When I first moved to the area in 2003 with my girlfriend, I was looking for somewhere to stay. The first flat that Martyn Russell showed me was very unimpressive, to say the least. I told him our objections to it, and he listened, and I have to be honest, at that point I wasn't feeling very optimistic. A few days later he called back with another property to look at. We went along, not really expecting much, but the house that he showed us was perfect in every way. He had done an exemplary job at listening to our feedback and gauging what kind of house we wanted to live in.
We moved in and enjoyed living there until a change in our situation (starting a family, wanting to get on the property ladder) meant it was no longer the right place for us. I still have fond memories of that house and our experience with Martyn to this day, and smile whenever we drive past their offices.
BEWARE!! My daughter rented a student house off this agent and I have to say I have never dealt with a more unprofessional outfit. There were a catalogues of problems throughout her tenancy. To name but a few, the house was filthy, the carpets were disgusting, one room wasn't painted as requested, microwave didn't work, washing machine didn't work, there was no desk in one of the rooms as promised, there was an old broken TV in the living room. The electrical socket in my daughter's bedroom was hanging off the wall ( there was only one), when she plugged her charger in she got a slight electrical shock. After continued promises from the agent to put these things right, nothing seemed to happen. Which is when I got involved. I have to say Dawn at this agent desperately needs some customer service training, I found her rude and obnoxious, enough said!! Anyway, with a very lot of arguing we did managed to get most things sorted, evan if we had to drive down from Leeds to clean the carpets and sort the electrics out. At the end of her tenancy she got a letter to say the house needed cleaning and recommended a cleaner, we paid for the cleaner to come round and do her stuff, the thought being we didn't want to lose any deposit. How wrong we were! They took off £100 off each girl as they said it wasn't clean enough, bit of a joke considering what state the house was in 12 months earlier. Obviously we disputed this, especially as they had recommended the cleaner. Thankfully the whole debacle is over with now, but please be very aware when you rent a house from this company. If I knew how bad they were we would have stayed well clear of them. If you are unfortunate to have rented a house with them, please just document every bit of correspondence with them. Good luck!
Great experience, to be honest from the start Oli been amazing, really attentive and gave his all to ensure we achieved what we wanted. The team worked continuously and cared for our needs. Always updating and going that extra mile. Would highly recommend them and above all thank you Oli for going above and beyond.
I'll keep this short as I could write a book on how bad this lot are but don't waste your time if you are looking to sell your house I would recommend looking elsewhere! Mostly shockingly they verbally give you a quote price for selling your house at the start then triple the price at the end of it denying they had given the price at the start. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
In response to your reply - LIES LIES LIES!!!!!!!!!! Nice try covering up your mistakes but rather than you trying to resolve the problems here, it just proves my point that you'd rather lie about not having dealt with me in the past which was only a few months ago! Just look at all your other complaints it says it all really!! Even more reason to AVOID THIS MUPPET SHOW!!

I would highly recommend all the services provided by Romans Caversham office. Jess Glynn did a great job finding the right flat for us and was of most help when we had to find a new tenant when we sadly had to leave our apartment early due to a job relocation. Thank you so so much for all your great work.
We booked a viewing for a property 5 days in advance. Were told we would receive a confirmation. Never did. Placed a follow up call to confirm reservation. And yet we still never received a confirmation. On the day of the viewing, we called repeatedly and kept getting put through to the main office as the phone in the Caversham office was not getting picked up. The main office emailed the letting agents 4 times, but we never got a response. No one had a phone number for the agents?
We traveled an hour to Reading, stopped by the office to be told that all of the agents were showing properties. We offered to wait around in the city, but we never got a call back. Here we were, cash in hand, ready to sign a lease on a flat, but no one would return our call. We will now almost definitely not be using Romans for our rentals or our future house purchase. If they could not show us the flat, they should have told us that when we initially made the call. Or at least told us before we had to travel that far.
Hopefully someone from that company will explain why this happened.
I have been renting through Prospect for nearly two years and found the staff amenable, knowledgeable and responsive.
I am currently going through a renewal and so far the process is smooth with questions being answered quickly and requests being met with a "smile". Having used lettings agents on and off for 15 years these are definitely one of the better ones.
Very rude and unhelpful agency. They charge the highest possible fee to sell your property and they don't offer any valid reason to justify it. You will get lots of usual salesperson cliches from them which means absolutely nothing.
This review is specially for our property manager Jane Matthews who is always been very helpful in almost any situations for the past year and half that I have been with Davis Tate - Reading branch. There have been some emergency repairs needed in the flat and even with the short notices from my side Jane have managed to sort it out in quickly and efficient way. Overall 5 star service. Extremely unreliable, unprofessional and ineffective in everything that they do from lettings to maintenance. To say working with them has been a disappointment is an understatement. Communication lacks, solutions to issues lack, and basic common sense lacks among every person I've worked with there. I have worked with many individuals because turnover seems to be very high in their company as well, which is also a very clear indicator of how well the business is performing or how engaged their reps are.
