The Laurels is a lovely, kind caring care home with a family feel. All it takes is a call to the manager to discuss any issues and they are dealt with immediately. This is a very difficult time for us all but talking things through really helps... Read more

My Wife made an appointment to visit her friend in the Laurels for today. Monday 10/05/21 at 11.00am she was told when she rang she had been booked in for this time. When we arrived my wife was left outside in th rain for 10 minutes. To then be told she wasn’t booked in and couldn’t come in. She was also told that our friend had already got 2 visitors. And could she wait half an hour. We have found out from the family she did not have a visitor today after all. (So we were lied to by this member of staff) I ask myself why. What are they hiding from the outside world. This stinks in my opinion.We have heard quite a few stories about the Laurels and never really believed them. But after our experience today I am beginning to believe all th bad reports about this place. It’s very slack. Ps a very good friend of ours who is the nursing sister at another care home did warn us about this place. It has a very bad name apparently. This was our first dealing with the place. Not happy about it at all. The management don’t seem to be managing at all. So now our friend who is 94 yrs olde never got her visit today she will have been extremely disappointed. (That’s if we were told the truth by the man who took my wife’s booking and he let her know my wife was coming) I am disgusted by our experience today of this place. Lied to twice by a member of staff. Turned away after travelling to visit. Something is rotten at the Laurels ????????????... Read more

My father was discharged from hospital into a care home that had capacity to take him because, in effect, he was bed blocking. I did not want him to stay at The Laurels because it was 30 miles from my home. In time I grew grateful that he was placed at The Laurels even though I could not visit as often as I would have liked. The staff, from domestics, HCA’s to management were unfailingly kind to him and myself. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble to sort out. My father was a very ill man when he arrived but seemed happy in the care of The Laurels for the few months that he was there. However in the latter part of his stay he was admitted to A and E several times and it was inevitable that the end was near. Staff liaised with the local GP to organise end of life care and my father passed away peacefully and pain free. I work in A and E at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. One of my colleagues said she used to work in a care home that was like a Five star hotel. She said the surroundings were absolutely fantastic but none of the staff gave a sh*t about the care of the “inmates” so she left. My view of The Laurels is that the care is good and the surroundings are “comfortable” like a favourite armchair. I have to admit I have not seen all of the facilities but what I have seen are good. Not luxurious but good. I suggest you actually read the CQC report to see how difficult it is to get a perfect report. The thing to bear in mind is that care homes with a good report may not get an inspection for four or five years. Those with a “needs improvement” report get them regularly. A care home near me with a previous good CQC report hit the headlines for not having a manager and supposedly not having enough food to feed the residents. If it fails CQC again it will be closed. It’s run by a large company My limited experience of The Laurels is I was happy for my father to be there. Go and have a look yourself. Speak to the staff and make your own mind up.... Read more

I visited the home with my Dog Wispa for Pat a Pet morning for the residents arranged by the New Activities Co-ordinator. The Activities Co-ordinator engaged well with the residents, was knowlagable of their individual needs and residents where truly happy to see her. The Manager was welcoming, approachable and showed interest in what I was doing for the residents. All staff where friendly and helpful. Residents seemed very happy and well looked after....
