Poor experience with Elwell Taylor. Arranged to view property at certain time, agent (Sam) arrived late for the appointment. We then felt rushed through the whole appointment.
We were then asked lots of questions by the landlord. The backwards and forwards on these emails lasted many days. And then radio silence. A week or so later I chased up, with an email back from Sam to say that he was on annual leave (fair enough), but most professional companies that you would deal with would pass their work onto someone else in their absence. Sam did kindly respond from his holiday, to say that someone would be in touch. That was now 2 weeks ago and we’ve heard nothing.
I would be unable to recommend this company to anyone, due to a poor experience
Edit. A very undignified response from the owner (as expected). I assure you that if we were at the property for longer than 7 minutes I’d be surprised, as you said yourself it was a box, 20 minutes would probably have been too much, but regardless it felt rushed due to Sam arriving late and telling us that you are short staffed.
Sam was 100% late for the appointment, as if we would be stupid enough to assume because we arrived early then the estate agent would have to arrive early. Comical response there.
“Occasional complaints from prospective tenants who don’t get their own way” well which one is it Adam? Was it the perfect viewing as you said. Or did we not get our own way?
I also find it funny how the negative review that was left for you was almost identical, I would maybe suggest that you look into these matters.
I hoped this review, and the other negative reviews would allow you to grow as a business rather than you just take umbrage and deny it all happened.

I am not one to write bad reviews, however I am in shock with how badly I was treated & spoken to at Elwell Taylor. I contacted them about letting a commercial property for my small but fast growing business. I found a property that I liked and wanted to arrange a viewing. While the ladies that answered the phone were super helpful and friendly I was then unfortunately handed over to a gentleman named Sam Oliver. I explained to Sam that I was very interested in said property and I wanted to arrange a viewing, I had to wait 5 days to view this property as “ they don’t work weekends” which he abruptly told me on the phone & he couldn’t do the next working day either!
I explained that the market is very hard to get into at the moment & things are being sold very quickly so I’m worried that I will miss out hence why I wanted to view the property earlier than 5 days time, he had no compassion on the phone and I felt like I was being spoken to like a child.
I patiently waited until Tuesday (today) with hopes that his “bad mood” and “ bad customer service” was just one time thing as I can understand the last time I spoke to him was a Friday afternoon so he just wanted to get home. This wasn’t the case, I arrived at said property today and wasn’t even greeted, he didn’t introduce himself ( I had to find his name on your website). He didn’t talk me around the property and didn’t even know the answers to my very simple questions such as “where are the toilets located” “what are the business rates”. You would hope as an estate agent showing you around a place that they deal with they would know the answers! Shocking!
Furthermore he proceeded to talk down to me and say that this “premises isn’t for me” and tried to say the he had told me that on the phone which he didn’t, I feel sorry for the person that owns this property as he wasn’t very good at selling it to me!
After looking around the premises with no help or little information, I decided that even if it was for me I wouldn’t ever go for it if I had to deal with Ellwell Taylor again! It’s a shame that from day one It wasn’t a friendly experience, I felt like I was a burden to them! Rather than a customer who is wanting to pay good money for a property and generally needed information and help with finding a premises.
He really let the company down with the way he spoke and the way he comes across! I run my own business and would be appalled if my team members spoke to clients like that!
My complaint is simply the customer service and has nothing to do with the properties that I looked at, like I said even if I found my dream premises I wouldn’t even go for it if I had to deal with him!

From the moment I made an enquiry regarding a rental property via Right Move, everyone has been so efficient, pro active and friendly.

We rent out a four bedroom detached house in Brentwood and towards the end of the tenancy the tenant became quite difficult, We were managing the property ourselves which in hind sight might not have been the best idea. When we finally got the property back in our possession there were still a lot of the tenants items in the house, the property had quite a lot of damage and no cleaning had been done, I was extremely stressed so contacted Elwell Taylor for professional help. Helen then became the contact for the tenant and she negotiated the costs of cleaning and repairs. She also arranged for decorators, cleaners, new inventory, electrical certificate and new appliances to be fitted in the kitchen whilst making sure that we was not out of pocket. Helen and her team found us a new tenant and referenced them for us and they are now living happily in our house. Thank you Helen for all your hard work and professional approach to a difficult situation and to your team for finding us a great new tenant quickly and efficiently

I am less than impressed with this company. I tried to book a viewing with them and the lady on the phone was borderline rude and at the least very terse. I was polite at all times but made to feel as if i was doing something wrong by trying to book a viewing. Furthermore it took repeated calls to actually speak to someone. Unfortunately as a buyer it seems many agents simply aren't interested as thy have a dearth of buyers at the moment,

I was very nervous about renting out my property so I asked several letting agents to talk me through the process but it was not until Helen Hency walk through the door that she put me at ease and I know that Elwell Taylor was the right agent to rent out my property.
Elwell Taylor have been renting my property out since 2010 and I’ve not regretted the decision to use them as letting agent, in this time I have needed to update the kitchen appliances and between tenants I have decorated the property Elwell Taylor put me in touch with number of traders and we have been so pleased with the high standard of work we have used them on our own home improvement and recommend them to family and friends.
I could not highly recommend Helen and her team that are always helpful nothings to much trouble, any issues are resolved very quickly and they regularly inspected with property, prices of minds with a professional friendly service.

My flight was REALLY delayed when I was supposed to move in but she was able to help me and give me keys even though it was late and her off hours. Seriously, if you want managing agents who actually care about their tenants and the relationships they build, Elwell Taylor is the firm you need. They have seamlessly managed my moves from one property to the next over several years. The personal touch is key. Helen and the team were extremely helpful through out my tenancy. I was moving across the country for my job and they helped me negotiate a a move date with the landlord, set up my billing by putting me in touch with the right people. They kept me up to date with any repair works to the communal areas and any issues we as tenants were having.
When I then had to leave the property unexpectedly Helen and the team were really understanding and helpful to help me move out as quickly as possible. And help me sort out the extra fees in a simple manner.

The worst agent, I have ever dealt with, Tenant should be aware of AST contract as it is all about making money for this agent.
The contract is a trap, please get your lawyer to review if possible-agent make up a lot of bespoke clauses that is geared at making more money for them.
Prospective tenant should please take as many pictures of property before agreeing to contract, trust me, they'd hit you with all sorts to avoid paying security deposit when vacating the property.
The staff are rude, most especially Helen, who can be really condescending most times.
Unnecessary charges and visits to the property, even after you pay a security deposit.
You'd be lucky to get your deposit back even if the property was let out in a bad state by the agent.
The agent does not deserve the 1 star rating given, pity there is nothing below 1 star.....
I hear you Adam and I have read your response, find below my response to your response:
It is true my tenancy was suppose to end in 2019: when I signed my 1st contract I insisted on a Breakout clause, which you took out in subsequent contracts without my say so. You informed me of other changes to my contract prior to sending out the contract but not of the breakout clause. I only found you’ve taken this out when I decided I wanted to leave.
Yes true the property was brand new when I moved in , it was all covered in dust from all the internal fittings works carried out and the toilet was not even cleaned. I sent pictures together with list of all the snags when I took possession but nothing was done about it.
It is very untrue of you saying the property was not cleaned, I paid for a professionally cleaner to to do the cleaning, but your company was not happy with the cleaning as you insisted I use the cleaning company recommended by Elwell Taylor to do the work. The said cleaning company was charging a arm and a leg and even the audacity to tell me I have to use them if I don’t want to be charged twice, I decided to use another cleaning company.
I was subsequently charged double to get your cleaner back in to the property to do the cleaning- I have insisted on the after-photos be sent.
About the tenant deposit, your company only took out an insurance on tenant’s deposits hence your reluctance in releasing the full tenant’s deposit- I shall be challenging the unfair charges if I don’t get the after photos requested.

I have been using Elwell Taylor since 2012 and from day 1 have found them to be an outstanding letting agent. I have a number of properties around the UK and Helen Hancy heading up the letting team are head and shoulders above the other agents I use. Helen and her team go the extra mile to ensure I have no stress in the letting of the property, as an example if their is a leak in the property instead of writing and saying "there's a leak" Helen will email me and say " there's a leak - so I have spoken to x number of contractors who think it might be A B or C and will cost x" she always gets the best quote and treats your property like she would her own home, indeed I trust them so much as to ask her to go ahead with what she thinks best and just give me an update, leaving me to concentrate on other things. I would, and have thoroughly recommend Helen and Elwell Taylor to look after your property for you. They are first class operators.

Enquired about a flat on the morning of 29/11/16 and was put through to a very bitter sounding condescending lady who made it very clear they are not interested in helping to house two Student Nurses. Very unpleasant to have been spoken to with such disrespect. We will not be using this company in the future and suggest you avoid them too.
