Had 1 viewing with this company. The agent was rude and sarcastic the entire time, it's fair enough to inject some personality into a viewing but this was a joke. Also the 1st red flag was that he "didn't notice" a huge slash in the kitchen cabinet? He did answer any questions we had though. We opted to take the flat and the agent messed us around big time by saying he would contact the landlord and get back to us and we repeatedly had to ring him and was repeatedly told "I haven't spoke to the landlord yet." The last straw was ringing the agent and him actually having the audacity to argue about when we last contacted him. We do understand that the current situation with Covid19 has made things difficult however we had viewings with other agencies and experienced nothing like this. We viewed another flat in the same building with a different agency and began the process with them. Things became a big awkward on our end because of Smith lachter because we assumed they weren't going to do anything about our application and they then decided to start the process without warning us and after weeks of us hearing nothing from them. This meant my previous landlords getting confused as to who was contacting them and for what flat. We politely emailed smith lachter to withdraw our interest and yet again didn't recieve acknowledgment of this. Very unprofessional from someone who's apparently been in the business a long time.... Rented a property through this agency, the landlord was a friend of Mr Lachter of Smith and Lachter. The landlord did not clear the rubbish left by the last tenant, when I moved in Mr Lachter said I should clear it. I cleared what was in the back garden but left what was in the sideway. Mr Lachter also allowed the landlord (his friend) to have his post sent to the house I was renting and expected to be able to come by every so often to collect it. Mr Lachter has a very patronising nature. I will never deal with this company again.... Read more

First class service from Smith Lachter. I can't thank Michael Lachter enough for the assistance they provided yesterday when there was a major issue with the heating system in a flat I own. A valve had failed and water was pouring through the ceiling into the flat below. Michael phoned six heating engineers (on the coldest day of the year) and managed to get someone out at very short notice indeed (I would have had no chance at achieving this). He even took the initiative and went out to the flat personally and turned the water off until the plumber arrived and the tenant returned - saving major damage from occurring. The plumber did an excellent job of diagnosing the fault (not just assuming the cylinder had gone and charging me a fortune) and carried out the necessary fixes at a very reasonable cost considering the emergency call out. Michael has kept my tenants updated and even spoke to the tenant in the flat that was damaged - something that he really didn't need to do. Overall I am extremely impressed. You just don't get this level of customer service with the major letting agents on the street. I am confident that I can trust Smith Lachter to go the extra mile for both their tenants and their landlords - well done! Mr Neil Liddicott.... Read more

Best agents. , Mike, Mr. Cool is the one who dealt with my tenancy period. Very fair and honest man who also appreciates the same from others. Never had any unpleasant incident with them. Great guy and great team running the agency. If you are looking to rent out a place to stay at basildon council area, i sincerely recommend to try smith lachter first.... Read more
