Excellent to begin with with John Howe on initial advice. However following instructions the file was passed to another solicitor, and files were not reviewed well. This was rectified after discussion with John Howe. New events then occurred and the solicitor dealing with it was much more understanding and acted quickly. However subsequently serious mistakes were made with followups which prejudiced our position. Reducing from 5star to 3star.... Read more

I used John Howe Solicitors to serve a section 21 earlier this year. (Something I could have done myself for free, but wanted to be done right so paid hundreds to have it done properly). The initial meeting was fine and I paid up front. A few days after the date for the Section 21 to be served had passed, I called up for confirmation that it had been sent as I was told I would receive a copy of the document on the day it was sent. It took 17 days for me to receive this confirmation (fine, was a busy time for solicitors. Wasn’t that worried). I waited the 2 months for the Section 21 to expire and almost 2 weeks before expiry my tenant confirmed they would not be leaving. I emailed Jenna to ask for prices for her to carry out court proceedings and asked to arrange escalation for the day the Section 21 expired. No response. Over the next few weeks I emailed and called the office to no avail. Receptionists said they’d leave a message but Jenna never called or emailed back. 5 days after the court proceedings should have been submitted (3 weeks after my first contact to request escalation), I gave up and contacted a different solicitor to pick up my case. Only to be told by the new solicitor that the served Section 21 wasn’t even legal!! This was a very upsetting time for me and I was heartbroken that I’d wasted hundreds of pounds, but more importantly months of waiting that I would now have to do all over again. I called Jenna again, again receptionist failed to put me through. I explained the situation to the receptionist and that I was not happy and she put me on hold, spoke to Jenna and said I would receive a call back by the end of the day. I did not. The following morning I called again and begged for a call back. Jenna FINALLY called me back, and confirmed the Section 21 was incorrectly served. At this point I was heartbroken and did not want to speak to or deal with this solicitor ever again. Jenna giggled about the mix up and apologised. I got a refund and we parted ways. My new solicitor was FANTASTIC! Communicated with me every step of the way and served the section 21 correctly. Actually earning every penny I gave them! I totally understand solicitors are human and mistakes can be made, I can be empathetic with that, but the lack of communication and customer service was disgusting, disheartening and shameful. Will never use or recommend this solicitor to anyone.... Read more

We have used John Howe & Co for both our own house move plus the sale of my late Mother's flat. The latter has been rather a trial for various reasons but Bob Howe has been brilliant. Very responsive to emails and calls and very patient with a variety of issues that cropped up. The fees were also very reasonable. We would definitely recommend this company, cannot find fault at all.... Read more

I bought my first home with the help of Jenna at John Howe & Co and I couldn’t of been luckier to have such a professional and supportive solicitor ! She was very patient , quick to respond and quick to move things along to the next stage of the sale for me . She kept me in the loop throughout the sale right up to completion and would email/ phone me with updates (not just wait for me to contact her to move along to the next step) . Over all I have had a very positive experience with everyone who helped me at John Howe & co including Bob and John who were also friendly and a great help. I was buying a property which change to a nightmare. On the day of completion after getting the funds released which was a re mortgage on my property. Got told everything was good to go, but then the Solictor decided to do some final check which show the seller was fit to sell due to his health. Why not do all the checks before asking for the funds . He changed me over £900 plus left me with a mortgage. And no property. Which I asked the ? They said you independently got the funds.... We recently dealt with Jeremy at John Howe & Co, and he was a refreshing change after dealing with another solicitors in Leeds. Jeremy has been reliable, laid back, knowledgeable, gave the perfect level of advice and reassurance, charged reasonable amount (and more importantly, doesn't charge for work he hasn't done unlike some solicitors). A fair price for a great service. What stood out for us that when he made a promise to look into something for us after the appointment - he did, and he did so promptly.
