What can i say about whitegates..!!! We were unfortunate to have had a rented property through these. They are really hard to deal with. We booked a viewing. We were at the property awaiting the arrival of a representative. No sign of them. So we rang the office. Yep they forgot the appointment. So we had to wait until someone turned up. No apology. So we took the tenancy on the house. Part way they wanted to inspect the house. We had our dog with us and paid £10 for her to stay with us.
They wanted to visit while we were at work. We mentioned our dog being there. We were told to leave her outside or somewhere else. No empathy from them. Inspection was ik. We had issues which were never sorted. We should have had keys for the garage which we never go. And the gsrage was chokka with building stuff. So when we left. The house was much cleaner than when we moved out. Our landlord commented on how clean the house was. Whitegates turn up to inspect while we are not there. So they say there were a few weeds between some patio stones. So they charged us £40.00 with no evidence of this. We had a call saying they had a letter of ours looking official. Three days later they tore it up. While i agree they look after landlords. They also have a duty of care to people renting a house they are managing.
They told us we had a week to collect it. To me 3 days isn't a week.
Anytime my wife spoke to them. What did she get. A member of staff shouting at her. We left curtain rails and curtains. They told us we could be charged for leaving them. And being charged to remove them. We had to supply curtains and curtain rails because nothing there. I have worked in customer care/relations. And i was amazed just how nasty they were once we had given up tenancy. They are so rude. Simple things they would ring up to have a go. I took a call from them. I said i was at work busy. And was told their call was more important. Errr i dont think so and advised i had to disconnect the call. And got a load of abuse. Hand on heart, i genuinely cant say anything good about whitegates. There is nothing I can say positive about them. So i say what i see. And i saw nothing remotely positive. I dont think i have ever come across staff representing a company as poor as these. I have no choice but to leave one star. Its too generous. It should be zero stars.
This review is my opinion of what i witnessed while in tenancy or a managed property on their books.

We were flooded out of our house and lived in a property in Newark arranged by Whitegates. The house was beautiful but newly refurbished so lots of building equipment not cleared away. I had to clean the cupboards as they were full of sawdust. We never got access to the garage the entire time we lived there because it was full of rubbish. The extractor fan was faulty and it never got repaired despite several promises.
We always dealt with the landlord who lived next door and he was lovely.
When we left, as a good will gesture, we left behind two sets of curtains and two curtain rails. The owner said we left it cleaner than it was when we moved in.
Whitegates then decided to charge us £40 because there were a few weeds on the patio. When I rang to complain I was angry so told them so. Then I got a phone call from another woman who was extremely rude.
I have said in that case please return my curtains and curtain rails. What was their answer? We won't return them but we can charge you for leaving them behind!!!!!!
I am gobsmacked at this company.
I have never dealt with a company so rude and unprofessional in my life. Never would I deal with them ever again.
Lots of estate agents rip off customers with trivial reasons not to return the deposit, but this one takes the biscuit!!!!!

I would give 0 if possible. I lived in a mouldy house for months, was terrified about my health, mental wellbeing and belongings. My shoes and jackets would be covered on mould. The pictures attached are only some of rooms, whole house was black in places - because of mould. On the beginning they were all lovely, untill we started reporting problems, then we would have those specialists coming over and over, sometimes not showing up. We had persistent problem with boiler, even after year of living with the property we would not deserve to have it replaced, instead Abigail would threaten us with additional charge for those repairs. Once we waited about a month for a piece for a boiler, it was winter, it was Christmas time. What company takes weeks to deliver a part? Nowadays? I feel like it was just to cause us more trouble. We had a massive leak from the bathtub too, ceiling was just falling apart, we had bumble bees infestation, all kinds of stuff. Then, when moving out, they would try to take ALL the deposit while saying it is a discount because the landlord will contribute to the refurbishment etc. I had to use my RIGHT TO DISPUTE, DPS has sorted the problem and we only had to pay a little over £50 for one or two things. It was a long process too because White Gates wouldn’t engage properly and take their time. I am glad this chapter is behind me and I would recommend to everyone- AVOID FOR ALL COSTS!

Hi I’ don’t normally leave reviews but I have to say for the past 6 months been trying to find a house we finally seen one with Whitegates estate agents and I’m so happy ,,,I forgot to get the ladies full name but she called Julie and what a great lady totally a credit to Whitegates really good customer service takes time to talk to us to find out our needs so definitely keep her at your company,,,I would also say the staff I spoke to on the phone in the Newark office were very good to actually seemed bothered sadly did nt get there names but also very helpful and wish all the estate agents in last 6 months were this good and hopefully we think we found a house which is totally down to Julie as she listened to us 1 house wasn’t quite right but she came back with hopefully the one we will hopefully be moving into so very very happy with Whitegates Newark branch your staff definitely go the extra mile

The worst estate agents I've ever had to deal with. They refuse to fix issues with rented properties such as water damage to the ceilings inside the property and active leaks. Often won't even bother to respond to communication through email or their emergency number. But don't worry they're quick to get in touch when they want money from you! When they do respond to issues raised they're dismissive, incredibly rude and disrespectful. I wouldn't use this business ever again and I would advise you to stay away.

Had a problem with one of their tenants parking in the middle of the road and blocking 6 houses in.
Sent an email after speaking with the neighbour and they continued to park there. Sarah emailed back quickly and all was well.
Was emailed a few days later basically accusing me of doing things I hadn't done. I asked for a call to discuss this only to be shouted at and accused of being rasict (they were constantly parking in the middle of the road for a week).
Wasn't listened to by Diane, who got things wrong, was abrupt and quite frankly vile. It was verging on insulting.
If this is the owners attitude and tone to something that was apparently dealt with 3 days prior, I can't recommend their services.

Won't ever be using your services and will tell everyone I can to avoid like the plague.

Had the dis-pleasure of speaking with the so-called owner and general manager. Vile woman wouldn't recommend to anyone thinking of buying, selling or letting. Seems to also have issues around race and equality. Likewise doesn't listen when a complaint has been made against their so called experienced team members. Apparently tenants parking in the middle of a coukd-de-sac is a minor issue even though blocking the road and vehicles for at least 4 other house owners and ironically their own other tenants.
Approach with real caution. You wouldn't bet on her to get you out of a situation.

I've seen 3 properties with Julie in the last week and she has been very helpful and understanding of our situation. We've been struggling to find somewhere because we have a dog and she has gone out of her way to look for places and call me up when she found somewhere suitable for us. She was very welcoming and friendly and explained the pros and cons of the property to us and was more than happy to answer our questions. Hoping one of them works out for us and will happily recommend Julie to my friends.

Why they didn’t informed me before? Why they called me today for the confirmation?

If you’re looking for a company who doesn’t care about their tenants, lies, and doesn’t reply to their emails unless you take actions into your own hands then go to whitegates.
We Lived in the house for a year and 6 months with no heating and didn’t bother to try and fix it especially when I was pregnant. We also sent all emails to citizens advice and shelter who advised us to take legal action.
A couple of months of us living in the property they tried to make out we never declared having dogs when we did and had been asked twice on an email when we declared having dogs.
The agents don’t communicate amongst each other they treat everyone as if they’re below them, you just need to read other reviews to get an understanding of that.
They try and make out the house isn’t clean when moving out yet professional cleaners have seen the property and was more than happy. As for the exaggeration for use of baby wipes and handheld hoover and we have sent evidence to the deposit scheme, and all cleaning evidence. We also asked for evidence of this before and was never received. Damp was around the house due to poor heating due to never being fixed.
Again this is all in my opinion before they email me for a second time threatening legal action for telling the truth.
I would also like to add that we have been returned the majority of our deposit showing that our property was clean with no “odour” as stated from the letting agents!
DO NOT USE THESE LETTING AGENTS (if you can call them that)

My experience with Whitegates Newark has been a continuous ordeal. Not only have we endured three years of unaddressed repairs and unreasonable charges, but despite our efforts to rectify the situation, they're still attempting to withhold £240 from our deposit, even after we've repainted and thoroughly cleaned the entire house.
Adding to the frustration, I've reported them to the Property Ombudsman due to an ongoing issue with a meter. Regrettably, I'm still waiting for a decision. The lack of resolution and their questionable practices make Whitegates Newark a highly undesirable agency. Prospective tenants, be cautious and consider alternative options. Avoid this agency at all cost.

If there was an option for 0 stars, I wouldn't even give them the satisfaction for 1 star. Absolutely appalling letting agents when it comes to the deposit. Leaving a property ALOT cleaner than moving in, warrants £200 being deducted for a clean? Agents didn't want to be specific as to what actually needs cleaning just told us to take it further with the deposits claim. Unhelpful, unfair, would not recommend.

Stay away from this company my auntie was supposed to be viewing a flat today which was arranged last week They knew that she was living in temporary accommodation she's 83 And last minute they rang to say the property was gone . They are advertising a flat to rent ASAP saying its ready to view... Been trying to view this property for a month now. I first Contact them on a Wednesday they said they can let me view the flat that night at 7.30pm I couldn't do that as was unable to get there within the hour they said the next possible time to view it was the following Friday... 9 days I did think that was long but the flat looked lovely. Waited untill the Friday morning for them to email canceling and rearranging for the following week. On the Tuesday at 6pm Tuesday comes and same again but this time they say rearaage for Thursday at 6pm again a massive inconvenience.... Less than 12 hour before the viewing they cancel again... I ring up as I'm frustrated that I've turned properties down while waiting plus just how unprofessional they have been... And all I got was a smug rude woman, who thought she was all high and mighty making excuses for the poor service I've received....terrible service all round

Highly rate Whitegates. They recently handled a kitchen refurb and full decoration for me. Abi in particular was proactive in getting quotes and arranging all the work to have the property empty for as short a time as possible. She then found a new tenant quickly and has kept me updated at all times.

I had a booking to view a property in Newark with a confirmation email, we get the train from Lincoln to be there in good time. Nobody comes so I decided to call the office. The lady I spoke to was rude and she makes me feel like it was my fault. After 25 min of waiting, a lady agent comes. She even doesn't apologize for delayed and she was very unfriendly at all. The house looks good but me and my wife decide to not collaborate with this kind of people. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! They are unprofessional and the company is a joke!

Since buying our house in Newark in 2008 we have been in the caring hands of LetIt ,now Whitegates.
In the Autumn of 2008 LetIt advised us on how to go about letting our property whilst we were away on the continent for, initially, a "gap year".They recommended tradespeople and craftsmen and advised us on issues such as landlord insurance and levels of finish before we left.And once gone, they quickly found reliable tenants who rented the property.
Our "gap year" turned into a ten year stay in Spain. Throughout our stay we were able to depend on LetIt/Whitegates to manage our property sensitively and professionally on our behalf.We had regular payments and regular inspection reports. Whitegates were quick to alert us to any issues which could affect our tenants quality of life or adversely affect our property. And I believe we were quick to respond to any issues that arose. Whitegates and their team,headed by Diane Ashley, were brilliant and immediately sorted out any issues keeping us continually informed and updated.
When you live abroad it is so reassuring to know that you have a letting agent who is reliable,trustworthy and quick to respond .We always received a fast response when we needed one. Also when living abroad the fact that you have a property in good condition ready to move back into if and when the need arises is very reassuring .
That need arose in 2018. We sold our Spanish home and informed Whitegates who very quickly informed our tenants and ensured that on our return all was in very good order with our property and the house was vacant which meant we were able to move straight back into our old home on our return .
Since our return and through sound consultation and advice we have carried out decorative works and put our house up for sale .
Charlotte Stubbins has been our selling agent and has been incredibly supportive ,helpful and efficient .The house has been marketed to its full potential and a sale was quickly agreed and is currently undergoing the conveyancing process. We hope to complete the sale very shortly.
We have no hesitation in recommending Whitegates as both a letting or selling agent. In fact on our recommendation our neighbours now use Whitegates as their letting agent and are very happy with the service provided.

Both my partner and I have personally dealt with the team at Whitegates in Newark during our 6 month tenancy. We have had a positive experience with this letting company as they respected our privacy during this time but were only a phone call or an email away whenever a query arose. After our tenancy ended, they were prompt in the property checks and released our deposit on the next working day after we vacated the property. We had most of our communication with Abi and Sophie during this time who were always super lovely and professional.

Unbelievably poor letting agents ....I agree with someone else , they seemed to side with the " dodgy " landlords , and ignore the tenants claims....
That indicates to us that they are only interested in getting their money , and not providing a safe and proper rental service for the tenants..
The worst letting agents I have ever had the misfortune to deal with...

After renting a property from them for over 4 years, in my opinion I feel they have lost their integrity since LetIt were taken over. Failure to resolve issues in a timely manner is the least of the issues. I do not reccomend this letting agent. Like others that have posted here I found the staff to be overly aggressive, money grabbing, ill informed and rude. As a landlord myself I would hate to think my tennants had been subjected to this kind of management. Just my opinion but avoid this company at all costs.
I completely dispute the response given to this message. To support my argument of lack of integrity the only 5 star rating for this company is from an employee! You choose who you believe.
Ok so having been called out staff are admitting to posting as customers a bit misleading. Not to mention their lawyer posing as a customer. Makes you think eh?

In my time dealing with Whitegates I have always found that he Ladies in the office have been a great help if and when there has ever been an issue with the properties I have rented.
I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for an Estate Agent to deal with or a Rental Property to secure.
