We have used Carter Jonas when we sold twice in Oxford over the last couple of years and are also using them again to purchase a property. We have always been impressed with their very professional yet warm and friendly attitude. They are great and keeping in touch at every step of the way, and offering advice throughout. We could not recommend them highly enough!
I wish Google allowed zero stars because this is what this agency deserves. Very slow with everything (the only exception is collecting money from you!), constantly passing emails to various members of staff, and in the end no one gives a clear answer to your question. When things get tight because they have procrastinated so much, of course it is the tenant's fault, and you end up with no flat and no reimbursement for the fee that you have paid. Additionally, they seem to charge tenants for all sorts of things, and are very unhelpful when it comes to explaining the contract.
Definitely would not recommend.
PS All the five star reviews here seem to have been written around the same time and are quite similar in style. Suspicious, isn't it?
Michael Trueman and the team were great throughout the sale of my house. In my previous experiences with selling via estate agents I found that enthusiasm for marketing waned after the first month or so - not so with Chancellors Botley - they never took their eye off the ball and kept up the same level of effort and communication throughout all the time my property was on the market. I was also impressed with Nicole Puckett (Sales Progression Advisor) who kept on the case between offer and completion and made sure there were no unnecessary delays. Highly recommended.
The day after the 2016 EU referendum, these guys called my muslim neighbour and asked, "are you looking to sell your house, in light of recent events?"
At best: tactless. At worst: discriminatory and profiteering.
Very helpful and friendly! Fantastic service and good communication. Thank you!
Pains me to give this lot 1 star! I registered with them a year ago. They’ve never contacted me with any potential jobs. I think they’re the type of agency who care about a certain profession/companies/people. Your cv has to be gold for this lot to find you something. There are other agencies in Oxford who are much more efficient, find you jobs and stay in contact. You don’t even get spam emails from this lot, that’s how s**t they are. Other agencies send you emails regarding progression, training, cv & interview tops. This place is overrated!!
Excellent, they were very speedy, professional and reasonably priced. They offered really good opinion throughout the process from listing to sale and it always worked out as good advice. I would thoroughly recommend.
I listed a property with Chamberlain Evans in 2014 after comparing the services offered by 3-4 of the more established estate agents in Oxford. Chamberlain Evans offered the best rate and were by far the most consistently professional, personable, responsive and honest. For personal reasons I ended up deciding not to sell, but I also viewed numerous properties with practically all the estate agents in Oxford - and I can highly recommend Chamberlain Evans as my top choice. In an industry typically characterised by endless, pushy patter from young men (and women) with little experience looking for a quick sale, Richard Evans was refreshingly knowledgeable, experienced, down-to-earth, trustworthy, helpful and genuine. A couple sets of friends who have sold/purchased their properties with them also echo my positive experiences and verdict. If I were looking to sell or buy again, I would definitely approach Chamberlain Evans first.
Jordan Baskerville has been extremely helpful in his advice and is keeping us us informed at every stage as our sale proceeds and arranging appointments
Unhelpful and neglectful.
I rented a room in North Oxford through Martin & Co. When moving into the property, the room my landlord and I had signed a contract over was not yet available because the ceiling needed to be painted (something I was assured would be completed prior to the start of my tenancy)... Each week I was told I would be able to move into my contracted room at the end of that week - I stayed in a room half the size, living out of a suitcase for 5 weeks before I was finally able to move into the correct room, even having offered to paint the ceiling myself a number of times. Martin & Co did nothing apart from chase me for my full rent for this month while I was still waiting to move in to the correct room. I was since offered some compensation by the landlady who then did not pay it in full so I had to deduct the remaining balance from my rent payment for the next month and was again chased by the letting agent who did nothing to support their tenant while not receiving the room I had paid for.
I have since moved out of the property 5 weeks ago and I am still waiting for my security deposit to be reimbursed because of a cleaning fee which was not agreed upon. Upon questioning the fee because I left the room in a pristine condition, it was suggested that the fee is justified because I am not being charged for the blinds which were broken since before I moved into the room. This suggestion has been later dropped, however the 3 week long email chain is ongoing and so is my wait for an explanation as to what cleaning was actually required and the wait for my deposit.
I would strongly discourage anyone that is thinking of renting through Martin & Co from doing so. I am sure there must be alternative options where you are guaranteed to get the room you pay for and they won't hold your security deposit ransom over fictitious cleaning charges.
We used Scott Fraser for the sale of our house in Cowley. The marketing materials looked great and were produced extremely quickly which was instrumental in getting an asking price offer within a week. Adam Sayers was extremely professional and knowledgeable and was of great assistance throughout the sale. We would highly recommend.
As a tenant i would not be recommending them. After all the fees I have paid to them I would expect a more speedy service from them. The other days we has a plumping issue -there was some irritating and constant noise coming out of the bathroom plumbing- and it took them a week to have someone come and have a look at it. A sleepless week that was.
