Telephoned with enquiry re allowing dogs at two specific properties showing as available to rent. The elderly sounding lady answering was nice enough, but presented as a little 'vacant' (sorry) and unsure of what she was doing. I was promised a call back when the question had been posed with the respective owners. No call back. I phoned again to chase this up some days later. The first two attempted calls were silent... with the third call I received a hesitant 'hello' from the very distinct voice of this elderly sounding lady.., before the phone was immediately 'hung up again. Positives: the staff are, on the whole professional and obliging. The property was reasonably well managed.
Negatives:
They do initiate repairs when required but they also appear to have a patrician attitude towards tenants, one in which the landlord can do no wrong and the tenant is a low life who can be bullied.
Like many letting agents they continue to use Short Assured Tenancy Agreements to manage lets on large, unfurnished properties for families. Caveat Emptor - this means that you have no security of tenure and can be forced to move, at 8 weeks notice, at the landlord's discretion. The government is currently looking into this as it considers reforming the rental sector, there is clearly a requirement to address this especially with families due to school catchment areas and the huge disruption caused by moving. Belvoir are not alone in this but it is disappointing that they are not taking a lead in addressing this issue. We requested security of tenure from this agency by requesting we move to a 3 year lease, this was ignored and, indeed, within a month of asking, our tenancy was terminated by the landlord with 10 weeks notice to move. If you are going to rent a property - ensure you secure a 3 year lease or question the landlord's motivation in offering a 6 month one.
Specifically Belvoir Tynedale: The owner, can be very acerbic I constructively suggest that he may wish to consider anger management or a career change. Over the course of the three year period we rented a property through this company, there were two incidents which, had they been handled more sensitively by the owner, could have been resolved quickly and amicably. Instead, the course they chose was confrontational, uncompromising and aggressive.... Read more
