Fantastic from start to finish... I was working overseas for a number of years and with the support of the dedicated team at Ashley Charles was able to ensure that my UK property was rented out and the tenants (and property) very well looked after. The property management service was super-professional, staying in regular communication and coming up with great solutions whenever a problem did present itself. I expect to be selling sometime in the next 12 months and as soon as I am ready to sell I know exactly who I will turn to to get the job done!

I should start this review with the disclaimer that I am currently in dispute with these people after having rented a 'furnished' flat from them last year.
I don't consider myself a bad tenant. I paid rent in full and on time, always had a glowing report regarding how clean and tidy the place was when they paid their check visits and even organised my own accommodation when the electric boiler caught fire and left the place uninhabitable for 3 weeks - effectively paying rent for an unusable property with absolute refusal of any compensation or even reduction in rent. Despite this, my main source of disappointment with them stems from how they treat the check in and out of the property and it's effects on the deposit they hold. Hopefully this review will go some way to providing 'prior knowledge' to anyone using them in the future if not an actual warning.
In summary:
The check in procedure is very cursory with hardly any pictures being taken and seems pretty relaxed.
The check out on the other hand is anything but, with approximately 100 pictures detailing most of the items that were in a fairly poor state of repair at the start of the tenancy.
Not surprisingly, I am now in dispute with them regarding the return of my deposit and the items they claim to have been damaged/not cleaned properly during my tenancy.
Reading some of the reviews on them, I suspect they represent landlords interests to a far greater degree than those of the tenants and pay scant regard to the spirit of the tenancy agreement.
The galling thing is of course, that they may actually be right in relation to the strict terms of the agreement as I didn't, at check in, count the number of old coat hangars left in the wardrobe, nor did I take endless photographs behind the various radiators or ventilation grilles or even document every scratch and scuff on each item of poorly maintained furniture in the place.
No, rather naively, I took on trust the word of the check in agent that wear and tear needn't be documented as it won't be brought up on the check out.
Consequently, if you are considering renting a property though this company then I suggest you follow these guidelines:
1. Don't.
- unless you absolutely have to, and in which case;
2. Do not take on trust anything they say - ensure it is in writing.
3. Film and document the entire state of the property when you move in and insist it is incorporated into the check in report.
4. Assume you have already lost your deposit when you hand it over. That way, anything you may get back after all the wrangling can only be considered a bonus !
For my part, I will only ever be following the advice of point 1 above if I ever come across them again.... Read more
