Excellent market surrounded by a good selection of High Street shopping. Close to Bus station.
Lovely fresh produce from bread cakes meat and fish. Everything you could wish for in a covered market. Great selection of food to choose from with a bar too.
I will be returning to this friendly Market.

So many great market stalls here. So many stalls with so many great owners. Plenty of options to choose from and plenty of goodies to be had. Most stalls are reasonably priced and most stalls are happy for the custom. I always try to spend that little bit extra on the upstairs stalls just because they don't see as much through traffic. Would recommend visiting if you need almost anything, food court upstairs also has so many great options. Highly recommend visiting if you love a good shop.

Wish We had one where we live.
It has everything. No need to go to a supermarket when you have this.
Butchers, bakers, toy shops, sweet shops. It has it all.

Some decent stalls but not a patch on the old Barnsley Market. It seems to have lost its soul somewhere along the way. A huge shame as the Market used to be famously good .

Barnsley Market has a lovely friendly atmosphere. Great stalls, something for everyone. A couple of stalls that I think should be in there is a fashion jewellery stall and a toy stall. Did most of my Christmas Shopping in this market this year. Keep up the good work.

It wasn't the market's busiest day (Tuesday) but it was reasonably brisk. A great deal of effort has been made to ensure people are safe whilst shopping and as Barnsley goes into tier 3 covid restrictions its important to keep supporting these traders who are finding it very difficult. Please give them your support.

I love this market. A very good selection of cafes, offering reasonably priced quality food. It offers a nice choice of both men's and ladies clothes, meat counters, fish counters, and carpet stalls. It has always been spotlessly clean on my visits.

Love the new markets, so clean and fresh. I do think the butchers need to up their game a bit and put on some aged beef etc there's nothing high end here. Same with the fish markets, not a great deal of choice, let's see more fresh oysters and variety of fish.

Iv heard alot of negative comments about the new market and i do understand some of them but from my personal point of view...i love it! The addition of the sky lounge and eateries up there brings us in to line with other progressive towns and cities. I love the new image ...lets have more of it!

The new food hall at Barnsley Markets is very impressive. The choice of food is superb, ranging from traditional cafes to Indian, Thai, Eastern European (I think) and I understand that rotisserie duck, pizza and vegan outlets may also become available. The central bar and its seating area are modern and a good selection of drinks and cocktails are available. The huge windows make it feel airy and offer good views.

Barnsley Markets has been revamped however it has now lost its sparkle.
The new layout fails for me and does not work.
I would urge Barnsley Council to work with the market traders to fix it, because if they don't it will remain a big disappointment.
For years Barnsley Markets were envyed by many far and wide but alas not anymore!
Please fix the problems of the market now along with the high stall rents which has left far too many stalls vacant.

Changed a hell of alot, looks great still plenty of choices, shame to see some of the older ones have gone though. Went to Kay's cafe for a breakfast, excellent value got what I asked for and a decent cup of market coffee, will be happy to go again

Not as many smaller food stalls as there were in the old market, where's the black pudding and pig bag and tripe stall gone?
Is the council pricing out the smaller stall holders?
Still a good market, don't end up like Wakefield, with no market,
Barnsley,s fresh Vegetables have always been good!

The new Barnsley indoor market is nice and spacious and traffic free ( hooray ). It is within easy reach of the bus & train station.
Only one downside; goods and food on sale are expensive. Not easy to buy if you're on a low budget.

What a depressing place, went on a Saturday morning and by market standards was virtually deserted. There's lots of empty spaces and it feels completely soulless. I feel sorry for the traders who are being charged extortionate rents the mafia would be embarrassed by. There is no separation of the meat and fish markets either so the place just stinks of fish. Well done Barnsley council for blowing our council tax on another white elephant.

Nice grey concrete flooring, which really makes the market stalls stand out. Everything clean and undercover & has an escalator for the upper level, You can tell Barnsley council have spent, just hope the rents are not too much.

The new Barnsley town market is big, bright and beautiful. The atmosphere is welcoming. Not too many stalls for the space given but those who are there have great quality of products including deli, butchers, fresh vegetables and fruits, fabric and knitting, house furniture, books and cards, cosmetics, accessories, quit smoking support, snacks and cakes etc.. Has 4 cafes and big dinning side with simple and industrial decoration. Wheelchair users have access to every entrance and plenty of space inside the building to navigate. Clean, tidy and modern exactly what the town needed.

There's a lot of work going on around the new market hall. The completed interior is clean, spacious and the traders have stalls which are uniformly signed with the names of the business. There's a good mix of businesses and I think it will work well. If you look at the debacle of neighbouring Wakefields new market, it's all positive.

Lacks atmosphere of traditional market. "Sterile" atmosphere, too spread out as many stalls are unoccupied which also reduces choice of produce and wares .Sound system for " piped" music unbearable as music played in stereo comes out of speakers to far apart to get desired effect Eg voice and drum out of one speaker next speaker has remaining instruments and no vocals . Posh toilets but driers very low heat so don't dry !!!

One great market and town,we go there every weekend even though it's a drive there for us,it's going through a transformation at the moment,new market new buildings and all in town centre and even has a outside market on some days.train and bus station close to town,parking is OK but very busy on a weekend but can still find a place to park.so go have a look at the new Barnsley town/ market.if your disappointed you must live in a zoo.

Improvement is incredible. Very clean and open, shops are much easily identifiable now due to the space. Been to Keith's meats(excellent), computer shop and even the brow bar lady all in one go. Onwards and upwards....

You can buy good fresh fruit and vegetables, freshly baked bread and fresh meats and fish and eggs as well as sweets, biscuits and cake. There is a good range of clothing a hairdresser and hair wigs.

Although from Doncaster Barnsley Market is a superb alternative. Multistorey carpark above the site, easy access to two covered market set of stalls. Bus terminus and train station within close proximity. Masses of variety you would expect from a modern market with excellent goods at extremely competitive prices. Barnsley's town centre is a smaller cousin to the neighbouring Doncaster and Rotherham but has all the necessary shops, its own shopping centre and the market is on its doorstep. Brilliant.

Great market with lots of reasonable stalls. Devines Shoes sells the best value Loakes shoes, probably in Yorkshire. Has customers traveling miles around to buy from there. We'll with a visit!

At the moment the area is a work in progress, so be prepared to shop in a building site. I have always loved Barnsley for shopping so look forward to seeing the finished product. I parked in the multi storey which was clean, but I still feel a bit miffed at having to pay for the pleasure when spending cash in the shops.

Fantastic markets, lots of variety on stalls. Loads of other shops outside. Love it and wish Leeds was the same. l would highly recommend a visit. Had a bacon buttie and pot of tea at one of the indoor cafe which was called Hudsons, perfectly done.Well done Barnsley.

Long established market in Barnsley town center.At the moment its all being rebuilt, don't let this put you off.
Probably the best market in South Yorkshire.
Excellent fish market,we're you can even buy oysters.Lots of great butchers shops, you can even buy tripe.
There also is a great selection of fruit,and vegetables stalls too.
Lot's of places to get watch battery's,changed.
Quiet a few stalls sell fabric at reasonable prices,for the craft minded people.
I have also spotted home brew stall, for the budding beer Maker's.
There is also a lady that sells high end Loak,boots and shoes at very competitive prices.
Barnsley market is also a good place to get a warming meal,or get s warm drink.
Plenty of places to eat,pie & peas seam to be a local tradition.

Free parking at weekend still and a lot of improvements have been made since the last time we visited. The market has been redesigned, it's nice and warm and a pleasant place to shop. Theres still a lot of work being carried out, I'm sure it's going to be great when it's finished. We enjoyed our visit.

Since Barnsley Council knocked down their old offices in the town centre and constructed a temporary building to house most of the market trader's, whilst refurbishment of the inside market. They have made a very nice temporary shopping experience.

First time in Barnsley for years and shocked at how grim and unkept the outdoor market is - Dirty unswept floor, graffiti, drugvaddicts slumped around the place, bottles in gutters. All signs of poor management. Do the developers of the new market really want the current team to run the new market?
Save your disappointment and drive to leeds or meadowhall.

I love a good market. Great meat and fish market. Good fruit and veg and fabric stalls. The market halls are being renewed and modernised. Temporary market stalls in position. Hopefully next year it will be back to full strength.

Barnsley Council are investigating (not before time) in the town centre. The old market has been all but demolished although really good temporary accommodation has been erected. Loads of parking and easy access makes it really good.
Hopefully the proposed town centre development will put us back on the map.

Its nice to see people shopping here again! It looks so much cleaner now. There are loads of stalls selling so many different things. People seem to be enjoying shopping there again -and taking pride in their town - which in turn, is bringing visitors back again!
I think that once HB finish building, it will look fantastic, bringing Barnsley market back to the people, just as it should be!

Lost the character of the old market. Seems like the council don't want a market but somewhere for the influx of students. Why pull down shopping areas to open a library in prime retail areas.People came in bus loads to shop in Barnsley, now they leave in bus loads to shop elsewhere.

Barnsleys famous markets as they were once known, have seen a multitude of changes over recent decades and those poor businesses seem to be getting a rough ride again. As the town undergoes some major redevelopment the stall holders are pushed from pillar to post and each time I visit something else has changed. It's a nightmare right now but hopefully when development is complete the markets will again become an attractive option for shoppers. Many businesses have disappeared in Barnsley but there's always a loyal band of stall holders who've taken everything BMBC throw at them and continue to provide a quality service at the best price and always with a smile and a chat. If you've ever been to the markets you'll know and have no doubts made a number of return visits. If Barnsley is a place you've yet to look round I guarantee, even as it stands now, you'll find everything you need served by some of the loveliest most approachable and friendly people the north has the pleasure to have. Please bear with all the diversions and building going on and check out some of the market area. You'll be made very welcome and a few more punters from other towns would certainly help out some of the market traders. Go on. Go cheer up someone in Barnsley as well as 'thisen'

I have no issues with the new Barnsley market. One stall that I think should be investigated, "phone corner" stall number 56.
Really don't know how these traders get away with been able to rip of the general public with their cheap and faulty equipment.
I took my iPad & iPhone to the, "phone corner" located in Barnsley market, I've ended up paying £110 in total for my equipment to be fixed.
I feel absolutely ripped off, for what they have done to my devices, traders should not treat customers this way, and take money they do not deserve.
I find it disgusting that they took my money, damaged my property, and did a terrible job that is still not fixed on both devices, won't even give me my money back.
feel robbed i put my trust in them, I'm left with faulty equipment that I did not pay for.

Some really nice stalls and cafes. The nail bar makes your eyes water though (we weren't in it but the smell is STRONG).

Today was Sunday so it was a car boot market but without car boots ! There's plenty of places open to get coffees and food and there is always a bargain to be had if you rummage around and look carefully. Tuesdays are the second hand market day outside but not a car boot market. What's the difference. Dammed if I know. LOL

The market is great, plenty of variety to see and buy. The market is something to marvel at. I am part of the team at Henry Boot refurbishing the old market and it is going to be great.

Town being ripped apart. Market spread out. Would suggest leaving it 6-9 months before visiting again
