Had a bad experience by letting chancellors manage my house in Reading, Tennat which chancellors found not only damaged the house in just 1 year but also did not paid the rent for last 2 months, chancellors who were fully managing the house could not do much except for sending few reminder letters which Tennats binned and the chancellors raised there hands and asked me to solve it myself with Tennats on top of that forced me to pay the commission for the rent which I never received. Landlords need to be careful with chancellors on how they write the contract as they just want there money without any care about landlords, I raised the issue with chancellors directors who just passed the issue to another manager who just asked to pay. I would never recommend them to any one and would never work them again.

WORST COMPANY EVER!!!
I had the worst experience with Chancellors on oxford Road, Oxford. My partner and I approached them to rent a room, but their behavior was incredibly rude and unprofessional. The staff acted as though we couldn’t afford anything and treated us with zero respect. Their hospitality was appalling, and instead of helping, they were laughing at us and refused to listen to our queries. It was a completely unacceptable and humiliating experience. I would strongly advise against ever dealing with this company—terrible service and a team that lacks basic decency."

My preference was to sell my property however it is currently on rent via a Different agent
I emailed both divisions. Lettings sent through terms and had an offer after 1 day of viewings.
Sales team I have chased three times as they havnt even bothered sending terms! Needless to say I have now found another agent - guess they do not need the business!

My flat was on sale in March 2024 with another estate agent and one of Chancellors agents called me 2x days in a row in March and asked me if I wanted to rent it out instead of selling. I told him the first time that I was selling it because I needed the money for a deposit on a house.
He called again the next date, less than 24 hours later, and asked the same thing.
Now, over the past 2x weeks, I've had 2x of their agents call me and ask me if I want to sell/rent my flat to someone they have on the line. My flat has been sold STC on Rightmove since the beginning of April.

Alice Lake and Naomi Bellanti rude employees - based in the reading branch.
My brother and sister in law were really looking forwards to a viewing in reading at 10:30 on the 27th of Jan 2024 (which is today). Alice and Naomi were the estate agents they'd been communicating with. They were very excited because they are looking for their first house to buy as a couple. However, due to severe train delays and cancellations my brother and his wife were put on a rail replacement bus to reading which meant that they were going to be late. This is obviously something out of their control and they were really stressed because of this. They contacted Alice and Naomi to keep them informed and initially Naomi was happy to meet with them despite the slight delay. However, Alice rang them a few minutes later to say and I quote "we expect punctuality" and to inform that they have other commitments after which she cancelled the viewing. My brother left for reading early in the morning, because he lives in London, just so he could make it on time for the viewing (Alice and Naomi were informed , in prior conversations, of the fact that public transport was going to be used). The train network has been unreliable for over a year now so the least they could do is to show some understanding. They've had to make a long journey, be put on a bus to reading only to be half way told that the viewing is cancelled??!. Alice/Naomi, I get that you are a salesperson and you probably have a target to meet, but where is the human side of you? Why are you so rude? The name/reputation of this company depends on employees such as yourself. Therefore, please wake up and start treating your clients with respect/understanding for God's sake! Sales targets aside, your clients are human beings and deserve the same treatment you deserve if and when you are in need of help/kindness/understanding.

Terrible experience with Chancellors where they told a story they did not follow up on, they promised a lot of things and sadly delivered nothing..
A lack of interest from the moment I signed my contract with them, not calling on agreed days to call, 3 weeks to change items on the advertisement where agreed and impossible to get a response from. Poor advertisement/ marketing with badly written descriptions and just lack of effort on things like uploading two of the same pictures one edited and one not which just was embarrassing, Only arranged 1 viewing in 3 months. Very poor effort, attention to detail, and a service to someone who is supposed to be their client, do not recommend.

I have contacted at least 6 other estate agents in Reading over the last few weeks and not one of them has been anywhere near as open, proactive and transparent about the market, the processes and the status of properties of interest. First they tried to sell some unnecessary extra legal package, then never answered any emails, then send some totally useless automatic "statistics", then continued spamming me long after the contract was over despite unsubscribing to all their emails... all show, no action. One of the main reason my property purchase fell through is 'Chancellors'.
Initially, they were responsive, courteous and polite until my offer on a property was accepted. Since then, my experience with them was horrendous and stressful for almost 3 months until the purchase fell through. I'm a first time buyer and made a mistake of going with the solicitors (Knight PLC) recommended by Chancellors. Both of them together are the worst possible combination for the home buying process. Issues with this estate agency are:
- They will not return any of the call or bother to respond to your emails
- Worst sale progression team that you could encounter who doesn't give a hoot about their clients
- You would be wondering if there is any progress with your purchase, because there would absolutely be no updates untill the purchase falls through, because they would definetley call you to inform that.
I was so stressed with my home purchase experience with them. Later I dealt with other estate agents and realized how bad my experience was with 'Chancellors'. I would never recommend Chancellors for anyone!! Stay away from them.

Chancellors are our property managers for our rental house. They were lovely, quick working and super helpful up until our let was agreed, and that’s unfortunately when things went downhill. They began hounding us multiple times a day for every piece of documentation under the sun and payments which weren’t due for over a month. I of course understand documents are of course needed for renting a property, but the communication was excessive and we had multiple people calling us for the same information, obviously having not communicated it between themselves.
Since moving in they have been absolutely useless. When we moved in the house was in a really grubby, frankly gross, condition despite being described as “cleaned to a domestic standard” and with parts of it in really poor repair.
Chancellors are currently in breach of our contract as some much needed works, which they said would be done before we moved in (and which we signed upon in our contract) were not completed. They also only admitted this once we called them out on it. Nearly 5 weeks into our tenancy the works have still not been done, and we’ve given up waiting for a call from the “contractor” we’ve been expecting for the last month. When we contact the property manager they just claim they'll chase the contractor, which clearly isn't working!
The student houses I’ve rented over the years in Reading were in better condition and better managed that this.
We’re looking to buy a property in the next 6-12 months and even if Chancellors were selling our dream house, I would probably still avoid them.
UPDATE: the shower was finally resealed yesterday 3rd Aug, it took 4 months for this to be organised after we moved in.

Selling our property with an agent called Tom. Might have had a crossed wire over communication, so when my partner said she was waiting to hear back from them their end, Tom proceeded to bicker over whose responsibility it was to get in touch. INCREDIBLY unprofessional.
On viewings they (Nicole I think) turn up with the buyer and simply stand in the corner. No proactivity whatsoever. She always seems really friendly, don't get me wrong, but she just stands in the corner and just nods away at whatever anyone says. Zero effort to sell the property. All other estate agents i been with have seemed to sell any good points on the property, lead the viewing, offer to answer any questions etc but no, nothing from Chancellors. Just stand and nod.
One occasion a new starter was sent to conduct a viewing. She seemed nice and actually procative but I was shocked when SHE started to complain to the potential buyer about the distance to town! UNBELIEVABLE! I complained about this to a senior office manager who seemed to think i was stupid as he spent the entire time talking about it without actually saying anything.
We have had to step in and do their job for them and offer to answer any questions to potential buyers. I complained about this and was talked at in circles , given a million excuses as to why the agents do nothing on viewings. I got tired of listening to him and agreed to disagree - only for head office to call a few weeks after and completely agreed with what I'm saying ( i get the feeling the reading branch have gotten so many complaints that head office has had to step in)
Been trying to sell our flat with them for a while now. No luck. From our various calls you really get the impression they do the bare minimum. Lots of occasions where they dont follow through on confirmation calls, feedback calls etc basically seems like a complete shambles in their offices. You're supposed to get a call a week to update you on the stats, but sometimes they cant even be bothered to do that. When they DO call, they just pestered us to bring the price down, ensuring us we'd see a significant change in views. We finally brought the price down and yep, no change in views.
You express you dissatisfaction and you're always hit with the same 'we're sorry you feel that way' stock answer. Really feels like an office of young, cocky comission chasers.
On our call today we asked what was being done to get views and all we got was ' we're sending emails'. Couldnt tell us how many, not even an approximate number.
We're now looking into ending our contract with them and going elsewhere. AWFUL experience.
update: Danni got in touch after asking for my contact to tell me she cant deal with my complaint and would need to get someone from a different department...then refered me there.
UPDATE: After handing our notice in to leave their services, all activity dropped to zero. We asked since it was apparent they would not put any further effort in to selling our property that they just let us go early. We spoke with Marc Williams (regional director) who agreed, but AS LONG AS WE AGREED TO NOT LEAVE ANY BAD REVIEWS ON FACEBOOK OR TRIP ADVISOR. Wow! not just shoddy service but BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL. So essentially trying to bully us into not reporting what awful service we've had.
I did talk about this with head office and they already knew about it but agreed it was defintely not the call they would have made. They could have just let us go and left it at that, instead they just kicked us a little more. She assured us, that obviously, we would be free to express our dissatisfaction however we chose. Although head office did a decent job at expressing their concern, there should be some sort of disciplinary action for trying to manipulate clients this way.
In all not just the worst estate agent we've ever dealt with but easily one of the worst 'professional' organisations we've ever dealt with.

We sold our flat through Chancellors Reading and was initially impressed with Dave who got us a buyer fairly quickly after having not got any interest through a different agent. The service we then got after was nothing to shout about. I had more contact from the agent selling the house we were purchasing making sure we were ok and everything was going smoothly than we did from Chancellors. We had several calls when it got quite close to the end of the sale but nothing was proactive from Chancellors, we were having to reach out. I hadn't had any contact for a few weeks and when I reached out to Dave he told me he had left the business! Why was our sale not handed over to anyone? Likewise 2 weeks after we've moved in to our new home we had contact from the Reading office asking whether we still needed help selling the flat?! I'm not sure how Chancellors can justify taking a % commission for doing very little work and showing a real lack of communication both with us and internally.

I chose Chancellors to let my properties in Reading a couple of years ago and subsequently decided to do it myself through an online platform, which ended up saving me a significant amount (over £600 per letting) and also generated a significantly higher rent.
Since I stopped using them, Chancellors have bombarded me with calls, sometimes up to 2 a day, offering various services. I have told them multiple times to stop calling me and a call today was the final straw before writing this review. There are a few exceptions - David Paton is a good letting agent - but for the most part their staff turnover is high and they will pester you worse than any scam caller.

Please avoid this company at all costs!
Our property is four bed, full modernized and upto date has a drive way and garage with a large landscaped garden but after 25 viewings we had no offeres. I should also state we have a young child who seen last October had 9 admissions into hospital so most occasions we had to run home to ensure the house was tidy for these viewings.
Other estate agents were contacting us saying they have sold very similar properties in our area in a matter of days.
They seem to just get anyone through the door to view your house but it doesn't mean they are getting Interested parties .
On top of this they wouldn't release us from the contract even though it clearly wasnt working out.
They are not professional, the feedback is a joke ! Mainly an email stating that the person could find something bigger cheaper in your area ( trying to get you to drive your house price down)
I found myself having to contact them for information, any viewings, times and dates etc
Not only did the manager change at the Reading branch and we weren't Informed but he continued to send us reports?
Then this company put everyone on Furlough leave and knowing prior to this that our contract was ending didn't contact me and now still have my key to my property.
All I got was if it's not an emergency they cant give me my key back and the contact they do have on duty should actually be Furlonged as they themselves are vounable. ( I have a child who in January was in PICU in John Radcliffe hospital so I understand vounable)
Excuses, lies, and a waste of time!.
So they still have my key for as long as this current situation lasts even through our contract with them has ended.
The contact they do have answering emails shouldn't leave the house but was trying to tell me they could die if they did and would need to ask the police to leave, which is misinformed information on there part.
I simply cannot be bothered to argue with them any longer but will be seeking advice from my solicitor as I have been treated very poorly throughout the time we have been on the market with them.
Go anywhere but here ! Especially if you want to sell your property!

They are very polite, knowledgeable and very nice people. I viewed a property on Zoopla which I liked and arranged a viewing with them. Later on I reflected on the property and cancelled at the last moment as parking was a bit of inconvenience with that particular property, in my opinion. It was absolutely fine with them and they took rejection really well, they did not call me up and force me to view other properties like other estate agents. I did not use their service, but the first impression I got about the company is they are very professional, friendly and extremely polite people. I had a couple of interactions with them but
you can make out they are very good guys, as the saying goes childhood shows the man, as morning shows the day. Please take up their service you will not be disappointed. I was dealing with a person called Nicole Morris.

Frankly, it was not like this good service as I had expected when I did rent for a new property through them and I have experienced some concerns that even taken up to them without any response. Chancellors need to be more honest to their customers when offering them a service especially furnished ones, just not to offer them something they will not find. Low rate to them from my side.

One of the most unreliable and unapologetic experiencies I've had with a real estate agency. There was no way to get appointments straight, both because they sent no confirmation emails and kept moving the times without asking.
When going to their office to get things ironed out, it was a blur of excuses and lack of options to move forward.

Their services are not good enough. They don’t really treat us with good respect and was very pushy to bring down the selling price of the house we were selling. We knew exactly the selling price were spot on and they even agreed with us at the start.... So many mis-communications between their employers as we kept getting different numbers texting us about viewings. I was so not happy of how this has happened. They said they did not receive our written confirmation of termination, I explained that we did and I sent proof of it. I heard nothing since then... disappointing.

Yesterday I wanted to make a viewing for one of the property for renting.
I wanted....but I didn't.
Very rude agent - Kayleigh wasn't be able to wait for me 10 min, even if I advised by phone that I stocked in road traffic. When I got a place she already gone (perhaps I even saw here car), and after that didn't pick up a phone. Earlier I also advised, that I don't know Reading and I need to go out from work few minutes before ending to attend the appointment and I expected a little bit understanding .
So....The renting a flat it is not only sigh the agreement, but also how the agent (on behalf of a landlord) treat the tenants. What can I expect if on beginning I met as patronizing behavior.
I know, it wasn't expensive flat, however, good professional agent treats all clients with the same attention.
But this, what I met yesterday, it wasn't caring of a client at all.

Josh, David and Lauren are amazing, they always deliver and trust me I've put them under some pressure from time to time. They always go above and beyond and seem to always be able to find that needle in the haystack that I'm always looking for.
I don't want to leave out the sales team they are always friendly and helpful as well I would highly recommend working with them.
I can never find enough nice things to say about these guys, they prove themselves time and time again.
The property management team are the best too. I just can't think of enough to say it would never be good enough

I registered with Chancellors whilst looking for a property to buy, along with many other agencies. However, Chacellors were by far the most disorganised agency and in the end I deregistered from them even though I was still looking for a house, just to stop the calls and emails. I would get constant calls and emails, sometimes from different team members within an hour of each other asking if I was still looking for a property. Once I confirmed I was I would get told “great we will send you a list of suitable properties” but this never happened. I once chased for this list of suitable properties and got sent a list of properties half of which I knew to be sold from Rightmove, which was confirmed once I asked about viewing some of them. I must have told Chancellors what we were looking for at least once a month but when we were sent property details they would be wholly unsuitable (e.g. we are looking for a period house minimum 3 bedrooms and was sent details of 2 bed flats way under budget). Couple of properties we viewed with them agent was late and a bit clueless about the house/area and got a bit sarky when we politely said one house wasn’t for us.

If I could give them zero stars I would as it is the most horrible agency I had ever dealt with. They are really unprofessional starting from completing the application form - I have gave them all details and still they were not able to fill in correctly (it was just copy-paste). And continuing with properly renting the place. My experience is a worst one as they told me one week before moving in that they cannot rent the place any longer and they did not gave me any reasonable argument. All this after I had signed the contract and payed the deposit and rent in advance!!!! This shows how unimportant the customer is for them and the lack of professionalism of the personnel.
They are not trustful and I would not recommend to anyone to rent a place using this agency. Stay away from them!!!
As an advice for the agency: Please take a look on what customer service means and how important is to keep your promises when working with clients. And stop fooling people!!

Horrendous!! Is the only acceptable word i can think to describe them. Happy to call you every day for a week wondering when you are going to pay your deposit (which isn't due to be paid for another month) but incapable of answering the phone, replying to e mails, passing on a message when there is an actual issue on check in. I had one girl "tut" at me for calling twice the morning i moved in. Another boy forgot to mute and openly shouted across the office about how i was "on the phone....again!" - disgraceful! If you want to pay a lot of money to do everything yourself and have no contact with your letting agent then they'd be perfect for you.

I rarely have the time to write reviews. However when it comes to Chancellors in Reading I simply had to make the time.
Not only is the service outstanding, but they actually get results and fast. I’ve been a landlord in reading for 16 years and I’ve let properties through both good and bad agents.
Chancellors in Reading top them all. Dave is so on the ball it’s ridiculous. Within 24 hours he arranged 6 viewings for my property, received 3 offers for the full asking price and one that was willing to pay 6 months rent in advance. Like I said, outstanding!

Our experience with all the staff at Chancellors in Reading has been a stress free, enjoyable one and we would highly recommend using them!
There is such a variation of Estate Agent offerings nowadays but for us, the personal touch makes a huge difference. We needed local knowledge, a company with a pro-active approach and a willingness to maintain momentum by continually encouraging viewings, not only for the first week or two. Reading is flooded with so many new builds and conversions on offer so we needed an agent to take the lead with minimal input from us.
We got more than that with the team at Reading. They are such a likeable, knowledgeable team that did not just see us as commission, they got to know us. Looking back on our journey we cannot recall a single example of bad or non-existent communication.
Our dealings with Millie throughout this process has been fantastic and she certainly deserves a mention. She is an absolute asset to Chancellors and from initial contact, has been a bubbly, friendly personality with a huge enthusiasm to help. At times our journey was extremely stressful, as we struggled with an uncommunicative solicitor. Millie was always at the end of the telephone and took ownership to help. She touched base with us consistently throughout the process to ensure we were updated and returned calls promptly.
She was key to selling our properties but most importantly, key to making our journey an enjoyable, successful one, even if at times that was purely alleviating our stress by listening!

I just had my flat let by Chancellors in Reading. David came in within a day's notice , did an extremely realistic and professional valuation and sent professional photographers to take pictures. the property went on web site in a day. they regularly sent market update and ran through feed back and found me a suitable tenant and sent out the contract - all in 2 weeks. it has been a pleasure dealing with Lauren, David, John, Charlotte etc - the whole lettings team and I will be definitely using them again in future.

Very pleasant experience working with this agency. Was looking for a flat to rent in Reading and they were nothing but friendly. Even though I didn't go for one of their flats in the end, I was 100% happy with their approach and I wish every agency was as professional as them.

I have used the letting service of Chancellors in Newbury and was very impressed with their service so when one of our Reading flats became vacant I turned to the Reading branch.
Charlotte of the Reading branch did a top notch job for us by securing a very good tenant almost within hours of the property going onto the market.
I have used other agents in the past but for us its Chancellors every time now.

Lauren was very welcoming and helped in a time of need, Lauren ensured the process went smoothly to ensure we were in our property as quickly as possible. The guys were super efficient - Met with Dave and he right away gave me a multitude of different options for letting my apartment, which other Agents hadn't.
Lauren was also very communicative, keeping me up to date with progress every step of the way; it's clear the guys in the Reading Chancellors office work really well together for a great end result.

The team at Chancellor's is very professional. The Lettings Manager, David is very familiar with the letting market. He is very attentive and can provide lots of advice and stay very close with us , the landlord during the whole process. Would be less than one if I had the option. On 14th July I arranged to view a property today (Mon 17th July) with Chancellors. The appointment was also confirmed. Embarrassment for both my family and the vendors when we turned up today to view only to be told the property is sold! Chancellors were told this on Friday when they rang to arrange our viewing today, the vendors told us they were surprised by the call and told Chancellors 'we thought we'd sold?' at which point Chancellors replied 'oh yes you have'. Shame Chancellors couldn't have been more professional and called us to cancel the viewing. Talk about a waste of time.

I felt he was friendly, articulate and was able to answer all questions we had.
After 3 previous viewing with different agents that day Josh made this an enjoyable experience and I did not feel pressured into a hard sale from him.

An excellent experience! We have sold 4 properties in Reading over the past few years and have been pretty unimpressed by agents we have used, with the exception of Chancellors. On the sales side, Jemma was friendly, professional and knowledgeable and, once we had agreed a sale, Michael kept us informed regularly of developments and was helpful and professional also. David Paton did a superior job finding me a house to rent. Other sites came up with zero results, other agencies didn't reply to my emails, people said it would be difficult or impossible to find a place matching my criteria. David did it in a day. I got the keys five working days later. There were considerable challenges, but David achieved it like it was nothing.

Awful service after ringing to book a viewing nearly over a week ago. I rang to ask the estate agent where they were for them to tell me it hadn't been booked in. Gareth then proceeded to tell me he was unsure how this occurred even though it was himself that "booked" this in & left me voicemails in regards to this. Wouldn't recommend anyone to use this company if they can't even book in a simple house viewing!

I have never left a review for anything or anyone before but cannot begin to explain the experience we've had with Chancellors. I have to at least hope to help someone else avoid using them and the stress we have had.
They are impossible to get hold of despite numerous chasers, took weeks before a window advert with multiple excuses as to why (and none of them true), members of staff go AWOL and don't turn up to work resulting in no update for up to a week after a viewing. This is just to name a few. They are honestly appalling.
Don't believe the nonsense they give you when they come to your property - you will not be any different. KEEP CLEAR.

By far the most unprofessional estate agent I have ever dealt with.
Every time I asked to book a viewing, they would tell me they would get back to me, and never do. When I called about the agent not turning up for the viewing, they (as usual) told me they would get back to me. Alas, they never did.
I will be doing my best to avoid them and strongly recommend that other buyers in the Reading area do so too. Unless you like your time wasted.

Absolutely appalling. We had a viewing booked in and confirmed for a first time buy and the agent stood us up without warning. We tried to call several times the office as we were waiting and they weren't able to help locate the agent, instead they told us they'll call us back. They obviously never did and when we called the next day to understand what happened and to reschedule the viewing, the reception told us they will speak to relevant people and call us back, and again they never did. Very highly unprofessional behaviour, we will avoid Chancellors by all means for our property search and encourage any other serious buyer to do the same.

I have spoken to number of estate agents over the years and I have to say when dealing with Chancellors in Reading, it has been the best service I could of received. I didn't get the that personal touch when speaking to the others agent in regards to my own property.
When the time is right for my husband and I to sell I would instruct Chancellors within a heart beat!

I searched for a flat in reading with Chancellors. Communications were ok, they tried to accommodate my schedule for viewings. However, at the viewing it seem she only task was to bully us into filling out their application form. The form said we had read their tenants guide, which we hadn't. She did not have a copy of the guide and said 'you can look it up online later'. We also asked to clarify a few points in their T&Cs and what she said contradicted the application form. Needless to say that we did not sign anything. I'll avoid Chancellors in the future.

As an experienced property investor, I've had numerous dealings with Estate Agents over the past 20 years. I’ve found Chancellors of Reading to be a highly professional outfit whose staff are both friendly and knowledgeable.
A notable agent in the office was Lawrence Charles. I found his manner to strike the right balance of being friendly whilst maintaining professional decorum. His knowledge of the local area and market conditions are exceptional, and his support during the buying process has been second to none. He always returns calls and emails in a timely manner. Above all, Lawrence maintains a high degree of integrity and honesty which for me are priceless attributes in a person and the industry.
Chancellors of Reading are certainly one of the most professional outfits in Reading. Highly recommended.
