So, I went into Downie Allison this morning to beg for help after a major catastrophe with my daughter’s dissertation which was due in today. There are so many businesses these days who I know would have turned me away. The staff here were helpful sympathetic and understanding and took time to discuss what I needed. Ever had the feeling of trepidation when someone you have always used and trusted no longer trades so you have to find an alternative?? I had just this experience. For over 50 years I have collected football programmes and had binders produced to house them. However I hadn’t housed 5 years of programmes so researched the internet to find an alternative to my previous trustworthy bookbinder. I was attracted to DOWNIE ALLISON DOWNIE Bookbinders (DAD) by watching the video they produced and decided nervously to ask them if they could help in housing my collection. Nervous because I wondered could they match colours of previous binders, would they be as good as my other binders were they a genuine business as remember my collection is my pride and joy. For all those out there that need confidence in choosing a bookbinder I can tell you first hand that DAD will not let you down. Shona and Gail looked after me superbly. They were so thorough with my needs. Sending different samples of colours for the binder and the card inserts until I was happy. Asking me to the millimetre where my current binders had the lettering so they could match it exactly with the newly produced ones. I received my order yesterday and have “housed” my programmes (which those that collect know are much thicker than the ones of former years) in beautiful sturdy hand made binders that match up with my old binders beautifully. I can’t thank DAD enough for taking the time to source my exact needs and then producing exactly what I wanted. I will definitely use them again for all my binding needs and can honestly advise anyone in any doubt as to who to use to contact DAD they will not let you down. With all my thanks Andy Hall... Have taken several courses with Downie Allison Downie book binders. Thoroughly enjoyed each one and found it super satisfying making books that genuinely look and feel like they've been professionally made (at least to my eye!). Excellent break from my desk job. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff and the courses are reasonably priced. I travelled from the south east to take these courses with DAD and will do so again for the advanced course. It makes a nice weekend in Glasgow. Looking forward to it!... Read more

Would highly recommend printing your own thesis before taking it here for binding. I had several issues with the printing service, which the staff tried to correct after the fact. My request to remove glue seepage on one copy, while they attempted to correct printing issues, was ignored apparently. The leather binding is very attractive.... Read more
