Anniversary Dinner for 2
Service was impeccable, food was fantastic
We had:
Sourdough (best I've ever had)
Burrata
Pear soup
Sirloin steak, pepper sauce and marrow.
Duck breast (very tasty)
Lemon cheesecake
Salted caramel tart (highlight)
Truffles
Salted caramel tart was incredible, took a minute or so to go through the full flavour profile which I loved.
Would have been 5 stars but the medium rare steak was very rare so we couldn't share. I still eat it happily and it was even taken off the bill so very happy ending.
I will go again... Read more

Amazing experience on Saturday here. We had the Taster menu (with champagne and oysters) and the whole meal was a journey in flavour. Our favourites were the sea bream with heritage carrot and the venison with shallots, although every dish gave a wow factor. The service was exceptional- never too much, yet always attentive and the general vibe of the building left us both very happy. Cant wait to go back.... Read more

Marcus Wareing's addition to the Renaissance is both plush and relaxed equally.
High quality service as you'd expect from restaurants of this ilk and it didn't disappoint. Amazing staff, full COVID measures in place and we felt very safe and distanced from other diners but still managed to keep the opulent ambience.
Food was incredible at every stage and they were able to accommodate our dietary requirements.
The soup was delicious and i enjoyed the lamb croquettes. The sourdough is a delicious and generous portion of 8 slices!
Steak was served with a very good green peppercorn sauce and the sea bream with lobster sauce (with extra lobster meat) was a stand out dish.
If you love bone marrow, you are in for a treat, one of the few places that get it right, I'm still thinking about mine a few days later.
All of the desserts looked great and the salted caramel tart and espresso ice were amazing.
Staff were faultless.

Visited with my Wife on a Tuesday evening in August. Grand dining room, with Victorian period feel, and pleasantly busy. Food was fantastic. Both had the reasonably priced set menu, 3 courses and a cocktail, which we really enjoyed. Staff were friendly and professional, and Covid measures very good, but not so as to be off-putting. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Bill for three courses, a cocktail, a bottle of wine and two side dishes was £110, helped by £20.00 eat out to help out discount. Best value experience I've had in years. Thanks!... Read more

I won’t bother going into details about the food, but the service at the start of our meal was very disappointing. We made a reservation for the Christmas day dinner at 6pm. It seemed like something went wrong from our check in. We got there on time but they made us wait 15 minutes to set up our table. We had to ask for our coats to be checked in because no one offered.
When we got to our seats, it seemed that no server was assigned to our table. We sat for 15 minutes without anyone attending to us and did not even receive the set menu. The table beside us had come in later and was being taken care of. I actually had to ask for the menu myself from someone serving drinks. By 6:40, we still had no one taking care of our table. We stopped a server to inform him of the situation and only then he made sure that our table was not completely invisible. I appreciate that he took care of this and gave us complementary glasses of champagne to apologize but it was frustrating and extremely disappointing to experience this for a special Christmas dinner. It’s not so nice to reserve a 5 course dinner with prepayment only to find yourself asking for service after being ignored for 40 minutes.... Read more

Lovely dining room and delightful bars with welcoming and friendly reception staff. Not so good when we got into the dining room. Had to ask for the set menu which wasn’t initially offered and then ask for the glass of cava included with it.
The set menu seems like a good deal but lots of supplements and additional costs for side orders. The sea bream came with Jerusalem artichokes which were full of substantial pieces of grit. When the waiter was alerted to this he didn’t offer to replace the main course or any reduction in cost. We were instead offered additional puddings which no one wanted as puddings were already included.
Its a shame as we liked the venue but I doubt we would eat here again as we all value our teeth.... Read more

This is one of those places that makes you feel good just by being there!
The beautiful & classic interior is breathtaking inside the restaurant and even as you go to the toilets pass the grand stairway and ceilings of the Renaissance hotel in which it is situated.

My husband and I came here with our seven year old daughter to celebrate a special occasion. I was AMAZED by the kindness and attention they showed my daughter in particular and how welcome they made us feel, despite it being a restaurant full of adults. They gave us a special desert for free and as we were leaving handed my daughter some chocolate truffles as well. They made sure she had colouring pens and a free colouring book to colour in and were just so nice to her, they treated her almost like she was a celebrity or something. It was just wonderful and so, so rare to go to a fancy London restaurant with a child and feel so welcome.
The food was delicious and I would highly recommend the chocolate nougat desert but the service and the atmosphere was what made this so special and memorable a visit. Wish I could give more than 5 stars and we will definitely be back.... Read more

Oh so lovely this one. Definitely recommend for drinks if you want a quiet place to converse whether it’s a catch up with friends or a causal romantic date. It’s right in the middle of St Pancreas so on a rainy or cold winter night, it’s a night out but you don’t need to be outdoors. I have been a few times anyway. Bestowing Victorian style and beautiful architecture, when you step into The Gilbert Scott and Georges Bar you feel a sense of awe. Unfortunately the awe fizzled as soon as the set menu became reality, out of 16 guests, everyone thought the food was at best average, and had far more elements of a Summer menu than Winter, offering pollock and salads. The bar staff were also overwhelmed, it took over 15 minutes for three guests to be served (and even offered) drinks at the private table, right in front of the bar. Perhaps on a quieter evening and with smaller groups, the experience would be more pleasant.... Read more

Had a meal for 4 here last night and whilst the ambience and setting is lovely we were dreadfully disappointed with the food. Starters were ‘absolutely average’ the crab salad being mostly gem lettuce with a sprinkling of crab was £15. Some profit on lettuce! The mains arrived and all four meals were COLD and this extended to the additional veg orders too. Very disappointing. Waitress accepted that they were cold and they did then send a hot meal replacement. Does beg the question how does a top end restaurant with top end prices allow a meal (well all 4 actually) to go out cold?
Overall disappointing as this was for a special occasion being uncles 70th birthday but feel quite cheated at £350 bill. Won’t be going again in any hurry. Don’t often review but felt I had to on this occasion so as to hope that Restaurant will improve for next customers.... Read more

The restaurant is spectacular with a relaxed, intimate atmosphere with low light and jazz music that combines to enhance the moment. If I had to repeat the occasion I would do so with pleasure. The service was excellent, every time we had empty glasses, and without asking, they were full again thanks to the kindness of the waiters, attentive to our movements or gestures, something that we appreciated very much.
I recommend The Gilbert Scott in London for any event, even if just to celebrate life itself. To summarise, each of us spent around 65 GBP, having asked for additional items. Perhaps we could have ordered more, but what we chose was more than enough for this occasion.... Read more

After posting the negative review below on Google I got a phone call from the restaurant, offering to pay me back for the Bloody Mary that I was charged "in error". Actually I am quite impressed, so am happy to amend my previous 1 star review to 4 stars. The Gilbert Scott dining room is beautiful and worth the price of the meal alone.
I had a business lunch earlier in the week for 3 people. I paid, it was not on an expense account. We each had the £30 set menu, no wine, 2 bottles of mineral water and coffee. The bill was £147, which I paid. Examining the bill later I find that they have slipped in a £13.50 Bloody Mary. The oldest trick in the book. Very annoyed I fell for it, be sure to check your own bill. To be clear I believe that this was intentional, and, let's face it, it worked.
The Gilbert Scott restaurant itself is beautiful, and the food decent but unexceptional.... Read more

Please note - this is a review of the bar only (having read the reviews of the restaurant it feels like it deserves a different rating). I would say that Sir Gilbert Scott bar is as Victorian as it gets in London - completely over the top, almost Russian in its unapologetic splendour (this complement comes from a Russian). So if you’re up for some old style chic - this is your place. Cocktails are wonderful, snack food is not cheap, but certainly good value for money. Thanks! We’ll be back once again and again.... Well, before things went wrong, this place was heading for a 3-star review. The food was above average, but not special. The service was sub par for the location and money.
Then, we saw a mouse crawling below our feet. And it was hanging out there a while. This killed the appetite a bit, and we were ready to leave. At that point, we had consumed two cocktails and two starters. The waiter was sorry and took two mains off the bill, but we still paid £150 without having eaten most of the things we ordered. I reached out to the restaurant and haven't heard back.
It's a shame. The location is fantastic, and we were really looking forward to this Valentine's Day dinner.
UPDATE: The manager reached out to me two days later, was very apologetic, refunded our entire meal, and ensured us that the rodent has been dealt with. I appreciate the gesture, and I'll adjust my review accordingly. Glad to see that they dealt with this promptly.... Read more

Review of the bar area:
Amazing space, lavishly decorated. But they didn’t have one of the wines on their list and forgot to bring our bill, which isn’t great when the drinks are so expensive. An impressive location and interior but an underwhelming dining experience. The food was mostly decent, though only occasionally exceptional, but the waiting staff, with one solitary exception, were inattentive and lacking, and while the wine list looked fine, the beer selection was poor - so much so that I didn't bother. Why do so many high-end restaurants treat beer so casually? Alas, the cocktail I had instead was far too sweet. To round it off we had the cheese platter, despite the lack of wheat-free crackers to go with it. Is it really so difficult to cater to such basic (gluten intolerant) dietary requirements; to have a packet of oatcakes in the larder at the very least? Infuriating and uninspiring.... Read more

I was really excited to be going to Gilbert Scott. This was a special occasion and wanted to celebrate in style. 5/6 of us decided to try the roast beef, veg and Yorkshire pudding was lovely, however the star of the dish (beef) was not great at all. The roast beef was very chewy and difficult to eat. This was the case for all of us. It is not often I feel the need to complain, however on this occasion I gave the feedback to the waiter. He did apologise, and offered all the party a glass of peach schnapps. We thought this was a nice gesture at the time until we realised they offered all tables this at the ends of the meal.
We also ordered tea and coffee at the end of the meal, which didn’t arrive with or after the desserts. We decided to cancel the drinks and left to go and have a coffee next door in the nearby pub.

Booked for 6 people on Sunday morning to have a dinner in the evening (6.30pm). Due to unforeseen circumstances, we wanted to cancel the reservation as we would not have made our train on time (8.30pm). However, due to their policy, the restaurant wanted to charge us £25 per head. I would have understood if the restaurant was fully booked but that was clearly not the case as a number of tables had remained empty whilst we (eventually) had dinner there. Anyway, we eventually managed to get to the restaurant at 7.15pm and kindly asked if the chef could prepare the food quickly as we were late - we still had to wait 40mn to get our dishes, which we had to devour in 5mn to make sure to catch our train. The food was great, but I wished the restaurant had been more understanding of our situation. The manager present on that night was nice and tried to be helpful - he even deducted the service charge by himself, which we appreciated. However, we did not enjoy the meals properly. I understand that we were late, but a bit more flexibility from the restaurant would have been appreciated. I love the food but I probably won't come again.... Read more

My uncles kindly booked a table for 12 for my mother's 80th birthday party. The restaurant told them that because we were 'so many' they needed us to choose off a set menu and to let them know in advance. My uncles duly got all the guests to choose and then confirmed to the restaurant all of our choices. The next thing we hear is that they have decided to change the menu and they wanted us to choose all over again. My poor uncle, who is my mothers older brother who is no spring chicken himself finds that he has to repeat what we already thought was a pretty dictatorial exercise. 12 people for lunch midweek should surely be something a restaurant can cope with without having to resort to a brief set menu (2-3 choices only). It seems to me that this is a place where the client is not considered all that important. I am embarrassed on behalf of my elderly uncles who only wanted to treat their sister and who now find themselves in an administrative nightmare.
UPDATE
The manager sorted out the chef and the menus were as originally planned. The food was delicious and the ambience and location are great. We did have to wait 30 minutes after we were sat at our table (1pm) for a waiter to come up and say the food would be with us in 15 minutes or would we prefer to wait a bit longer! We all felt that a 45 minute wait for food was quite a long time already, especially as we'd been asked to pre-order! Other than that it was a great place for a celebration and they are obviously aware that the seating is very low to the table as they arrived unprompted after we'd sat down with extra cushions which were offered around!... Great white cloth dining experience. The food is good and live piano music in the background adds a nice touch. My favorite on the menu was bone marrow with duck hearts, hope it is still on the menu when I come back!... Read more

What can I say? The draw of the name and the surroundings did not live up to the expectation. The food is nothing special, and for the price paid, I am expecting near perfection. The so-called truffle sauce is just a jus with the no discernible taste of truffles, the steak was mediocre, and the chips undercooked. Why give me bone marrow, when it adds nothing to the taste? Gimmicky to say the least. And the service, it could be more personal. I would rather take the Wolseley or Holborn Dining Room any day. The Booking Office in the same hotel has better food.
With an affirmation from Marcus Wareing, this establishment needs to shape up because it certainly has potential for greatness.... Read more

Marvellous food, bit the atmosphere is a little hoity-toity. The cocktail bar next door is much better!... Read more

On the plus side, the ambience is good. The building is beautiful and the dining room has much to draw the eye. It's a lovely place for dinner. On the other hand, while the food is perfectly fine it doesn't come close to justifying the price tag. Menu prices don't include VAT and with the 12.5% service charge it becomes impossible to recommend.
That said, we didn't pay the service charge because the wait staff didn't deserve it. We were left waiting for the side to our main course and getting additional glasses of wine took far too long. We won't be returning.... Read more

I was so looking forward to taking my sister here for her birthday but it didn't live up to expectations. The food was just average, my sister's dish was disappointing and for the money we paid definitely not value for money. The staff were lovely and it was great to see such a beautiful building but we won't be back.... Read more

Very disappointing! This is not a cheap restaurant and whilst the food was decent (ive had better and more interesting but i have no complaints) the service was so terrible it did mar the evening quite a lot. I genuinely don't care much about service at restaurants - as long as its not too slow and miserable then that's good enough for me but it was very much both of these. When we arrived we were told to wait in the bar until a table was available except no one ever came to get us, when we did sit down the wait both to order food and to receive it was absolutely interminable, I was given the wrong menu (I was going for the set) and was given a sarcastic response when I pointed out the error, I was also given a sarcastic response when I asked for tap water. I drank my glass within five minutes and didn't get a single refill the whole evening (yes I get it you don't make any money off tap water!). I asked for the bill to come with a desert as it was late and i had hoped to be out of there an hour earlier but did it come with it! No it did not.
In conclusion, for me there are restaurants that are a labour of love where you can clearly see that the people running it want to give people as good an experience as they can and then there are restaurants where its a business pure and simple, they've got the location and the name chef and that's good enough for them.... Went here on a Sunday evening at the tail end of a birthday weekend. The staff here were fantastic. My girlfriend and I had wine and beers at the bar with lots of popcorn. The service was truly personal, engaging conversation and nothing too much trouble. We came here after a terrible experience in mayfair and this was a beautiful setting. So much care taken making cocktails and a pleasure to watch the bar craft. Thank you so much.... Read more

Lovely setting and impressive room and features but the menu and service were a little underwhelming. Food tasted great and presented well, the staff were polite and friendly if a little distracted or rushed. Just expected more from a Marcus Wareing restaurant and for this price. Have had much more impressive and memorable experiences for less at restaurants without a famous chef attached to it. ... Read more

Gorgeous historical restaurant. The food is tasty but a bit overpriced, we tasted the "corpse revival and the 1871" cocktails and they are really good. For food the gnocchi with mushrooms is a good option. They have a really good piano player.... Read more

We paid 218 pounds for two, for a below par dinner. Definitely expected something special from a restaurant with Marcus Warings name.
The starter and desserts were miniscule and poor to average.
The service was good and the room was beautifully restored.
Adding 30% vat on the bill with 12.5 % service certainly inflated the price.
I would not recommend it . A better dinner could be had for 50% less.... Read more
