When I was looking for a colourist to grade my short film ‘IF IT WERE DONE’ my good friend Jim Page (an excellent and award winning editor) recommended Rebecca Goodeve and the team at Author Colour, so I gave her a call. I wasn’t disappointed. Rebecca is very friendly and approachable and helped me through the process to get my film looking just the way I wanted it to look. Author Colour has fantastic facilities in their dedicated grading suite and Rebecca was happy to take the time to show me different options and experiment. She also helped me source last minute vfx work from the Author Colour team, to remove a reflection which we had previously missed on the film, at very short notice. IF IT WERE DONE was recently accepted into the prestigious Oscar accredited LA Shorts International Film Festival, and I feel sure that the excellent colour grade was no small contributing factor. Because of Covid I wasn't able to sit in on the colour grading and she created a very effective remote workflow which meant that I could feed back on the grade and she could make tweaks as appropriate.... This week Rebecca graded our short sport documentary 'Inside the life of Gabriel Paulista' the final product was really amazing, I left the studio feeling extremely satisfied. Rebecca's communication was very fast from the beginning and made sure she gave all the info and details needed before coming to the studio. In the studio Rebecca was very practical, she had amazing eye for detail and made sure the color grading would match exactly what the documentary needed, she was very efficient and professional and I will for sure recommend her as a colorist. Rebecca is a gifted colourist; she has a painterly eye, and instinctively works on an emotive level with colour. She brings more than just her technical skills to the suite, she is also attuned to the symbolic power of colour in each scene, and the film as a whole. We built up a wonderful working relationship very quickly. She was patient, full of ideas, and was willing to try as many tests as necessary to ensure we achieved a cohesive aesthetic for the film that also fulfilled my vision.
