I rented a apartment from Cooper Hirst and found them to be very professional. I didn't have many issues but the ones I did have were dealt with efficiently and to my satisfaction. When I had to vacate 6 months before my contract was up they worked hard to get another tenant in place to avoid me paying another months rent so top marks from me.... Read more

Flat had fleas when I moved in and almost everything had to be replaced whilst I lived in one of the flats they manage, including the cooker which exploded when I was using it (not user error I can assure you) the washing machine, the kitchen taps, the washing machine and the carpet had to be refitted (once the carpet was refitted, I was asked not to hoover too vigorously!) I lived in the flat for less than a year! The kitchen in general was fitted badly, there were gaps everywhere and the flooring in the bathrooms had started to go mouldy, a normal letting agent or landlord would refurb the whole thing.
All of the above would have been liveable if they hadn’t have screwed me over in fees as I left the property. I’d asked if there was anyway I could move out a month early from my contract. They were really lovely about it, they definitely fooled me with this kind attitude they had about me leaving early. They said as long as they could find someone else that would be fine, and they found someone else, which was great for me as I was moving out of the area. They had previously said in an email that I’d need to pay up until someone moved into the property which I agreed to. But they then told me over the phone that I’d have to give them at least a week so that they could inspect the flat before the next person moved in. I assumed, stupidly and naively, that I wouldn’t be charged for this week that they apparently needed me to be out of the property for, but they charged me for the full week and deducted it out of my deposit along with exit and cleaning fees. Therefore I ended up with barely anything left of my last months rent, which they had demanded I pay and they would refund what they owed back to me. I may as well have stayed for the last month and delayed my move out of the area. They made over £250 from this plus the previously agreed fees of £60 and of course the nonsense cleaning fee everyone knows they pocket of £65. I know all letting agents are the same, every penny with little care for the tenant but I’d stupidly believed they were different up until that point. Awful experience and would never use them again and would dissuade anyone I knew to not use them.... Read more
