WARNING ?? Don’t trust or waste your time with this association because they are in cahoots with building firms and not for the customer. The Federation Of Master Builders (FMB) failed to help when we escalated an issue we had with building firm Compact Project Ltd run by Grzegorz Teofil Grzadka (aka Greg with operations based at 39 Marnham Crescent, UB6 9SW, Greenford) who failed to complete our home renovations. We detailed a comprehensive account with key dates outlining our concerns, spent time with them putting our case forward - to be shocked by their bare minimum response. Basically they ticked the box to hear our account and replied with a bog-standard, lengthy, weak email of business speak saying they’d keep an eye on Compact Project Ltd who left us high and dry. FMB took no action whatsoever. It’s obvious they appreciate being funded by rookie builders like Greg than act appropriately to resolve customer disputes. Therefore, they do not vet / assess building firms based on any reputable criteria. Any rookie building firm can purchase membership to this flawed association and stick the badge of (dis)honour on their website, van or email signature.... Read more

Absolute shameless company. Had a builder walk out with unfinished work. 35k out of pocket. Reached out to the FMB and went through 2 extra months of conciliation only to be handed an agreement to sign saying we lose all right over our original contract. Do not use their mediation process whatever you do. It is rigged toward the builder and you will lose some of your legal rights. Complained that the builder was unsafe and had a boiler flue pointing into our house. The FMB did not care. We were also promised a 10 year FMB Warranty by the builder which never surfaced. Again the FMB did not care. Complete waste of time.... Read more

Zero ratings don't believe a word they say. I complained about Builders sub-standard work, not done to european or british despite reminders and calls they sat on my claim for over a year. FMB said due to multi-claims and change-over of staff they could'nt handle the overload. With no-advice on proceedures. During complaint builder took me to court which I was unaware of for last invoice payment. FMB informed that could no longer handle my claim as in legal. Apparently their unvetted Builders are protected by FMB. Who is the higher body to complain to as FMB appear to be above the law.?... Read more

DO NOT TRUST I used FMB to source a builder for a large scale refurbishment on our home. We used a JCT contract along with a quantity surveyor. The job was not completed in line with contract (poor workmanship) & the builder didn't follow specifications. Most importantly the builder issued us with an electrical certificate post completion. On moving into our home i suffered an electric shock in the shower. We called out an independent electrical company to conduct a test who concluded 17 observations, 3 of which were given the classification code C1 (danger present), 6 were classed as C2 (potentially dangerous), 6 were classed as C3 (Improvement recommended) and 2 were classed as F1 (further investigation without delay). The builder was called Memo's Homes Ltd & are still listed on the FMB website as a member despite me submitting a complaint to FMB back in October 2018. In my complaint i evidenced how their member had failed to meet the 6 areas of their code of conduct. To date the only response i have received from FMB is that they cannot comment on their investigations. They cannot plausibly suggest that this isn't cause for this builder to be struck off, particularly given the fact that Memos Homes issued me with an electrical certificate that was falsified. Clearly the membership fee these builders pay to FMB is far more important than consumer safety. The website & their service is nothing but a sham. Is FMB waiting for a fatality to be caused by this member builder ? FMB's conduct toward such a serious complaint is disgusting. This website & organsiation should be shut down.... Read more

There have been many improvements in recent years which is why I would recommend the Federation to any quality SME builder. Membership of an industry trade body should be one of the things that customers consider when choosing a builder, together with personnel recommendations, seeing completed & in progress work and speaking to recent customers.... The company is a shambles, they do not “vet” their builders, they certainly never carry out any inspections to check quality of work. What this is exactly is a money spinning exercise, they take a lot of money for the “privilege” of companies being able to use their logo and that’s basically where it all ends. You are better off finding a builder to use based on real life reviews, testimonials and word of mouth than trusting this lot, they will do absolutely nothing for you. A company can be 1 day old and become a part of this lot, what exactly does that tell you. A complete waste of money and time.... Read more

The FMB states that it 'finds vetted, inspected members near you'. Well my experience was anything but. Please see my google review of Robin Services in Ruislip. My complaint to the FMB was made in October 2017. This was about the shoddy work of the building firm. In the same FMB complaints template I asked the FMB, what regular checks do they carry out to ensure that builders carrying their logo are still operating within the standards they set out i.e. how do the FMB regularly review quality control is maintained?. The FMB has refused to provide a response to this particular question, which I put to them by email on 4 October 2017, 16 October 2017(Compliant template) and also my email of 05 March 2018. One of their staff wrote to me on 06 March 2018 stating that I should expect a 'detailed response, week commencing 12 March 2018'. I have had no response to date. Anyway, rewind...So the FMB assign any complaints to a company called CEDR, an apparent expert in Dispute resolution. So I made the formal complaint on 04 October 2017. The FMB assigned the case to CEDR and I didn't hear from the CEDR conciliator until 21 January 2018, so over 3 months from when I first made the complaint. I had a lengthy telephone conversation with the conciliator 3 days later on 24 January 2018. The conciliator stated he was having no luck contacting the builder. I contacted the conciliator on 13 February 2018 for an update and he said that he had no luck trying to contact the builder, leaving numerous phone messages and emails. Anyway, the conciliator said he would still send a recommendation in the absence of a response. The recommendation basically did not hold the builder accountable in any way and this coming after the conciliator refused to accept any photos from me to show where the contentious issues were - nor even the offer of a site visit.I should add that the conciliator in our phone call of 23 January 2018 was more or less trying to encourage me to let the matter rest as he has seen worse disputes!! I replied 'no' as I had paid very good hard earned money for this job and poor workmanship prevailed. Anyway, on 16 February the CEDR team contacted me stating that as both parties had not reached an agreement, the conciliator had prepared a proposal for both parties - which I refused to sign or agree to as the builder had not engaged in the conciliation process except to sign the proposal which was in their favour. The builder has still not stated why they refused to reply to the numerous emails and phone messages left by the conciliator. Anyway, I explained the reasons in full to the CEDR in an email dated 01 March 2018 as to why I wouldn't sign the agreement based on the Conciliator's decision to refuse to accept photos of the issues from me and also the builders refusal to directly contact the conciliator. CEDR, emailed me on 02 March 2018 stated that the Conciliation was over and that I should revert back to the FMB. I then contacted the FMB on 05 March 2018 requesting a response to as to what checks they, the FMB, carry out on their builders to see they are operating within their standard. Furthermore, how do the FMB regularly review quality control to ensure builders adhere to their standards. I have had no response from the FMB on this despite their assurances by email on 06 March 2018 that they would respond to me week beginning 12 March 2018. The FMB has shown themselves to be a totally incompetent organisation by not only refusing to respond to my serious complaint of a builder who abused my property, stole from it, slept in it and couldn't correct pure workmanship. The FMB had the choice to investigate my complaint in house but didn't. Their choice of CEDR is questionable given the delays, refusal to accept my photos and make a proposal in absence of builder engagement. A governing body, FMB,must be worthy of probing, accountability and transparency. It is deeply worrying that the FMB cannot respond to a basic query about the safeguards they have in place to ensure their supposed vetted builders don't mistreat customers.... Read more

Dont bother with this organisation there are totally in favour of the member and not the consumer. The only resolution they have to bad workmanship is to allow the builder to come back to rectify it. I raised a complaint for cash compensation after the builder came back but still failed to put things right. However my complaint was still rejected, they mentioned that they wont take the fact that I allowed them to come back into consideration, and so I have to allow them to come back again. I wanted cash compensation as Im not going to have them come back for a third time, they said no the only solution is for them to come back and fix it. Seriously? for a third time? They will create more damage! The company in question was Oakleafe Property Services Ltd part of the Oakleafe group.... Read more

Had a very bad experience with an unscrupulous and greedy builder belonging to the FMB. The FMB organised mediation to resolve the issues. However the mediation was in reality an advocate for the builder. The mediator was belittling all my issues with the defective work and trying to convince me that I was wrong. She also put considerable pressure on me to pay the builder, not only for the defective work but also for work not done because the builder had left the site without finishing. The mediator tried to make me pay a further amount in excess of £8.000, none of which is due. She “cautioned” me, this is exactly the word she used, not to make any demands on the builder as he is “already irritated” and would come after me. I would have to swallow my loss for peace of mind she said. I was extremely surprised to hear all this but also to hear the builder’s dubious practices and financial arrangements justified. The FMB allow their members to post their own positive reviews on their site and give the public the impression that there is some guarantee in employing one of their members. In my experience this could not be further from the truth.... Read more

I reported to FMB a contractor who claimed to be member of this organisation and who was advertising himself through its website. After paying him over £90k for shoddy work, he left. FMB was approached only to be informed the member left in 2015. When I reported the contractor was continuing to use the FMB logo, they said they have approached Trading Standards and that's all they could do. I have complained that the contractor should be listed as a not member of the federation as this was being done fraudulently. Until this day (2 months ago) I haven' receive any response from FMB. Completely useless and don't really care for the public. They don't or couldn't guarantee the quality of their contractors' work as I have found out recently by some of its members.... Read more
