Absolutely horrible experience which to be honest I didn’t expect from such a brand as Chestertons!!! We had 3 flats rent it through them and for all of them with any exception half of our security deposit was retained against the law and totally unjustified!!! We paid huge amount of rent for some 1 bed which basically were some converted studio without any support when have issue in the apartments. Therefore we give the flats back with notice because of this and without any reason in all properties half of our security deposit was held so pleas make sure you will not end up in the same position as looks like this is like a habit from what we observe.... By far the worst customer service that I’ve ever come across. We have lived in the property for almost 2 weeks now and still have not received the correct keys. They gave us one of keys and told us we had to get more cut because we moved in late! What is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard! After complaining there eventually gave us another set but then the lobby key did not work! I was informed by the landlord that she had told them that they had to get the lobby key done by a specialist key cutter, they obviously didn’t listen to a word of that. We currently still do not have keys when I messaged them about it, I was told I had to return the keys because they were a lot of money! You can understand why it’s the worst customer service I have ever come across. They did not apologise for giving us the wrong set of keys they have not said that they are going to get more cut even though it is in the contract. The complete absurdity of this whole situation irritates the hell out of me! That I can’t even get into the property that I’m paying for. But there is more! When we moved into the property of the hot water wasn’t working! It is still not working we have to get a new boiler! They said they checked it a couple days before we move in but the way the company is managed I very much doubt they did. We also have problems with the furniture that is unusable! The table in the living room is completely wonky the chairs scrape against the wooden floor, so at the minute I’m eating my dinner on the sofa. Until my order comes through on Amazon because God knows they are not going to get any new ones. Our double bed in our room has got wheels so every time we get on it I feel like I’m dancing on ice! The shower head is completely screwed! The doors to balcony do not open! I could probably go on for days! Yeah so a long story short you are probably best off not using this company. Save yourself the stress and knew someone else I wish I did.... Read more

My experience with Dexters Bloomsbury in searching for a flat in central London was excellent. Joe Donaghy was friendly, professional and dedicated and helped me find an ideal flat (studio) with short notice, quickly responding to any and all queries that I had, and kept me updated throughout the entire process. The transition was smooth and efficient and I would happily recommend Joe to anyone flat hunting, and I would happily use his services again.... Read more

1. When moving in they forgot to do inventory check 2. They came in after moving in to do an inventory check and left a massive stain on the carpet. 3. They never cleaned the place and asked the landlord to still pay the fees for cleaning. Never disclosed that the neighbours were noisy in downstairs restaurant. They finish business at 11:30 but remained in the premises until 4:30 am play cards and drinking alcohol. This said restaurant owner physically assaulted me and when I approached the letting agents to end the contract citing safety concerns, showed no empathy towards me and insisted that it was a personal matter and tehy were not responsible for it. I've had an absolutely horrible time dealing with them and would never ever deal with them again!... Read more

The most incompetent agency I have ever had the displeasure of coming across. We found a property we were very interested in on Rightmove and are buyers without a chain so were seeking a quick transaction. The sales agent, Mr Kevin Pearcey was always unavailable. They told me he was out at viewings and my husband that he was off sick working from home and apparently in the whole agency, the was the only person who could arrange viewings. He did not return calls or answer his mobile and after 4 days of trying we gave up. He eventually emailed to say he would arrange a viewing and get back to us to confirm the time and never did. Their agency is managing the tenancy and I wonder if their monthly management fee is perhaps more financially motivating to them than following instructions of the owner to try and market the sale of the property, and getting a one off commission? Either way, I don't think the owner would have been too pleased and so do not recommend using them if you are trying to sell your property as they have now lost a potential buyer.... Read more

I have to say that we are incredibly happy about our recent experience of working with Jack & Fergus. They went out of their way to organise viewings, and were impressively fast and professional with securing our property. They clearly had a very good relationship with their client, and added real value in the discussions. A big contrast to our recent experiences with other agencies. Thanks both !... Read more

David Astburys Ltd - London

My partner and I started our search hoping to find somewhere quickly and efficiently, most viewings and agencies were slow, unhelpful and in general didn't seem to want to find tenants for their landlords property. Scott however impressed us to no end as from viewing stage all the way through to tenancy agreement he has been massively helpful and highly professional, I could not recommend his expertise enough. I also have to give a shout out to Harriet who has been really efficient and helpful throughout the process, thanks to all!... Read more

We rented a property from David Astburys for 8 months and got out as quickly as we could. They are an absolute joke of a letting agency - incompetent at best and deceptive at worst. They were absolutely efficient up until the point where we handed over the deposit and signed the tenancy agreement - after which everything went downhill swiftly. On the morning of our move-in day, we received a call from David Astburys letting us know that they had just realised the property had not been professionally cleaned, and asking us whether we would like to have them arrange to have it cleaned before we move in (in the middle of a global pandemic and a national lockdown, how is that even a question?). This was only a few hours before we were due to pick our keys up and gain access to the property. We ended up having to wait outside the property with all of our belongings for 7 hours while waiting for the cleaners to clean the place. To put things into perspective, we were meant to gain access to the property at 11am, and ended up only gaining access at 10pm when the cleaners left. For the record, the property was in absolutely filthy condition before the cleaners came so it is obvious that David Astburys neglected to do the simple task of checking the condition of the flat before our move-in date. Moreover, the property still had black mould and general cleanliness issues after the cleaners left - a problem that was raised with David Astburys for which we received no apology, remediation, or even acknowledgement of the cleanliness issue. This was the first red flag. We also were not allowed to view the property prior to move-in, which we were told was due to lockdown restrictions - fair enough. In lieu of being able to view the property in person, we asked for the property square footage, which we were told (in writing) was 72 square metres. When we moved into the flat, it was clear that the property was substantially smaller than this, and this was confirmed several weeks later when the property was measured for EPC renewal. The actual size of the flat, as documented in the renewed EPC, was 53 square metres. This equates to the property being advertised as 35% larger than its actual size. Again, we raised this with David Astburys and requested a rent reduction as the advertised size of the property was a major factor that we took into account when deciding how much to offer for the flat. However, David Astburys refused to take any accountability for this, stating that this was the measurement listed on the old EPC. We contacted Citizens Advice and were advised that this is an unfair trading practice, and we were well within our rights to pursue legal action against David Astburys. However, we decided that it was not worth the stress and effort and simply resolved to move out as quickly as possible. After we handed in our notice, David Astburys persisted to ask us to let people into our flat for viewings despite us letting them know that we were not comfortable given the Covid-19 risk (this was in December, when the NHS was being overwhelmed by the number of Covid cases). Also, remember that they used Covid-19 as an excuse to not let us view our flat (which was vacant) in person? Massive double standard. Predictably, David Astburys proposing deductions for cleaning after we moved out despite us having cleaned the flat to a markedly higher standard than what was given to us. We did not accept the deductions and let the Tenancy Deposit Scheme adjudicate the case. David Astburys must have realised that they have no leg to stand on here as they did not submit any evidence to TDS to support their proposed deductions, and we have now been awarded our full deposit back. David Astburys claims to be be better than your average (bad) letting agent, but in our experience they fit the stereotype to a T.... Read more
