Lovely place to walk around. The gardens were fantastic, especially with all the Christmas bits to see. Would have been better to see it lit up but we attended during the day. The deer park was lovely to walk around too.... Read more

Fabulous place to take children and get out with the pram. The paths are well surfaced and suitable for wheels. The deer roam free around the park and there are plenty of them to see. The gardens are really lovely if you don't mind paying a little extra and there are plenty of benches to rest or feed your little one. Toilets are nice and the baby changing facility is excellent. There is a shop and a cafe too and a huge car park. Mid week is best to visit, as school holidays and weekends are very busy.... Read more

Popped in here whilst travelling for lunch and a walk, rather than the motorway services. Excellent facilities, with good options typical of National Trust places. Great for a family day out. When paying for parking you get access to a lovely flower garden where you can have a picnic, they also plant fruit and vegetables in the rose garden section so great for showing your kids what the food, they eat looks like and where it comes from. Loads of space for kids to run around, watch dear and feed the ducks. They have a cafe and clean toilets. Paths are suitable for buggies and various paths provide shade in hot weather conditions.... Lovely walk around the winter garden, so many beautiful plants and trees just coming into bud. The deer park too is great for a walk and to experience the wildlife. More people there than I expected considering the present restrictions but they soon disperse once into the park land as well as the one way system in the gardens. Had a good time... something new to see throughout the year.... Read more

Dunham is very local to me and one of my favourite places. It has everything I need. A lovely walk, it's a deer park, it has a great cafe and a shop with all sorts of lovely things. There's even a little outside area selling a nice selection of plants. If you are not a member, the car parks are a little pricey but it's well worth the money. Highly recommended.... Read more

Great place, we went when they had the light being turned on at Christmas. They had a nice wide path all the way around their complex allowing for an enjoyable but safe walk around. The little shops or huts selling food has perspex screens protecting the employees and the customers which was good. Would go again as the lights were amazing. Children would love it. There are plenty of parking spaces so no need to worry about where you leave the car. Toilets were nice for a national trust place. Go and see for yourself and have fun! 5/5... Read more

Fabulous family day out! We enjoyed the grounds, the servants quarters and the Orangery. Unfortunately we weren't able to visit the house due to ongoing restorations which is the reason for the 4 star and not 5 star review. The day was overcast and chilly but thanks to very engaging and informative staff the weather went unnoticed. We didn't experience the restaurants because we took a picnic for which there is ample space to enjoy. The icing on the cake was the story telling by Percy the Park Keeper. (It was World Book Week after all). The gift shop was typically priced for National Trust goodies but as it's a larger (than we have come across) shop there was a wider variety of things to choose from. The grounds are very well looked after and access is suitable for all abilities even pushchairs and bicycles. Parking is also in good condition, with plenty of space available. We would definitely recommend a visit here.... Read more

One of my favourite national trust places. Large car park (quite expensive if you're not a member ~£6-7), nice visitors center with cafe shop and loos. Excellent house with very knowledgeable volunteers. Used to visit when I was a child and it hasn't changed much! However there is a new visitors centre and the cafe allows you to pick your jam for the cream tea! I wish all national trust did. Well worth wandering the parkland to see the deer, however PLEASE don't get too near to them, saw numerous people getting very close and this is not good for the deer (or you if they decide they don't like you there). Love Dunham Massey. It's just kinda perfect for what it is. Doesn't try to add unnecessary stuff. It's a lovely house with a few guided tours that are worth going on to see what the old house is like and how it worked back in the day. It's a beautiful garden to take the family and kids to, full of free roaming deer who are easy to see during your walk around the fields. I've been many times, and the ice cream shop and cafe are always nice to stop off at before or after your walk, the ice cream is worth a second mention as it's delicious. A nice National Trust site! Ample parking space, although I suspect it needs it on weekends and school holidays! There is an entrance fee to pay on entering the area; this is charged based on vehicle type so not on quantity of people. The main mansion and gardens required further fees to be paid so my review only covers the 'public' areas; the park, the gift store, the cafeteria etc. The park is really nice with long avenues and vistas; definitely worth a visit throughout the year to experience the changing seasons and weather. The whole site is pet friendly but obviously bring the necessary items to clean up after your animal companion. There is a cafeteria near the main visitor reception, and an ice cream shop and restaurant near the stables. There are also toilets in the main reception as well as stables area. This is also a deer park so pets need to be on a leash. The deers are free roaming and you should come across a few. Be mindful that they are wild and not to be approached or petted. Also, there are areas in the park that are off limits as they are cordoned off as sanctuaries for the deer; there's no physical barrier but there are signs indicating as such. There are clear walking areas and most folks would not wander off into the undergrowth as they are quite thick. All in all, a great place for families to visit.... Read more

The National Trust take a lot of stick, but without them most of the brilliant spaces in the UK would be overrun with developers or private money making companies. Large gardens and deer park for all the family to enjoy with plenty of paths for a walk. You need to get a ticket from the visitor centre to get into the house even if you are a N.T. member ( but it's free) and the house is full of volunteers who happily give you further information about its history and the people who lived there. Plenty of good quality facilities and the ice cream is delicious, even worth waiting for on a hot day and a rather long queue. Close to Manchester it means it's not a place for solitude. My Daughter loves it here and no matter how often we go I am always captivated by the deer. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful even when it is busy and wonderfully maintained, thia is one of the best national trust locations. Really great value for money too. If you decide not to go in the house then all you pay for is the parking. ... Read more

A beautiful day out and much more than just a deer park. We had a picnic in the garden and our children loved the carnival themed activities. Yummy snugburys ice cream available too. Next time we will bring bikes as there's lots of room in the deer park to cycle on good paths and a convenient bike parking area at the entrance to the gardens.... Read more

Lovely day out! £6 to park and that gets you to the deer viewing park which is huge and the surrounding areas new the welcome centre. It's extra to go into the house and main garden but there is enough to do without doing that anyways. Also if you're a National Trust member it's all free. ... Read more

A great place for a walk with the family. They have resisted the urge to set up kids soft play areas and instead encourage children to play among fallen trees aranged for the purpose. Everything is natural and the beauty inspires peace. The facilities are good and well maintained. It costs £6 to park and the deer park is free. The house and gardens costs more but are not required to have a great day out. ... Read more

Great for a family day out. Especially if you are a national trust member. Lots of public access park for picnics, deer spotting, ball games, dog walking and more. House is fascinating with many rooms open and furnished. Formal gardens are nice all year round and good for kids to explore but no dogs. 2 nice cafes and an ice cream stall although queues for ice cream can be long in good weather. Even when busy there is parking and space for you in the grounds. Highly recommended, especially on a sunny day.... Read more
