Me and my partner rented a property with Alasdair Morrison, to be precise it was 7 wentworth corner, Newark. From October 2019 - start of Feb 2020. When we viewed the property we got told that the smell was in fact a fresh coat of paint, however after 4 days we found out it was not. We recently had a baby and he was just under 8 weeks old when we moved into this property, thinking it was a home where we could spend many happy years together as a family of 3. However, this was not the case at all. The first 4 days of having the property we stayed at my mums house over the road due to not having any curtains or blinds up. On the 5th day we stayed at the house for the first night, we put the heating on to warm the house through for our baby, then the nightmare began. Black mould started to appear, not just little bits, but lots. As soon as we saw the mould appear, we instantly reported it to the estate agents, which we did not get a reply from for a few days. The landlord of the house (who gave us a false identity) came out to visit us at the property and to inspect the issues that we had. “Jeff” as we knew him to be called, was very intimidating and arrogant to the point where he told me that I should leave the heating off, and let my baby wear excessive amounts of clothing to keep warm rather than putting the central heating on. And to keep all windows wide open when the heating is on (bearing in mind it was WINTER!!) he said that it was our lifestyle and next we would moan about the pipes being frozen. Which I thought was a bit strange to say so made me question why he would say that. Then the mould continued, my 8 week old baby became very poorly, being at the doctors every other day to get checked, be given a range of antibiotics due to him having severe chest infections continuously due to the black mould and damp. I started to become very stressed with the situation and very depressed due to the position we was in and having to pay £525 for a property which was not fit to live in. We tried several times contacting the estate agents, to the point where we would get cut off or ignored, emails were continuously ignored etc... so it was only fair for us to take the next action. I seeked advice from CAB , they helped us get into contact with environmental health who had advised our landlord to sort the issues out straight away, clearly he did not listen. So it got to the point where Brian (from environmental health) came out to the property to do a full inspection and said the property was unfit to live it. And he advised us to get out ASAP. Jeff (who’s really name is Alasdair - I believe) visited us at the property again and said that the property was not suitable for a family and that he wanted us to leave the property which we was happy about, he allowed us to be released from our years contract and we had received our full bond money back. However after all the pain & heartache that this has caused myself and my family, especially with regular hospital visits with our baby , and the house having a lasting affect on his health where he now has asthma , is on a constant inhaler, has very weak lungs and immune system, we have had a lucky escape from here. The photos advertised are very false to what you shall see within days of being at the property. Builders were supposed to come out did but turn up , the leaks never got dealt with even the beams in the loft were dripping constantly with water. We needed up having to sleep in our living room as this was the room with the least amount of mould to try and help our child. I would highly not recommend this estate agents, and Deborah who works at the estate agents was no use at all, however I can honestly say when Ross came with our landlord ( the owner of the house) he was fantastic!! He himself was appalled with the condition of the house and said if he knew the state it was in at the start he would have not allowed it to be rented.He was very unaware of these issues. We had a lucky exocarp. Please do not fall into the trap that we did!! Keep all proof too !! Thanks
