College and county has looked after two rental houses for me for several years and they take all the hassle out of my life. They select great tenants and give regular feedback on how the letting is progressing, they also deal efficiently with the normal household problems like drains, appliance breakages and keep me informed with me having to interrupt my day to sort them out. They have also negotiated HMO licences with the council on my behalf. I have had requests from other letting agencies but am not going to change. Thank you C&C

We have let our property with College and County for about 15 years - most recently our tenant left unexpectedly and the guidance, advice and customer service we received was exceptional from the College & County Team. The property maintenance team immediately kicked into action and advised us of repair and maintenance work required and created an impressive project plan and timetable to get the work completed and project managed the work. Whilst the work was being completed, the rental team advised us on the rental market and the pricing strategy and marketed the property. They very quickly identified a new tenant at the agreed rent. I rented with College and County for three years and I had a genuinely good experience. Callum, my property manager, was always quick to respond, clear in his communication, and very helpful whenever anything came up. He made sure everything ran smoothly, including facilitating clear and seamless communication with the landlord, and any issues were dealt with efficiently.
The flat was really well-maintained, well insulated, with yearly check-ups to keep everything in good shape, and I appreciated that the rent increases stayed reasonable. They provided helpful advice for winter and dealing with things like mould, which was a nice touch!

I have had a very good experience with the College & County Letting Agent Company. The staff are highly professional and quick to respond to matters. If the property manager is out on visits, the office staff will attempt to make direct contact or make sure I am promptly called back. They are also able to pass on any of my messages, ensuring no query goes unanswered.
Their service is not only efficient but also friendly, making interactions smooth and stress-free. The team is well-informed and even keeps clients updated with video newsletters, keeping everyone in the loop about changes that may impact them as a landlord.
The property manager demonstrates professionalism and knowledge and will go above and beyond, even offering tenants constructive feedback to help maintain the property and keep it in good condition. In the event of maintenance issues, a professional is quickly arranged to resolve the problem, providing peace of mind to both landlords and tenants.
Billing notifications are presented efficiently, and if there are any delays in payments, the office communicates effectively with me to let me know what is going on.

My wife and I moved from California to Oxford with a cat for work. The entire immigration process is extremely stressful and intimidating, but College and County were truly excellent in their service and responsiveness, and they made finding housing very easy and stress-free. Our apartment is a dream-come-true, and we were confident in signing the lease, prior to our journey to the UK. This made the transition MUCH easier. My property was over valued. I wasn't too worried as I wasn't in a hurry at the time, but it took too long to recognise this, which was probably not perfect in a relatively flat market.
My key comment however relates to the very poor communication. Slow responses to telephone calls and often with an email rather than a call.

Awful experience as a tenant with College and County.
Shortly after moving into a C&C rental, my partner (who is asthmatic) was having trouble breathing despite pretty mild allergies issues that had never been problematic before - maybe due to a cat living in the property previously, which wasn't disclosed to us, or maybe as we later discovered due to a pretty bad mould issue (not sure why EPC ratings of E are legal, but that's a separate issue).
When told about this, C&C refused to provide any useful accommodations, such as e.g. replacing the carpets, which were in pretty disgusting condition anyway thanks to carpet moths. Legally, they (and landlords) are supposed to provide reasonable accommodations for asthma, which is considered a disability under the Equality Act. Instead they offered only to let us leave early, except rather than just giving us a move out date, they made it conditional on them finding a replacement tenant and us paying rent until the day the new tenant moved in. So, we were kept in limbo for weeks, unable to live safely in that property but also unsure if we'd be on the hook for thousands of pounds extra in rent because they didn't want to risk their landlord going a few days without rent.
They tried to pin the blame for the situation on us, for not mentioning my partner's allergy or asking about pets before renting. This is very clearly unfair. First, her allergies weren't severe and had never caused an issue before - if the property had been fairly mould-free and cleaned properly it would've been fine. Second, they obviously just wouldn't have rented to us if we'd mentioned it beforehand, since there were 10 other parties lining up to rent that place - it just opens you up to discrimination based on disability, which, again, is illegal. No sympathy, no help, just making sure we didn't lose their landlord any rent on their little investment property.
EDIT 9/7/24: unsure why the response below says they have "no record" of me, I have rented with C&C two separate times and had extensive email correspondence with them. Just a lame attempt to discredit my review, I guess ???????

College and County is one of the best lettings agents I have seen in Oxford. Unlike some agents in Oxford who intimidate you or do not respond to your emails during the leasing period, College and County was responsive to any issues that I had during the last three years. They were able to resolve any issues I had with the property within a reasonable timeframe. The landlord was good too. The staff is professional, courteous, and helpful.

They discriminate severely when renting properties. They state that there are criteria for matching the tenant with the property, but fail to disclose what that actually means. On top of that, they had viewings from couples when the property had authorization for a single occupant.

One of the better ones. They definitively know what they are doing, and are on it.
They do send a horrible load of emails and work with a not very functional web-service for the contract, however, I guess this is better than zero or late communication. They also make up for technical glitches with extremely helpful and kind staff.
The down-side of them being on it is of course that there is little flexibility - everyone has to act according to the rules (e.g. they will make you move out of your house at the end of your yearly contract if more than 2 people in the tenancy agreement change; but they will give the house a deep clean and make sure the inventory is fine).
So overall good!

In the past, I had really bad (I mean REALLY bad) experiences with letting agencies and like most people renting in Oxford I was very reluctant to rent a flat again via a letting agency.
College and County, however, were the absolute best. The Team is so responsive and friendly and warm. I felt really well taken care off and I am a bit sad now that I wont be in touch with them anymore as I have moved on to College owned accommodation.
I cannot recommend them more.

Absolute joke of an estate agent, expect to get your deposit completely ripped off you by these criminals. I could write a 3000 word essay on why you shouldn’t rent with college and county but the main problem in my house (and all of my friends houses) was the mould problem they completely ignored after a years worth of emails and appeals. The mould problem was so bad in our house that 2 of my housemates were on antibiotics for the entirety of the year. When I walked past the house the day after the tennancy ended they had builders painting over the mouldy walls instead of dealing with the problem. They also billed us £700 for cleaning at the end of tennancy, but overlooked the fact that one of our friends had decided to re-let the property; when she moved back in, the house was in the exact same state we had left it in. They stole our money and left us to live in a structurally damaged hazardous building for a year. You would get better living conditions if you sublet a property in Yemen. Go to Finders Keepers, they genuinely care about the people that rent with them

I rented a property a few years ago and it still stands as my worst experience with a letting agency. Moving into the property mid December with a broken toliet and no heating was bad. But my favourite in a very long list of issues was when I contacted the office in an emergency as water was pouring through the kitchen ceiling (caused by a leaking shower that was never fixed during the tenancy and caused issues with mould) and was told 'I don't understand can you send an email with photos'!? We had never been shown where to turn the water off and the ceiling did have to be replaced. As young professionals we were made to feel like an annoying burden. At least we had no issues with the deposit.
It's a shame the manager ignores all private complaints via email when things can be fixed, yet is very quick to respond to reviews in detail!

I rented a student property from College and County in 2022-23 and had no trouble at all. Ewelina was always responsive, helpful, and the agency always helped us repair things in a timely manner, and were reasonable regarding fair wear and tear. Only slight negative was that some communications seemed to imply that it was mandatory for us to get the property professionally cleaned upon check out. Quoting from an email: "Cleaning charges are a common deduction from your deposit at the end of a tenancy. To avoid this, and as per your tenancy agreement (where you have agreed to have the property professionally cleaned) we recommend you contact any of the below ‘preferred’ cleaning companies." It is illegal for landlords to require this of tenants, and when I explicitly asked about this, it was acknowledged that we could just clean it ourselves, but I do feel like some communications were worded such that we were led to believe that we absolutely must use professional cleaners, which felt a bit sneaky. Overall though, it was a very positive experience renting with C&C.

Overall good experience with the company and continue to use them just a few issues with certain members of staff over properties that are just not to standard. I understand that a lot of issues like hot water, general wear and tear , mould and doors and lights not working or closing properly for example are not primarily their fault but some properties on their listing are just not to standard and landlords should be ashamed for what they charge. They are mostly lovely and respond quickly to concerns or questions.

The timings of our move were tighter than ideal, and the team at C+C acted especially quickly on our behalf, to make the process as easy as possible. All our enquiries have been replied to swiftly, and always with a helpful response. On the two occasions that we have been to the office in person we have been helped quickly and professionally by different members of the team.

They obtain all safety certificates, HMO applications etc. on our behalf. They have dealt with any problems like replacing a broken washing machine or fixing a water leak quickly and efficiently. Their customer service is first class, they are easy to contact by email or phone. They will offer helpful advice if we need it. Basically, they do all the work and we just sit back and watch the rent come in.

Zero customer service, especially from the manager. All they care about is money. They don't care about the residents at all. You will get a lot of unnecessary emails about how to spend your money, heating and that. They dont properly check their accounts and keep placing people in rent arrears when rent has already been paid. Also, they make a lot of unnecessary visits. Nothing helpful or useful from this agency. There is no reasonable way out of the contract once you sign it and no further support. Be warned.

A multiplicity of problems within the duration of our tenancy, especially regarding structural mould. After communicating with college and county about the mould issues *several* times, the only ‘solutions’ given were links to mould remover sprays online. This was at best a temporary solution which in no way prevented the dangerous mould from appearing again. There was never any kind of investigation, etc, into why the mould occurred, or consideration for us as tenants. As we are students, I predict there was an expectation by the landlord and agents that we were the ones causing mould and other problems within the flat. However, I can say confidently that is not the case, as we kept the flat well ventilated and in good condition. Also it wouldn’t be unreasonable to say that it seemed like they wanted us to just accept our fate in substandard housing, as we were students with a yearly contract. Expected a lot more from such a well known lettings agency. Would never use again.

I found the property online (190 Iffley Road, Oxford) and was in touch with agent Charmian Monroe. She confirmed in her email saying “we can do 2pm” for our agreed date. (Email conversation can be provided if helpful).
I showed up earlier and happened to ran into the landlord (Philippa) who was so lovely and caring and renovated the place so nicely as if they were furnished for her children. After parting with her I waited for Charmian to show up to discuss further about rental details.
15 mins past by and no one showed up and thus I called their office for Charmian. She then told me an appointment was not made with confirmation and thus a viewing was not scheduled, and that the 3 rooms that she showed me were all unavailable anymore. She claimed I would have received a confirmation email and I should have confirmed attendance on the morning, despite NEVER mentioning it in our email conversation, and proceed to blame me for not following the company policy even though it was never mentioned to me once. I was also never notified about the unavailability of the properties thus I made my way for the viewing.
I came to Oxford from London specially for viewing properties and it would have been a complete waste of time and money if I didn’t happen to run into Philippa. It was truly a disappointing and unprofessional experience and I am sad that Phillippa’s property is managed by them.

Now entering my second year and second tenancy with C&C. I have found them to be very helpful, supportive and responsive - much better than my previous experience with Chancellors! Getting the contracts set up has been very efficient and feels more secure through their use of the platform Goodlord. Any maintenance has been dealt with as swiftly as possible with people usually being sent out the next day - many thanks to Sonali, and now Callum, for managing our properties, they've always been very responsive to phone calls and emails. It also feels like C&C have a good relationship with their landlords as they're very open to reasonable requests and do their best to ensure a good living standard, especially in comparison to many student properties. In return there are maybe slightly higher requirements for property maintenance and cleanliness but nothing unreasonable or that doesn't benefit the tenants. I would definitely recommend renting a property managed by C&C if you have the option!

My partner and I were in a property managed by the Thame College and County Property Management team for just over 2 years, and our time with them was superb. Our main point of contact was Ellen, who was always able to solve any issues we had quickly and left us with a smile.
When it came time to move out, we received the initial inventory report to say that the professional clean wasn't up to standard. We immediately called Ellen who informed us that she had already been in touch with the cleaners and that they had been booked in to re-attend to the property. This saved us a huge amount of stress!

There were many issues with the property upon my arrival, like heating, shower, leaking pipes. So, you’d ask why it is not a one star! The answer is the level of support I received from C&C. In particular, Chama was a game-changer, turning my frustration at the beginning of my tenancy into satisfaction. I found her very responsive, friendly and helpful in sorting out the issues. We have used College & County exclusively over more than 10 years for a let-only service for an extensive portfolio of flats and recommend them without hesitation. The quality of their tenant selection is our primary reason for using them; secondly it is an owner-managed business and all communication with them is handled efficiently and professionally. They are an experienced team offering consistent points of contact from one year to a next which is helpful when managing renewals and a very busy summer changeover period. TL;DR: Personally, College and County was the worst renting experience in the UK so far over the past 6 years of living here, would only consider them again in extreme circumstances.
The property had a rodent problem, which was not being fixed for months (they didn't believe us when we were saying there were rats in the house). The only thing that made them tackle the problem was me taking a photo of a baby rat sitting next to our dishes in the kitchen and then showing it to the agency.
Upon leaving the property, they told us to get professional cleaning by their number one recommended provider. We did that, it cost us almost £600. The cleaning was done on the penultimate working day of our tenancy - as late as possible - after everyone had moved out. However, we were still charged over £100 from our deposit at the end of the tenancy for what they called "light dust" and similar things. Also, things like "loose door handles" and similar natural wear cost us £180. Overall, we were charged around 20% of our deposit for various things. We were too tired to argue with them over the money so just ended up paying in full and we were so happy for everything to end.
My friends and acquaintances who have rented from C&C have told me many similar stories. Hands down this is the worst renting experience I've had during my 6 years of renting in the UK, will not rent from C&C in the future.

AVOID - charge illegal fees
College and County knowingly charged me and my housemate prohibited payments when we needed to find a new tenant / a sublet to take our spaces in the house. The 2019 Tenant Fees Act sets a general cap of £50 that a landlord can charge in those situations, unless extraordinary circumstances apply. College and County charged us £250 (!) each. When we protested, they complained about the UK government guidelines, threatened not to accept our requests (in violation of our contract), and blackmailed us into paying them.
If something similar happened to you (£250 is College and County’s standard charge for early release fees), I recommend getting in touch with ACORN Oxford, a powerful union. ACORN have a long tradition of standing up to College and County and other exploitative letting agencies and landlords. They were so helpful in recovering my money. Even after the judge had ordered College and County to repay me £150, C&C only finally paid after ACORN got involved. Had I gone to ACORN straight away instead of the tribunal, I might have gotten back even more.
After I posted about my situation on facebook, many of my friends came forward with similar horror stories about College and County. I know from personal experience that when they think you like them, they will ask you to leave them a positive Google Review. That is one way to try to hide how your tenants really think about you.
If you're thinking of renting with College and County in Corona-times – be careful. The last place you want to end up in is with a letting agency who tries to extract (by legal and illegal means) every penny from you when you are in a very vulnerable situation.

My overlall experiences with College & County have been positive to this day. The team members are very friendly, helpful and especially flexible and react promptly to inquiries in most cases.
I give four out of five stars, because I had a couple of situations where the symptoms of a problem were tackled rather than the problem itself (i.e. short-term solutions instead of proper fixing). Luckily, these have been solved properly in the end.

I contacted college and county regarding a property that I saw on rightmove. They told me that the flat was unavailable for the move in dates I was interested in. However they proceeded to ask me what kind of specifications I was looking for so they could help find another fitting property.
The best aspect of this exchange was their responsiveness. All of my emails were responded to in an hour or two. I was never left waiting, with my current housing agency i can wait over two weeks for a response and usually have to call to prompt one.

TL;DR: I would only rent a property with C&C as the last resort that I may go homeless.
Unless you’d like to prepare for debating why the maintenance is necessary, or threatening them with reporting C&C to the government authority, go ahead and rent a house under C&C.
Before we moved in, we were promised the house would be professionally cleaned and everything should be ready to use.
Attached photo was a reply of a long list of maintenance - when they said “note on inventory”, it means they won’t attend it, even though the toilet may go loose and pipe burst. It is a kind of nightmare that they don’t mind us having to deal with.
The reality spoke otherwise, we put in a list, which turned out to be a 11-page report, of what needs to be cleaned and fixed.
One of the items on the list was mould and mildew grow in a mattress ALL rooms, including bathrooms, kitchen and all bedrooms.
We failed to ask them to clear them up, even though the check-in report also showed very clearly that the mould was all there on the move-in date.
After chains of emails, some (NOT ALL!) mould was treated after we said we would report them to the Environmental Health Services.
Another example: sassy staff on maintenance
When we request to have the kitchen faucet fixed because once you open the faucet, the water would aim at you, instead of towards the sink, no matter how gently we open it. The feedback we got from the sassy staff (Maja) said, and I quote: “please make sure to open the water gently and not to fully to avoid water splashes” Shocking news, never occurred to us to turn the knob slowly! We then had to send a set of video, of all tenants turning the knob gently and we still couldn’t keep the water aiming at the sink. Maja then (finally, but reluctantly) sent an engineer to fix it. The hilarious moment was when the engineer came in and opened the tap, the first thing he said was, and I quote “wow this tap has to go”. Imagine how bizarre and exhausting that we had to explain and back up ourselves every single time.
These are only two examples highlighted, many more in my mailbox and none showed them care for the tenants.
My friends were wondering why I moved out shortly, but when I mentioned C&C, they understood. This probably speaks a great volume about its poor reputation.

Ripped us off with cleaning charges (£225 for small amounts of dust and some streak marks from us cleaning). Took 6 weeks of fighting to get our pro-rated rent back. Took 5 weeks of fighting after agreeing to their outrageous charges to get our deposit back (this is illegal). They lied about this and said we were not entitled to a refund. They required invasive property inspections. I would not recommend them, much like every other letting agent, they exist only for the benefit of the landlord, they are not on your side.

I have been living in a flat operated by College and County since 2015. This is the fifth year of me living in the flat and I would really recommend CC to anyone who is looking for a good and reliable agency in Oxford. Everything contract-related is very transparent and I am particularly happy about how the maintenance team has always been operating - they have been very reasonable and responding fast when anything goes wrong. The communication between us and the landlord has also been handled really well. In short, I don't have another agency to compare since I have not moved to another flat whereas none of the horrifying Oxford renting-related stories have happened during the past four years so I count myself lucky.

Overall we didn't encounter any problems during our tenancy, the staff were fast to respond to technical issues and queries, and were generally very friendly.
However being asked to pay £110 (each!) on a cleaning service to clean our small flat in order to meet their 'suitable' standards before moving out is beyond ridiculous. On top of this, we were charged £20 each for the removal of a binbag's worth of recyclable waste (small left- behind kitchen ware). Although £20 isn't a substantial amount, you would think that us paying an extortionate £110 each on a cleaner should cover an extremely minor inconvenience such as this. Meaning that unless you happen to be a professional cleaner while owning an array of advanced cleaning equipment, expect to spend £100+ to get your full deposit back.
So to sum it all up, it was a pleasant stress-free tenancy, despite the unethical practices to snatch some extra coin from students towards the end.

Me and my husband were tenants of a property let & managed by College and County for a year, and we were truly satisfied to work with them from the first day to the last. It was our first house rental experience in the UK and we were a little bit worried at first. Reading the comments here, I thought it might be a struggle to get the deposit back at the end of the tenancy. But they were very responsive and resolved our enquires in no time. We rented a postgraduate/professional property with College and County for 4 years. In the main, they were very efficient in responding to emails and trying to sort out any issues we had. Switching tenants in some of the rooms went very smoothly. The check-out was also smooth and the majority of our deposit was returned. With a few recurring issues, we did need to send reminders to try to get them sorted and make sure they didn't fall off the bottom of their to-do list. Overall, I would recommend renting through College and County to others. Much better service than previous agencies - especially from Sonali towards the end of our tenancy!

I wanted a five year HMO licence, but being an old Victorian property with box sash windows, I didn't hold out much hope! College and County were brilliant! They filled in the forms, and sent the necessary certificates, such as fire alarm, electrical and gas. I didn't have the hassle to do all this. To my surprise, I have been sent a draft, indicating I will have a 5 year licence. They couldn't have been more helpful. I've been using them for about 20 years, and have found them very reliable and efficient.

I have rented from 11+ different landlords and letting agents across the country over the last 11 years and College and County have been the best by a mile.
From day one, they accommodated our needs which included needing to be one of the first to view the property, sent clear information to me as only my partner was able to attend the viewing. Even prior to the new legislation coming into place surrounding certain fees, college and county did not charge for many of the fees that other companies would and those they did charge were very small comparatively.
I was not living in the area at the time and they were very patient and communicated with the landlord for me regarding me coming into the office to provide my passport etc after the initial deadline. when I did come, they immediately knew who I was and what property I was there in relation to, which demonstrated a great level of professionalism and customer focus.
The landlord we rent from has also been brilliant and there have been no issues, however I am confident that if there had been and this had been a property owned by College and County, that they would have been more than happy to help.
furthermore, they have been great at keeping us updated as tenants and being transparent about the renewal of contracts/the partial returning of a deposit from the first to second contract year.
Their staff have always replied to any communication in a friendly and prompt way.

I had an excellent experience renting my house with College and County. They took great photos and my place was rented out within 48 hours of advertising. They found me an excellent tenant who has caused me no trouble at all. I live abroad and they handle the day to day running the property really well, with very good communication and efficient payment. They have an excellent group of local plumbers, builders, electricians etc to handle any maintenance, and the bills are always very reasonable. When I wanted to move back in to my property, they project managed some renovations for me to an extremely high standard. AVOID, THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY!
I have been a tenant with C&C for a year. In particular I entered as a replacement tenant in a previous agreement, renewed it for another year and terminated my tenancy in advance. I had the chance to experience the worst of the agency.
I was renting a room in a shared property managed by this agency. I entered the room with the promise that it was professionally cleaned and I noticed the carpet under the bed had not been hoovered for a very long time. I didn't complain at that time as I thought it was normal and I cleaned myself.
I was paying for a cleaning fee included in my rent. A professional cleaner should have cleaned the common spaces every two weeks.... well i have seen the cleaners, but they never cleaned. The cupboards were filthy outside and inside, the utility room was covered in a sticky layer of dirt and the carpet on the first and second floor was never hoovered. The facilities in the kitchen were meant to be cleaned quarterly and this never happened: the dishwasher was covered in a thick layer of mould. I have complained several times and I only got "fake answers": things like "the tenants should take care of the daily cleaning" and "we will instruct the cleaners" (really? never seen the result!). The few times they actually cared they would send a contractor that was often entering unannounced in the property (they claim to always send a mail, and they do, just the contractors never show up when expected!) I was already upset but the worst had to come!
When I had to leave the room and move I knew I would have to find a replacement tenant. I wanted to move in March and I personally went to the agency to ask for the property to be advertised already in January. I was suggested that it was maybe to early. I asked again in February and they promised to advertise. "Advertising" meant putting an Announcement only on C&C website, with the wrong pictures and the wrong dates. It took them 10 days and several emails and calls to convince them to put the right pics (that I had to shoot myself) and an advert on Spareroom. Finally, I had to reduce the rent and pay the difference myself to find a replacement tenant on time!
Last surprise was at the checkout! C&C requests the property to be professionally cleaned, as I remembered the conditions of the property at my arrival, I have cleaned myself, helped by my girlfriend. We have carefully checked everything (inside and outside the furniture, carpets, walls, switches, bathroom ,shower, windows) guess what? I was charged for a professional cleaning! They found a tiny spider under a window (guess what, under the roof after a week of rain!) and they claimed that my carpet had been shampoo washed at my arrival, so I had to repeat the treatment. It was totally useless to remind them that the carpet was actually dirty at my arrival (my bad: always, always always take pictures!!). I tried to complain, obviously the claim that decisions about the deposit are up to the landlord and I didn't have any written or graphic evidence of my case. I eventually paid 2h of cleaning and that was it.
Last but not least, they manage to be quite impolite when talking on the phone and replying to emails. Never again with C&C

So generally they were quite good from the viewpoint of a tenant. At the beginning of tenancy there was some communication issues with people turning up unannounced or with very short notice, it was resolved quite quickly though and was smooth through the rest of the 2 years tenancy. That was until we left and we got slapped with £700+ in cleaning bills amongst other things. But along side this the claws and handbags came out. Myself and my housemates were accused of being vindictive and they were trying to guilt trip us out of our deposit. It took near enough 6 months to make it through the TDS dispute to finally get our deposit back.
Overall I didn't have much of a problem with c&c but things really turned nasty when we put forward our arguments to their outrageous claims on the deposit. Be aware of this if dealing with this agency and don't back down because they are trying to play the victim.

I think some of the previous comments that they were good at fixing/ covering the symptoms of problems rather than addressing the root cause seem fair. Apart from that, I know of someone who had to pay 3 months' rent upfront (I was told that he could have been asked to pay 6 months' rent upfront but C&C was being kind not to ask that) because he had been in a live in job for some years, though before he took up that live in job he had been a regular rent paying tenant of model behaviour. There are so many other letting agencies in Oxford and I really would recommend everyone to look and compare carefully before signing up with any letting agent.
If there was an option to give no star I would have taken up that option. There are so many other letting agents in Oxford so people should really look around.

Very unorganized, slow (days in between replies) and responses were rude. They booked in my viewing wrong (no evidence or confirmation email or anything) and hence messed up the whole day I had set aside to view properties- were incredibly unsympathetic about the whole thing. It was like I was a burden, and doing them a favour by attempting to use their services. Would recommend somewhere more professional and ‘with it’ such as Martin and Co- who actually know how to book people in , are quick, and you get the service which you expect as a customer- what a concept ! Special mention to Danielle for being Oxford’s worst estate agent. Never again. Such a joke. This estate agents have caused me so much havoc and stress from such a simple admin error. If they actually knew organization and valued customers by replying quickly and courteously - I wouldnt have to leave this review. It seems like arranging a viewing is always a risk with them. ‘Ethical Lettings’ makes me want to laugh.

C and c were our student lettings agents last year and they were really good. Any issues reported via email and we always had someone round within a few days at the most. Our shower drain was blocked somewhat when we moved in so there was always a big pool of water at the bottom filling up when showering. We explained how it was like this when moving in and they unblocked the drain without charge. The leaving/ deposit process went smoothly, and any deductions made were fair. Our representative from c and c Hannah was always lovely. Now we are with Enfields because of the area , and we really miss c and C, it's made us realise what a good letting agents should be like. (Fyi don't use Enfields!!)

Don't buy into the 'ethical' letting agents - invasive procesures (such as inspections every 6 months and recieving 'marks' on how youre doing) and overbearing landlord. Got my deposit back but not through the safe deposit scheme but through the new tenant which is pretty dodgy imo. £140 admin fee to sign contract. Wouldnt recommend.

We were very disappointed with the service we received from College and County. On arrival, the house was filthy! The carpets were dirty and had clearly not been hoovered as there were toe nails scattered throughout the bedroom and living room. The sofas were badly stained. The bathroom was extremely moldy as was the office room. The grass in the garden was above waist level. We contacted college and county who agreed to send a gardener and professional cleaners. Although we have no complaints with regards to the gardeners, the professional cleaners consisted of a man and a woman, a bottle of bleach and a toothbrush. After a two minute attempt at scrubbing the bathroom, they accepted defeat and the woman spent the rest of the time in the living room texting. We complained again and they agreed to repaint the ceiling in the bathroom but unfortunately this only masked the problem and the mould quickly came through again. In the end, we loaned a steam cleaner and cleaned both the carpets and the bathroom ourselves. To add to all this, the boiler was broken and took weeks of us phoning College and County and them sending people out to tell us nothing was wrong until finally they located the problem. Fast forward 2 years and they had the audacity to charge us £90 pounds at check out because there was rubbish INSIDE our wheelie bins which we had left outside for council collection in a few days times. We had left the house in a vastly improved state, spotlessly clean and with newly planted flowers in the garden. After nearly six months of exchanging emails we eventually got most of the money back. We spoke to friends to find they also had similar experiences at check in/out. All in all, a very poor service!

Well I can't claim to have found dealing with College and County particularly pleasant. Whenever I have tried to contact with a friendly question the responses I have found to be curt and dismissive as the member of staff with whom we deal attempts to deflect blame onto a third party or resort to technicalities.
Then again they probably perform quite well their intended service which is to provide a buffer for the landlord who can collect rent without having to deal with the issues of tenants, whilst themselves not actually taking on any responsibilities.
Personally the whole estate agent experience has left me feeling bitter about having to pay an extortionate amount to a landlord that I have never met as I have to deal directly with the agent, and having to pay agency fees to C&C who don't seem to be sympathetic to any of our concerns and would rather cover their own backs.
I hope that the whole monopoly is broken soon and more landlords will start letting their own properties and dealing personally with the tenants. After all the internet makes it so easy these days, why are agents still able to take a cut of the rent for doing nothing but posting some pictures on zoopla?

I rented through College & County for 3 and a half years in Oxford. They were always extremely professional and courteous. The regular communications and tenancy reports meant that both sides were aware of any relevant developments, and on the few occasions when I had need of contractor services they were very responsive. Penny Barrington dealt with most of my contact initially and was really on the ball. More recently my main contact has been Jade Woodburn-Rayner, who I'd especially like to commend for her efficient handling of a negotiation with the landlord about deposit amounts. I'd have no hesitation in using College & County again in future and have already recommended their services to new colleagues.

As student often I have found letting agents to be unhelpful and very negligent to their houses and the conditions they are allowing people to live in. College and county on the other hand has been the first agency to care when problems occur and try to solve the problem as quick as possible. All it takes is an email and they get back to you straight away, and they always make sure that any problem that occur will not end up resulting in money having to be spent by the tenants. Even the other day when I locked myself out at 8 o'clock in the evening they were quick to respond and got straight out to me which was great and saved me having to pay for a lock smith! Special thanks to Patrycja and David for helping me on this occasion. All of the college and county staff always seems so polite and helpful and I would recommend using them to anyone!

We had a horrible experience renting from this outfit, stay clear.
Hoover provided with live wire exposed, Cooker replaced and fitted with power cable running across worktop, council had to come in and force them to do work at which point they changed a previously agreed tenancy. Their band of bodge-it and scarper handy men turn up squirt a bit of expanding foam at the problem and bugger off, dumping the trade waste in your bin. Mostly they don’t have a clue, booking appointments and not turning up, doing nothing or messing it up unless you project manage it yourself. As noted in other reviews they will expect to rinse a few parting pounds of your deposit. Completely unreliable, untrustworthy bunch of Dickensian factotums with illusions of grandeur.

C&C took over the letting of the property I was renting midway through the tenancy and there was a marked improvement in the quality of service compared to the previous agents (Carter Jonas). For the majority of time there were straightforward tenant-agent processes with everything done smoothly, and on the rare occasion when there was an issue to resolve the staff were professional and appeared keen to balance the interests of the tenant with that of the landlord, which was much appreciated.

My girlfriend and I have recently rented a property in East Oxford, and the service we have received,
from the very start to the current time, has been excellent, in terms of friendliness, professionalism, and efficiency.
Purdey (Lettings Team) advised us from our initial visit to the property, and oversaw the whole process, right up to our moving in date. Purdey was both amiable and professional, always approachable, and able to offer advice and information (which for us, who were renting for the first time, was invaluable)
Upon moving in, Patrycja (Property Management Team) met us on our day of arrival, and as well as showing us around and going through the inventory, was both friendly and professional in answering any questions we had.
In addition, Patrycja organised a couple of maintenance jobs in a timely manner, and this work was completed both promptly, and to our total satisfaction.
We look forward to our time In Oxford, and it is reassuring to know College and County are there to support us throughout.

They do not try to make you pay some "extra charges" (as some others do). Overall, I am happy with them. The office is conveniently located and I can always pop in if I have some problem. As tenants we have so far been very impressed by College & County: the team are friendly, efficient, and attentive. Any issues have been responded to and dealt with promptly and cheerfully. Communication is excellent: the use of various online media in addition to telephone contact means that we have consistently been kept fully informed about any maintenance or other issues in the building. The fees and procedures were reasonable and clearly explained: their policy of no renewal fees certainly distinguishes College & County from other letting agents! Overall we feel that we have been well respected as tenants (often one feels that other letting agents only have respect for their landlords) and that we have built-up a good relationship with the team. We have renewed our tenancy with them twice now and would thoroughly recommend them.

We have been renting a property managed by College & County for the past 9 months. Their initial fees were reasonable, we thought, compared to other letting agencies. Their service has been excellent. Whenever there is an issue with the property they are quick to repair it and have also supported us in requesting custom modifications (e.g. fitting bicycle locks to the outside of the property). Overall, we find them reasonable and responsive and are happy to continue renting properties from them.

A highly professional experience overall - the initial stages (viewing, booking deposit, inventory checks, move in etc) were well explained and well executed. Maintenance has been fine in the 7 months I've been there so far. There were small issues with the washing machine and furniture which were looked after. They replaced a shower when it stopped working, and gave us new chairs when the old ones became too rickety. Small repairs are promptly looked after. I don't know what the renewal/leaving/deposit refund process is like as I haven't experienced that yet, but I hope it will continue to be smooth. The only unusual (for me, but maybe it is an oxford thing) thing for me has been the 3 monthly visits to see if the property is being kept clean/well looked after. I have no problem with this as such (we do keep it clean/neat), but it does seem slightly intrusive to have checks so often. I suppose they deal with a lot of students and this way they can keep an eye on a property so it doesn't deteriorate if not looked after.
UPDATE: (to manager's response below). Thanks for asking your property management team to get in touch. She explained clearly that the checks are not 3 monthly as I had assumed.

I have been a tenant in a College & County house for the last year and a half.
Overall, I have been very impressed with the conduct of C&C. From initial contact to viewing the house, to paperwork to general communication C&C have been very good. We have extended with them twice, and due to circumstances these extensions were not possible for the full year. However C&C have been very flexible and, together with the landlord, have been incredible helpful with our renewals (and saved us a lot of hardship if they had have been unable to help!).
Use of facebook, emails, telephone and walk ins we have been able to contact C&C (and them contact us) with relative ease and responses for the most part have been quick.
From what I have seen and heard, I believe that the C&C's agencies fees are pretty good for the Oxford area, and they have been particularly generous with the renewals we have gone through.
In terms of contractors and repairs, we have been informed well in advance of any works that need to be done. Repairs and issues that we have highlighted have been responded to quickly, although in one case (due to contractor ill-health) repair commenced a lot later than we would have liked. But in all other cases it has been carried out in a very timely fashion.
Apart from the initial occasional inspection (to check we were not destroying the house) C&C have left us to it. On their part, I get the impression they build up a trust of the tenants based on early observations and communication for which my housemates and I are very grateful for.
Overall, impressed. And my hope is this will continue through the rest of the tenancy and into end of contract proceedings when they come about.

During the year college and county were acceptable, they replaced our oven after we told them a few times that the ignition was broken making it dangerous to light. this was appreciated.
Our issues came when leaving the property, first of all they were unwilling to change the date or even the time of the check out appointment so that one of the tenants was able to get there.
Then they initially tried to deduct an unreasonable amount from the deposit. they claimed things were missing, when they were never present. In fairness to them when we appealed against this they backed down and returned some of the deposit.

I've been with College & County for three years as tenant. During these three years, the quality of service I've received from this agency has ranged from pleasant, understanding and flexible to downright incompetent.
Pros:
* They are a friendly bunch, and are generally easy to reach when you have problems.
* They are usually on the ball when you call them to sort out payments, etc.
* The have been flexible in the past on issues relating to contract renewals, notable by waiving admin fees.
Cons:
* They will often send slightly incompetent contractors, not follow up on shoddy jobs, or not give the contractor the info needed (i.e. half of what was meant to be repaired was repaired).
* They will often forget to tell tenant details of contractor's visits. More than once have I had electricians come and shut off electricity throughout the house when we were told they were just coming to check an alarm or something. Not so pleasant when you're working from home.
* As far as lettings agencies in Oxford go, the sign-up fees are a little steep.
If the above points were where the story ends, this firm deserves a solid 4 star review. However, please see below.
* MOST IMPORTANTLY: these people do NOT understand the landlord tenant act. The contract you sign entitles you to sublet your room subject to the landlord's approval, which will not be unreasonable withheld. C&C claim that this constitutes a change in tenancy agreement (which it does not, under the act) and that the sublettee is effectively a new tenant. They therefore impose obscene charges, and ignore any communication pointing out that they are incorrect. This effectively prevents you from exercising your right to sublet.
Overall, probably not the worst lettings agency in Oxford, but the incidents in the last year have left a sour taste in my moth and an overall bad impression of what I used to think was, and probably used to be, a decent lettings agency.
The agency have been in contact with me over the contents of this review, and state that they will look into improving some of the issues presented therein. They maintain their position on the issue of the sublet fee. Caveat emptor if you think you'll need this capability, which is offered by nearby agencies.

As a tenant, I've been really impressed with College and County: my husband and I just moved into a new property and the service has been professional and quick. I especially appreciated the clear explanation of costs and process (this is often where other agencies go so wrong). They've been friendly and fair - essential skills for a housing agency - and there's been answers for every question I sent through. So far, so great! I'm really happy we've switched into a property with C&C.
UPDATE: Feb 8, 2013. It's been one year since moving into our property. First, I must say, I love my new home. Things have been really smooth since we moved in. A few issues with our heating/gas were fixed with speed and the service was of high quality. There were a few minor issues where engineers were sent to the house without previous notice, but all-in-all, I'm still quite happy with C&C and the support they've provided.
