The owner of this letting agent literally assaulted me and my friend when we went in to complain about a faulty dishwasher in his flat a few years back. Also, when he moved out of that flat it took them almost a year to pay them back his deposit - they made absolutely no attempt to pay to to him until he literally went in to force them to do it, with the threat of legal action. AVOID!!!!

The worst estate agent in the UK. A useless agent called Attif sent us to a house that wasn't even up for rent and then never showed up to the viewing. After wasting our time he then started ignoring my calls and messages. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

They do not care about their customers. When ever there is a problem they tell the tenats to solve it themselves. Mices are everywhere!!!!!

very bad service, very unprofessional attitude. we tried to purchase a property through them, they asked us for a deposit which we paid, few weeks later we found that the property was sold and they blame us for not progressing with the purchase and refuse to refund our deposit.
STAY A WAY FROM THIS ONE

They tell lies and are chancers who if given the oppertunity will rip you off, my partner and I viewed a property individually at were told conflicting information by their guy atif about rental prices, fees and agreements made with landlord re repairs and rent amount.
Just got a bad feeling from them straight away as you would do from someone who talks to you without ever looking in your eyes or at your face.
After requesting a reduction in rent from the landlord (at atifs suggestion) he then notified us it was no longer avalible and puts it back on their website...steer clear!!

Been flat hunting and found what I thought could be perfect. Arranged a viewing, no problems however the flat needed work. Attif (the agent) agreed the flat wasn't up to scratch so said we would be able to get a rent reduction if we were to put the work into it ourselves. I later emailed to confirm this was the case as he had told my partner different.....he obviously LIED and said the flat had now been taken. I decide to carry on with my flat search to find this flat IS STILL AVAILABLE and the rent price has been reduced! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, PURE LIES!!

PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS! The worst estate agents I have ever used.
I moved into one of city life groups properties on Jan 7 in a 2 bed lovely flat on Moseley high street, the first night I spent there was an absolute nightmare! The flat was above a Sainsburys local and one of the machines in the store room had malfunctioned and it sounded like a car engine was running in the ENTIRE flat! He never thought it a good idea to tell me before I moved in that there was a CONSTANT noise in the flat, as this had been complained about by a previous tenant!!!!
I spent 4 months trying to get this issue resolved with environmental health with ZERO help from Attif (manager at city life group). In fact, instead of helping he was extremely rude and in the 4 months I spent at the flat he(or the landlord) didn't once visit the flat to investigate! I spent the majority of the 4 months sleeping at my brothers as the noise was unbearable. He, nor the landlord didn't ever offer a reduction in rent for giving me insomnia and causing me endless amounts of anxiety.
I left the property half way into the month and he tried to charge me for 2 extra weeks rent the cheeky bastard!!!!!!
I can't believe con artists like this get away with running a company!

Extremely incompetent estate agent. Here are the reasons why:
1: i have put an offer on a flat and never reveived a phone call whether it is accepted or rejected.
2: after two days i called the manager to find out what is happening, i was informed that it is under offer as i have offered for it but still waiting for the seller to let him know.
3: after 3 weeks, i just found out that the flat is solt STC.
Well well well, i let you decide whether to get involved with this agent!!!

AWFUL I had an appointment to see an apartment at 6:30pm and no one turned up. I waited outside for 35 minutes then gave up. Stay away.

Poor communication, lack of honesty, not keen to keep commitments, no transparency.
If I would have read reviews prior to choosing this agency I would have chosen to paid extra quid monthly than renting with them.
Keep away.

This agency is not honest, the guy called Attif lied to me and I lost a big sum of money, so please avoid them. That is a bloody lesson I learnt.

I cannot BELIEVE someone thinks it's ok to ask for utility bills! Whether you have paid the utilities is between you and the company, nothing to do with the letting agents. This is not normal practice.
Anyway when I finally got my deposit back after several months (which someone thinks is OK!? seriously?) the cheque BOUNCED because it was suspected to be FRAUDULENT!
Seriously - I'm sure people can have normal experiences, but it's too risky. How can they also be dealing in unprotected deposits? Utterly shady and completely to be avoided unless you have money and time to waste.

I have to echo what every other person has said. Don't use them, just don't. I finally got my deposit back, less about £50 for a lost key! It took me chasing them for a few weeks to get it though. The trick with asking for the final utility bills is clearly a delaying tactic (or them avoiding doing the contact with utility companies as letting agents normally would). I am so fed up of them I don't think I can be bothered to argue about the deduction, I'm just grateful to have got most of the money back! This may be what they bank on with their attitude. If they ignore you long enough they hope you'll just go away.
My personal favourite experience was the time I was without hot water for 3 weeks, and they could not have given less of a toss. The guy there at the time (I think now replaced by a girl who does appear to be vaguely useful) did the same trick as another review mentions - dodged my calls. If they had dealt with me in a normal manner and explained the problem with getting a repair, and have appeared to be trying to solve it, I might have been understanding. But their methods just made me furious.
When I first rented from them a few years ago, they were fairly normal with a large, busy office and several staff giving a professional impression. Now they seem to have downsized on the office, staff and customer service. Incompetent, frustrating, unprofessional and to be avoided.

I can only speak for my own experience but they were great for me- a very personal experience. I did witness some of the 'dark side' mentioned in other reviews here towards other customers, but yer man is a good guy- just don't mess him around. For example, with the bills, its perfectly reasonable that you should pay them before getting your deposit back, so don't make up 'legal cases' otherwise.
I didn't get my deposit back for 5 months after moving out, but this was the fault of EDF- not City Life. When I finally did get proof of payment, I got the deposit back in my account the following week. The young woman who deals with deposits there is particularly good. There was an unexpected charge in the small print (less than 50) but after having read the comments here I couldn't believe how easy it all was... especially since after 3 months of moving out the flat I wasn't even covered by the Deposit Protection Scheme.
They could have stung me but they didn't- I'd go with them again.

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH CITYLIFE.
Disgusting service. We've been shouted at and threatened to get out of the office. They put the phone down on us and ignore emails and phone calls.
They called my housemate obscene names for absolutely no apparent reason.
They charged us for sending a couple of unqualified cowboys round to fix our washing machine.. the washing machine broke 3 more times so we got our own contractor round who discovered that they hadn't replaced the pump (which they had charged us for!) and the hadn't even screwed it in!
We are still chasing to get our money back from these.
They sent another unqualified 'painter and decorator' round to fix a huge leak in the ceiling; he turned up with a cheap hairdryer to 'dry the plasterboard'.
Absolutely appalling.
PLEASE do not sign up with them, they will steal your money and cause you massive stress having to deal with their incompetence,
