire felt like a personal friend by the end of it. I say that without her ever crossing any professional boundary - it was her innate ability to care, to make you feel like she wanted what was best for you and your home as much as I did as the seller. She was brilliant when I was the buyer of a property and again kept me up to speed with consistent updates. She did everything she said she would do and more. Obviously when a house sale falls through, and at the 11th hour, it is devastating - the impact is indescribable - the fall through of the sale and the inability to purchase the property you have set your heart on - it hurts. The company, all staff at Applegate, and particularly Claire cared so much then. Whilst it is a business - the financial impact to them, the time and effort they had put in - all that felt like it came second. Instead I felt that for me as the customer, my questions, my feelings and upset were all taken and held so carefully and thoughtfully that it truly helped with the outcome. To end on Amy's statement on their website "[...] It's essential to be completely invested in our clients and have their best interests at the forefront" - I felt Applegate and specifically Claire truly invested in her client and she always had my best interests at the forefront. I am taking a wee break from house selling however I will be back with renewed vigour and I have no doubt which estate agents I will be using. I highly recommend Applegate and will absolutely be back on the market with them as my agents when I decide to sell my home again. Thank you Claire, Amy, Seren, Hannah and all the team there for being an asset to the house buying and selling industry and to Applegate. You are true to your values and so much more. Thank you so very much for everything.

When it came to selling my house it has been an emotional journey, made so much better by everyone at Applegate Properties.
My Mum had the house built and we moved in in 1969. Despite living in different places in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, this house was always home to me.
I started the selling journey after my Mum died, with an online estate agent, which obviously did not result in a house sale. When I rang up about things, I never spoke to the same person twice and the whole process was extremely frustrating.
When the contract ended, I had decided to go with an local Estate Agent, I did a Web search and found Applegate Properties and I am so glad I did. The experience has been like chalk and cheese compared to the online agents. The entire process has been clearly explained to me by Claire, Haley or Amy.When I have rung up for anything. They have taken the time to explain and listen. Selling my house has been a difficult and emotional time but I know that it would have been much worse without everyone at Applegate Properties. First of all i have to be careful what i write because the manager of Applegates has threatened me with a solicitors letter if i say anything defamoratory against them. I thought thats what reviews are for. They cant be good all the time.
I am expressing my disappointment with them over a deposit fee. My son paid a £114 deposit on a house he wanted to rent but failed a credit check after. Its in the small print of an application form that the letting agents MAY keep the deposit if the applicant fails a credit check so Applegates have not broken any rules. I telephoned them to ask why they are witholding the fee. They said " Admin costs ".
I told them that it was alot of money for my son and maybe as a goodwill gesture they could reimburse him. They refused. I am writing this review not to be defamatory against the company but just to make people aware of this process that if you fail a credit check,even if you are unaware of an outstanding debt, you MAY lose your deposit. This is appears to be a process that all letting agents follow.
I would just like to reiterate that in no way am i criticising Applegate properties. Just the process in general that all letting agents follow.

Despite the problems there have been this year with Covid - 19. Applegate Properties marketed and sold our property, quickly and with professionalism.
We turned to Applegate Properties after to having no look with a national chain of estate agents. They started marketing a property a week before the first lockdown in March. This could have been a major setback, it wasn’t. Applegate Properties proactively produced a virtual tour of the property in the first week of lockdown, the first estate agent I had seen do this. So, when restrictions were lifted, they already had a list of interested clients who had seen the property.
The sales agents were very pleasant to deal with, professional and very proactive throughout the sales process. I can’t thank Tayla, Paul and everybody else enough.

We put a holding deposit down on a rental property, only to be told later that they had allocated us another similar property on the same estate.
We had no time to look for an alternative and so accepted the house on offer - it had a much darker, damper garden which was unusable for much of the year.
I found most of the staff to be very nice, but other were quite rude and difficult to communicate with.
We repeatedly informed Applegate of a change to our email address, but they never sent communications to the new email address.
We felt that they always had the interests of Landlords at heart - above those of their tenants.
Following our experience we would not use Applegate again. When looking for a property to buy we discounted those marketed by Applegate.
This review is not connected with a dispute with the landlord as Applegate have implied in their reply.

I’ve never known poor service like it! My parents wanted to view a property and were pressured to take an inconvenient time as they had other viewings. The agents made a big deal about us being gone before the next viewing but two other families were there during our viewing. The guy showing us around was distracted and didn’t have the property particulars.
When we went into the office I was shocked by the lack of interest they showed, we barely got eye contact.
After making an offer we never even heard back. We only know that the property has gone because it’s been removed from the website.

What can I say, Amy Wray BRILLIANT, the Applegate team EXCELLENT. Never mind going the extra mile Amy and her team went much further to ensure problems were resolved quickly and efficiently. When we were told we were being gazumped Amy spring into action with a promise to get us the property and she did.
Before employing Applegates I asked several business people in Holmfirth what they knew about the different estate agents and Amy /Applegates, although relatively new on the scene, got comments like "ruthless" and "gets the job done".
You pay for what you get in this world and I can tell you Applesgate fee, though not the cheapest, is excellent value for money and that is coming from someone who has bought and sold properties in the past.
You won't find better.

The staff at Applegates talked us through the selling options giving us advise on what price it should be marketed at to realistically sell it. We received an offer very quickly which was negotiated with the buyer to achieve the price we were happy with. I called Applegate to ask for their help with finding a new tenant for my house. As soon as I did, the hassle and worry was taken out of my hands. They dealt with every aspect from the current tenant moving out, the cleaning of the house, any refurbishments that were needed, finding new tenants, dealing with references, legalities and the deposit and with inventory both in and out.
They made letting my house so easy that I know, when I need to go through the process again, I will have a reliable estate agent to turn to.

I have been more than delighted with the service I received from all the staff at Applegate. I was very impressed with the high standard of professionalism at every stage. Good mannered and knowledgable (and patient!) staff on the phone and paperwork which covered every detail I could think of (and many I didn't think of!) The research they did meant I am now very happy with a reliable tenant. Applegate also saw to all the business of changing over utlilities and organising the deposit with the DPS. I wanted to say thanks to the team at Applegate and thought a review might be a good idea, since people only usually write about the bad stuff! I’d never heard of ARLA before but Applegate are registered with them and they told me this straight away to reassure me that they did things by the book. I have to say that the difference in paperwork and procedures from agents we've used down south was huge and I think them being ARLA registered had something to do with that. So thank you Applegate!
