Our business has a wood burning pizza oven which emits smoke through a vertical chimney and gas burners which emit steam and cooking vapours up into a commercial canopy and through a horizontal flue which emits onto the street. There were reports from the first floor business that they could smell food odours. We therefore called Almac who visited our premises twice to do a survey. Their survey concluded we needed a new fan motor which they installed at a cost of close to two thousand pounds. It made no difference at all to the odours emitting to the first floor. Our landlord became involved and called them to do a further survey. They concluded that both flues (for pizza oven and canopy) were going up the chimney and that for the cost of another two thousand pounds they could put it right! Needless to say, we called in a further (and this time recommended company) who carried out a site survey (including smoke bombs etc) and who confirmed that the canopy flue was separate from the pizza oven flue but that the horizontal flue for the canopy has two leaks in it and that the motor fitted by Almac is too small and not fit for purpose! What a waste of money and time as we are now forced to fork out another couple of thousand to put this right. Almac obviously don't know what they are talking about or, if they do, they obviously do not work in the best interest of their clients. We feel totally duped and are considering suing.... Read more
