I've been visiting the Green Man for the past 3 years as our office is around the corner, but the place has gone drastically downhill in recent months. The food used to be impressive, but is now atrocious; I don't think our portion sizes could have been any smaller and after bringing our issue to the attention of the bar staff we were just palmed off, they couldn't have cared any less. For circa £13 you're better off walking down the road to McDonalds, and there's much cheaper pints in the area too. PubLove? Get real.... Read more

awful awful service and value came for lunch ordered a chicken burger that had the smallest piece of chicken, that i can not believe they justified calling it a burger. this was £11 for a nugget in a bun and a few chips. When addressing with the staff the bar woman told me its not her problem and take it up with the kitchen. when i spoke to the kitchen they were aggressive and simply said that's what the chef made and it wasn't their fault. At no point did anyone actually try solving the issue and when i told them i will be writing a bad review the bar woman smiled and said i dont blame you at all. Wow. This is by far the best hostel experience in London, or anywhere, as far as I have experienced. I arrived at 1:30am to a beautiful locked pub with a lovely young man to open the door and check me in, offering me chocolates and quenching my thirst (after three flights) with mint and pomegranate seed infused drinking water. The bar has 24-hour drink service for guests, which seemed like something from another time altogether. Down duvet was delightfully fresh and perfectly warming, the other 3 in the mixed 6-bed room were quiet and of high caliber. When I checked out at 6 am, the expresso was good and the service again very warm. Wow, guys! Truly amazing. Im looking forward to my next stay in a few weeks.... Read more

I had an absolutely terrible experience here. I had 2 sips of a pint and knew it tasted weird (almost chemical-like) so I took it back and they poured a new one. The second pint was fine and I thought nothing more. However, about 2-3 hours later when I was walking home, I had extremely sharp stomach pain, felt light-headed, weak and I was sweating profusely. I felt like I was on the verge of collapse and could hardly walk up the hill. I got home and I was up all night with this illness. I amicably emailed the management to explain what happened and to ask them to investigate, which they said they would. However, 6 weeks later I have had no response. Please be careful when visiting this pub and check your drinks before consuming.... Read more

Amazing 24/7 pub, amazing staff doing their best working on the clock. Very strategic place, right next to tube station to go around London City and Paddington Station just walking distance. Plenty of options for for people to have seats. They also have place to stay, hostel type in amazing condition and facilities like sharing shower (amazing shower just sayin), and toilet, comes with clean bed linen. I just love it. Is really close to my house. Food is amazing with a good price and staff is really friendly. My girlfriend always ask to go there when possible. It just close too early!! The food here is great as far as what we ordered. Slow cooked pork special. Burger was even better than some I've had back in the U.S. "Brunch" served from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sometimes it can be a bit noisy as it is a pub. I would recommend this eatery.... Read more

I can't comment on the one star reviews that seem to relate to the hostel above the pub, accept to say that the pub is clearly signed "The Green Man" outside, whereas I'm guessing "Publove" relates to the hostel, so really these two enterprises should be separate. Naming problems aside, the pub is actually quite nice, and conveniently located next to the station - however £6 for a pint seems a bit too expensive. Decoration is traditional pub style, with decent music. I ordered a plate of fries with my beer, and expected to get 3-4 bits of potato in a small glass, as seems to the custom when ordering fries in a pub these days, but was pleasantly surprised to be given a portion that was almost chip shop sized, although nothing to write home about.... Small, but comfortable rooms. They can get a bit hot in summer, and the plastic covered mattresses don’t help the heat. Great pillows. Bathrooms are not very clean, but that’s ok, there’s lots of people using them. Staff are nice. Rooms are really quiet considering you are staying on top of a busy pub. Don’t bother ordering breakfast here, the kitchen doesn’t open until 9, and even then they didn’t open until 9:15 which meant I had less time to explore. But still, good breakfast. I wasn’t going to not eat a breakfast I had already paid for. Overall, a good stay.... Read more

I got robbed there from inside my room, inside the locker, that was closed and locked. To get there this person needed the code to the main door and the code to the room door. In the same time frame, 8 people got robbed. Most of them computers, credit cards and phones. The people from the hostel gave us one beer to compensate for a lot of money stolen from all of us. They said they weren't responsible for that happening, because of the terms and conditions that we signed when we did the reservation. That is false. Those terms and conditions are of no use when the main door that's supposed to be locked is open during the day. The person who did this got access to four different rooms, and they said they weren't responsible for anything. So if you're thinking of staying here, just don't. When something like this happens you'll be completely by yourself trying to figure out what to do.... Read more

This place is the worst hostel I've stayed in 5 months of travelling. Total trash, the room was incredibly dirty near the beside walls, you're looking at triple bunk beds, no common area, no kitchen, just a pub downstairs. Also my door lock only worked 50% of the time, my locker couldn't fit my laptop and the downstairs baggage area wasn't locked. Additionally I got locked out of my room by a poorly written code and needed to go down into the pub in a towel to get into my room. I'm in no way a fancy traveller and I understand £20 in London won't go far but my word this place couldn't find 5 stars in the Milky Way for mine.... Read more

Dormetary accommodation, mixed ages and mixed as well as single sex rooms. Drink is good and adventurous, but food, well no! Not suitable for disabled, steep windy stairs up 2 floors to rooms. Before I got in it looked a friendly pub. Once I entered madness began. Although the pub was almost empty there was a group of drunk guys screaming and dancing making too much mess and disturbing everyone. The staff didn’t care and said nothing to them and because of that they were unfriendly with the rest of the clients. The girl that took my order was everything but nice, she was extremely rude, her English was very poor and she didn’t had any patient. I struggled a lot to understand her... I told her that she didn’t had to speak with those manners, all she said was: “ if want to eat you can stay if not you can leave cause the kitchen is about to close” ( the kitchen only closes by 22:00 and I ordered by 21:30...). The food was a disaster on a plate. I ordered a burger and it came burned, the same way than the fries. This place must be extremely desperate, for hiring staff with total lack of skills, professionalism and politeness. They just don’t care. It’s a place to forget that exists. Hostel - everything was clean and staff were very nice. Also, good number of toilets/washrooms so there is no waiting for anything. The room was a bit too small for 6 people, and if anybody moves the beds were super noisy. Room arrangement could be better too. Bar - burgers are very good and especially the cheese inside. If you're looking for a clean place to sleep and are interested in London drinks and pub culture, this is a good place to start out. However, clean ends when you enter the washing rooms and toilets (hairs everywhere and toilets that look like Armageddon). Plus: the unisex washing room with 3 shower cabinets does not have a door. You should also not be afraid of heights because you might get the top of a three stories bunkbed. We didn't go for the brunch. The veggie burger with breaded goat cheese was awesome. The staff is very friendly. If you're looking for hostel atmosphere and want to connect with other travellers this is not the right place. There's no common area and our room mates were quiet like fish. Not even a simple hello or goodbye. The luggage room is catastrophic. It's not locked so basically anyone can sneak down there and just take stuff which unfortunately happened to us. My boyfriend's backpack was nicked on our last day (I hope karma kicks in and an angry badger mauls that gutless thief right in the privates)! Staff seems not that very helpful here. They say they have surveillance but only the manager knows how to operate it. We left them a paper with our contact information and sent two mails already. No reaction. Could at least tell us they didn't find it and couldn't identify anyone. It's as good as it gets for the price you pay especially if you're staying just a few nights but I wouldn't go there again.... Came in here for food and drinks. One bar maid came across as very rude in terms of service but the other was the exact opposite i.e. friendly. The beer selection was great but this place focusses on burgers only. I guess this is due to the size of the kitchen. The burger was nice but the chips werent great. The hostel reception desk is the bar. We had to wait 15-20 mins, while they alternated taking food orders and pouring beers with helping us check-in... Pros: Comfortable mattress 10% discount on food/beer Free tap water Cons: No towel. :( 5£ for a beer Cramped quarters--beds stacked 3 high!!! With first one flat on ground (see below) with no power outlets near the bed No complimentary coffee or TEA!!! :( The free breakfast (you find out only when you arrive) starts at 6:30 AM and ends abruptly at 8:30, before most people here have even thought about waking up... As someone mentioned before, you pay cheap, you get cheap. The hostel was OK, for the price. They serve free breakfast, they are close to the center (2stations from Marble Arch) and the staff was friendly and helpful. However the floor of the shared room was filthy, the room stank like a gym, it was overcrowded and once or twice the showers had only boiling hot water. The wifi also didnt work properly (neither on my phone, nor my GFs) If you are young, dont care about crowded rooms and noise, it is OK. I might be too old for hostels though...... Read more

A big downside to staying at Publove, is how hot the rooms are. Don’t underestimate the reviews, because it’s like a sauna in there. You can open windows and doors as much as you like, but there is no air from the outside reaching the inside. The staff themselves agreed that the temperature of the rooms is ridiculous. One member of staff was a little bit rude upon check in, very passive and just wanted us to leave, but everyone else was incredibly kind and accommodating. Apart from that, the rooms weren’t as small as you’d think. If you’re only using the hostel to sleep, it’s fine. However, as with any hostel, we had people coming in and out until 4-5am, and considering we hadn’t slept at all in 48 hours plus the heat in the room making it very difficult to sleep, it was a big problem. The showers were clean, the toilets could have been better, but you get what you pay for and it wasn’t unbearable. It’s located right next to Edgware Road station that uses the Bakerloo line and takes you straight to Oxford or Piccadilly, where you can transfer to other lines. There’s no noise from the pub downstairs travelling to the rooms at any time, which was a plus. The sheets were a little dirty, and there was plenty of dust behind the beds. I wouldn’t stay here again, personally, because the heat is unbearable. Perhaps in the colder months it would be more tolerable but there’s just no way to survive more than three nights in the summer.... Read more

It's a great place if you're looking for a few days of cheap stay. The toilets should be cleaned more often and the lockers should have been better, otherwise the place is good. I just tried the coffee in the restaurant on the ground floor and that was pretty good.... Read more

The pub is great, with a good selection of beers. I had a farmyard hamburger fo dinner and I can say that is among the best I've ever eaten, they have a very good kitchen. The breakfast is also amazing, with wild mushrooms. The hostel is okay, the bed is comfortable. I would only complain for the noise in the rooms, the windows have to remain opened because of the heat in summer so all the noise from the street makes it a bit difficult to sleep. Overall, very good for a night or two, bring earplugs and enjoy the pub!... Read more
