If you’re considering buying a new build from Odyssey Montreux, here’s a cautionary tale from my experience. I was drawn to a top-floor one-bedroom unit in August, made an offer, and put down a £2000 reservation fund, which they said was refundable if the sale fell through. Unfortunately, my property’s buyer backed out last minute, and when I sought a refund, I was initially promised £500 back. After some communication with the head agent, I was then offered only £1000 back. Apparently the remaining £1000 went towards their solicitor fees, which didn’t make any sense because they then stated that if I wanted to buy again, they’d retain that same £1000 as a reserve deposit. Despite feeling pressured and trusting the sales representative, it’s essential to thoroughly review contracts before signing when dealing with new builds. The market for such properties is slow, so don’t succumb to pressure. Also, be prepared for frequent contact from the sales team post-agreement. They’re ultimately there to sell and make commission.
