Tortoise are a different breed of Estate Agent. I met Mike Matthews many years ago when I rented a property out, it was obvious from the outset that he was switched on, the way he approached the marketing of my house was head and shoulders above the agent I had used previously. He actually found a lovely couple that rented until I was ready to sell and he made the whole management process completely painless for me. Many years later, we decided to sell our current house. I had tried a number of agents previously, and in fairness, I did actually meet a couple of good agents that appeared to try their best, however, there was always something that disappointed me, be it the photos taken or descriptions written riddled with errors etc. I later learned that Tortoise had expanded and Mike now had a team for both lettings and for sales. At first I was reticent, as in my mind, how could Tortoise be as successful as other agents as they work completely online, thus can’t capture the footfall from window adverts that the bigger chains can. Remembering Mike’s tenacity, I pushed this concern aside and decided to give them a chance. The whole process was a world away from what I’d experienced before. Tortoise quickly arranged a time to visit me, fitting in with my schedule. They spent almost 3 hours photographing everywhere and using their bespoke equipment to create a virtual tour (expertly captured by Don). I noticed Mike walking around making notes, actually taking the time to think about what he would write on our advert (as opposed to just copying from other adverts or pasting something generic). The advert went up a couple of days later and it looked amazing, the photos really captured the beauty of the home we were selling. Within one week, the team had arranged five viewings, all on the same day to ensure we were not inconvenienced by multiple visits on different days. A few days later we had two offers and a bidding war. Mike came to us with both of the buyers best and final offer and we made our decision (this was perhaps the worst part as both couples were really nice). Following this, Mike stayed in touch (as opposed to just brushing me off as soon as he had the sale) he always answers his phone or returns my call if he missed me. At the end of the whole process, we had a number of issues within our chain that resulted in exchange having to take place the same day as completion - neither my wife nor I were in a good place because of this, but Mike was probably the only person I could rely on, and somehow he remained positive and calm at all times. I really cannot say enough about the Tortoise team - whilst my next move will hopefully be some considerable time in the future, I will ensure that Mike and his team are my first and only phone call when I do eventually come to sell again.... Thank you to Chris and the team for all the hard work over the last 14 months. It had been such a turbulent time with loosing 2 houses and a buyer but Chris was the constant professional from the start to finish. The photos and the video from Tortoise were amazing. It was such a pleasure to deal with an agent that was honest and was always willing to help. It was nice never having to chase them up for updates as they were always on the ball. Mike and his team were recommended to us and I am so pleased we went with them, not only did they spend the time coming to talk everything over, whilst following the covid guidelines very well, they spent time giving us advice about the house we were purchasing and did their own research to help us, they were amazing, so helpful and patient. I cannot recommend this company enough. I have worked with Tortoise for many years, firstly in the capacity of a Landlord and most recently they sold my house. From a landlords perspective, I want an agent to put honest, reliable people in my property, make regular and thorough inspections, report faults and provide advice & access to quality tradesmen when I need them. For round about 9 years that's exactly the kind of service I got from Tortoise. I will also add my Tenants were also very complimentary about how they were treated by Tortoise. In short, they took the pain and worry out of being a landlord. Most recently Mike and his team sold my house which went on the market the week before Lockdown. Throughout the whole process they have been very thorough and professional and secured a sale price very close to the asking price which I was extremely happy with. Absolutely shocking. Made initial phone call / enquiry 10 days ago on Friday only to be told the following Monday nobody had details. Had to give my details n register again , 5 further calls and still no feedback, Finally got an email apologising of the mix up and booked a viewing to be then told at the viewing they had accepted another application for the house. Disgusting !!! Strongly recommend you STAY AWAY from this very poor company with limited capacity to provide for clients.... Read more

The team at Tortoise acted on our property sale last month, and from the initial marketing of the property right through to the consistent hard work in chasing solicitors, everybody was brilliant. 1) The initial valuation from Chris was done fairly and honestly, and he didn't try to overvalue the house just to gain our business. 2) The marketing photos were the right balance between making the house look appealing, without using camera tricks to present an unfair representation for potential viewers. 3) The valuation and viewings were all handled by Chris, which meant he had a thorough understanding of the house when showing people round. 4) The team were always pleasant and friendly to speak to, regardless of who I was dealing with. Outstanding Service! Easy to deal with and provided excellent communication throughout our tenancy. Any repairs managed well and as a tenant I felt incredibly lucky to have them as our landlord. We did have another landlord prior to this one as the previous owner sold the property but as the new owner changed the managing agent to Tortoise it’s been a breath of fresh air.
