Not only has she been helpful with the admin side of things, but she also took me to view the property without prior booking, and without any obligation to help out in this way as I was only there for an identity check. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Can't thank Debra and Emily enough!! After the other experiences I've had trying to find and secure a flat in Bristol, dealing with them felt like a breath of fresh air. They were so friendly and helpful at every step.
Being a student made it even more difficult to find a place that would take me in, but Debra was so accommodating and made certain that I knew exactly how to proceed at each step. The rest of the team seemed just as lovely too when I went over there to handle some matters in person.
If you're looking to find a place to live in Bristol, these brilliant people might be your best bet. At least, they were for me :)

Moving to Bristol for the first time, the chaotic state of the rental market was incredibly challenging and off-putting.
Enter: Debs!
Her friendly demeanour and wealth of experience, she supported us in finding and securing our perfect rental property. As you can imagine demand was incredibly high, but we could depend on Debs. It felt she was really on our side, fighting our corner, guiding us through the process, making us as attractive tenants as possible to the landowner. No marketing fluff: she will tell it to you straight.
As the process passed over to Vanessa, she has been clear, reassuring, and thorough in the stage that involves nervy transactions of substantial amounts of money.

We've walked in the branch last year, simply told Debra what sort of property we were looking to rent and she had us view 2 places on the same day (one of which we've actually signed and rented)
The flat was let to us clean and properly looked after.
It made the whole period feel very hassle-free with them only coming in twice for a quick chat, which was very important to us since between full-time jobs and life in general it's not easy to fit in letting agency visits.
Will likely come back to C&M when time comes to buy a flat, so will probably leave an updated review on their sales team in the future!

We could not have been happier with the world -class service provided by Chapell and Matthews, the lettings team on Whiteladies Road Bristol.
The professionalism displayed by Debra, Etima and Vanessa was outstanding. Dare I say the whole profession and sector did shine through them! The processes to follow were very clear and every step on the way was dealth with very quickly. If and when we needed help or clarification, a phone call, or an email - answered to straight away - did suffice.
It took four days from our viewing to complete all including the referencing, and we are to sign our tenancy agreement next week. So that will be 10 days from start to finish.
Simply remarkable.
But more than the service and professionalism, we loved the fact that we have been treated incredibly respectfully and with dignity. From the moment Debra picked up the phone we felt confortable and knew there was something special about Chappell and Matthews and the lettings team.
I am not someone easily impressed, nor trusting easily. In these days and age one usually ends up feeling disappointed in people! In this case I will go as far as saying that I trust Debra, Etima and Vanessa. And I will go further by saying that I would even encourage my own son, my most beloved person, to work with them if and when he will need in the future.

Have been lucky enough to be both a landlord and a tenant. I have dealt with a number of different estate agents over the years and most of the experiences have been positive.
Unfortunately, the experience with Chappell and Matthews was awful. Communication dreadful, promised phone calls not returned. Paperwork incorrect. Dates moved due to errors made. This was a straightforward business let... it should have been simple, but was not.
All in all, had I have been the landlord on this occasion I would be using someone else in the future. As the tenant I would not choose to deal with them again. It's a competitive arena and a better standard is to be expected.

When me & My partners landlords both tried to evict us illegally with no notice, naturally we were panicking trying to get everything in order to arrange a move. Not only did Ben & Chloe work with us through our situation with the patience’s of a saint, helped us find a place that was suitable to our specific needs, but they also provided us with every bit of information and answered every question we had with amazing efficiency and speed. If they didn’t have the answer we were looking for, they took initiative and found out for us every time without fail. Moving is always stressful, but the process was made into a joy under Ben & Chloe’s carful & attentive management. We called every letting agent under the sun, but none greeted us or continually looked after us with the kind of attention to detail, precision and genuine care that both Ben & Chloe showed us throughout our moving process. The final part of our process was handled by Vinessa, who while we had less contact with, treated us with the same respect and amazing kindness as her colleagues had. The Lettings Team are quick to respond and were helpful in getting us into the property. HOWEVER the Property Management Team have given us a completely different view of Chappell and Matthews. Lack of communication, lack of escalation of urgent issues and overall low attention to detail spring to mind.
- The team are failing to relay messages from tenants to landlord. We have been escalating issues for over a month and only today has the Landlord been informed.
- We are never pro-actively given updates. We only find out about progress by emailing them (They do not pick up their phones when we call).
- We have a large issue that was agreed to be resolved before we moved into this property, however 3 months down the line and still no progress has been made.
- The team request information that we have already provided, this happened on multiple occasions.
Apologies to those in the Lettings Team, but your Retention and Management Team are really letting you down!!!
Based on the experience as a whole, We would not recommend Chappell and Matthews.

At first I thought the repairs system - online via FixFlo app - was going to be useful. As it turns out, it's a nightmare. The sales agent who signed you up doesn't take responsibility, it's all outsourced to a service at umbrella agency Countrywide to one office that manages repairs for a long list of their agencies. Our landlord is absent, so he's not responsible either. It's February. Our boiler broke for the fifth time on Thursday night. The kids are freezing. After chasing the repair office several times we have been told we won't get it fixed till Wednesday, because they will only work with one contractor who can't get the parts in time. It's unacceptable.

Moving during a global pandemic is not easy, I should know I have done it twice already!
Moving 121 miles to another city for a new job alone over the course of a weekend seemed almost impossible but not for Debra!
She is a one of the worlds real life superheroes - though her cape maybe invisible her exceptional customer service shines like a beacon of hope and an example of exemplary customer service.
She arranged everything from; virtual viewing to providing me with the most incredible personalised move in assistant. With live built in price comparisons for energy, council tax, internet and water quotes as well as removal company assistance and advice on the perfect property for my living and commuting needs Debra took care of it all.
Words do no justice to the level of service you will receive from her, all you have is get in touch and she will take good care of you.
I would go go as far as to say this is the best customer service I have ever seen/received and being the choosy nervous customer I am that’s really saying something.
Thank you for helping to make my dream move a reality and doing so with such a caring, professional, assured and thoughtful approach for this I am truly and eternally grateful ????

Myself and my girlfriend are due to relocate to Bristol in August. Having grinded through multiple application processes with multiple agents in the Bristol area to be shrugged off and disregarded, with slow responses, Chappel and Mathews was extremely refreshing and amazing in comparison. We had the fortune of being dealt with by Debra as our main point of contact and can not fault her. She has been responsive, very understanding of our situation and extremely supportive throughout. She made a great effort to pay attention to our specific requests, and has gone above and beyond to ensure we were able to successfully progress and sign a flat. We were starting to worry about the likelihood of finding somewhere, but the team have been great in sorting us out with great customer service.
We also managed to book a viewing of the property. We were show round by Ben who equally as impressive and attentive. The current tenants were poor at responding, and even though the viewing had been arranged for days prior, did not answer any contact attempts and it meant a 200 mile trip was almost wasted. However, Ben was straight on the case and made sure we were able to view. He was extremely professional and friendly and made us even more confident that we had gone with the right agent and confident that we made the right decisions to go through the firm.
I can not recommend the company enough, thank you so much Debra and Ben.

Having left a positive review some months ago. It now saddens me to have to follow this up with an equally negative one with the handling of the process following the 'offer acceptance'. Most people have come to understand that the world is a little slower in the midst of a pandemic, however, the senior negotiator is somewhat narrow minded in this respect. Her emails make little to no sense at all, and they are relentless. Rosie Arnold also needs educating in the various processes of purchasing a house and all the different documents that need to be completed for the purchase to advance. The very unprofessional manner in which she conducts herself is shameful. She not only managed to wind up myself, but also my solicitor and the vendors’ solicitor too. I do not tolerate the manner in which I was treated, and at the last hurdle and with great inconvenience and cost to myself, I withdrew from the sale purely because of her behaviour. She is the sole reason for this abortive purchase. I now resume house searching again but I will not entertain anything on the market with Chappel and Matthews.

Our letting agent, Miss Debra Barton, introduced and showed us the lovely flat which we have now rented. She was punctual in our appointment at the flat and has then explained all the pros and cons of the flat including the interior design, sunlight direction, security, door locks, inhouse appliances, and the operation and usage of the garage. After that, she followed up together with her colleague Daniel Smith closely with us and the landlord about the terms and the signing of the tenancy agreement and other relevant documents to make sure they were timely completed. I would not hesitate to recommend Debra to anybody to be a letting agent for renting a property.

I moved house in between lockdowns this year, which added an extra layer of complication to the process, due to restrictions and delays, etc. Julie was the agent who showed me round the property (twice) and answered all my queries, noting down those she didn't know the answer to and getting back to me shortly afterwards. She didn't try and fob me off or pretend she knew stuff the didn't, like a lot of estate agents I have encountered do. I've used a lot of estate agents to find properties to rent over the years, but Chappell & Matthews have been the best. Hollie found me a beautiful flat that would take a small dog, at a good price, extremely quickly and there wasn't a need to view anymore. They are approachable, helpful and efficient. When I have a problem, their reporting system is quick and easy to use, someone gets onto it very quickly. I would highly recommend them.

Exceptional! In every way. I have rented in Bristol for 15 years, I have dealt with *numerous* letting agents. None of them even slightly compare to the professionalism, speed and friendly service that I got from Chappell and Matthews. Debra was fantastic, found me a killer property to my budget and called me regularily to keep me updated and let me know when there was something to sign. Everything is signed electronically, super easy, referencing was done in a day (fastest I've ever seen). No hidden costs and all round very happy.

Great teamwork – I want to express my gratitude to the team at Chappell and Matthews who have provided a professional and well-rounded service. My property required complete refurbishment following a very long term let. Following quotes and excellent guidance from Chloe, the work was completed to a high standard in just a matter of a few weeks. Even before the paint had dried on the walls (or even the shower room installed) Debra had, with great efficiency and thoroughness, lined up a suitable tenant. Proactive and attuned, they are aware of what is required, being supportive and easy to work with. As a landlord, living some distance away I have the property let on a Fully Managed basis and I am grateful for all they have done and continue to do.

Agent never showed up to viewing. Drove 60 miles in treacherous, rainy conditions for the viewing, and got soaked through waiting for 30 minutes. Subsequently went to the office, to be greeted by the rude and nonchalant Lee (who apparently is some sort of sales manager). He claimed that there were no viewings in that block today (despite my email from him 2 days ago confirming the same), and was not even remotely apologetic. Have multiple emails confirming appointment times, so find the lack of organization (or perhaps just a reluctance to get wet?) really disappointing. Long story short, would not recommend Chappell & Matthews (I certainly won't be using them), and would suggest one of the many reputable estate agents in Bristol instead (or indeed use Purple Bricks)

A total shambles for tenants.
I let with C&M for 3 years. They were ok when showing us around and getting us in to the property (when they needed something from us). As soon as we were in we became totally unimportant to them.
I can't count the number of hours of my life I have spent calling and chasing them about things that should be part of basic customer service. Every year during our renewal something went wrong on their end (lost paperwork, poor record keeping, terrible communication), making it very stressful for us.
The same was true of ending our tenancy. I had to repeatedly call them to confirm things due to no response to email, with only false promises of a call back and being passed around from pillar to post. Debs was the only person to ever call me back but unfortunately there's only one of her. We left the property in a pristine condition and the landlord personally contacted us to thank us for this and confirm they'd requested release of the deposit. Despite countless emails and phone calls from both the landlord and myself, nearly 3 weeks after the end of the tenancy, we have still not received either the deposit or the overpaid rent, totaling over £2000. Not only is is this terrible customer service but this is also now breaking the law.

Worst estate agents in Bristol. Avoid!!
Letting team is not processing to release my overpaid rent and deposit though I have terminated my lease contract with them more than 6 weeks ago. Nobody replies emails or answers phone calls. This property agency don't fulfill their responsibilities.
These estate agents may get a place for people quickly, but are really bad at managing and maintaining properties. They only treat tenants well before contracts are signed, then ignore tenants' requests and lie to tenants.

We were really struggling to find a place in Bristol and Hollie was absolutely determined to help us!! From the first viewing she was the most helpful, personable and friendly estate agent we'd come across. She proved herself to be incredibly efficient and a true problem solver when we came up against all sorts of problems with our finances (mainly as I hadn't yet started my job.) I received such great service from Matt Humphrey and his team at Chappell and Matthews in Whiteladies Road. Communication was great and they made me feel at ease during the whole process.
I used Martin Mullen at the branch for my mortgage and would highly recommend him. As someone who doesn't find mortgages the easiest to understand, he took all of the pain away for me and made it all very easy and straightforward!
I wouldn't hesitate in using Chappell and Matthews again!

I have dealt with a lot of letting agents over the years and Chapell and Matthews on Whiteladies Road is by far the absolute worst of the lot.
From the start we were dealt with by a chap that clearly had no idea what he was supposed to be doing. He has since left the organisation.
Our communication with "Deb" has been brusque at best. She couldn't even remember our names, calling my partner a variety of different names, presumably in a vague attempt to hit the jackpot. She didn't.
So cheers for that, Barry.
Our current "property manager" Victoria has been utterly abysmal. I would not describe her as "a people person". Jennifer before her was also atrocious. Repairs were poorly communicated and executed. Things seem to take an absolute age to get fixed. Repairs have claimed to be completed when they haven't. This has happened on a number of occasions. Recently Victoria shirked responsibility for a repair, saying that we needed to fix it ourselves, failing to recognise that we aren't electricians, illiterate, or indeed, the absolute idiots that they clearly think we are.

Letting agents rarely have a good reputation but these guys are a shambles.
First inspection: they didn’t have the right keys.
Second inspection: they forgot about the appointment entirely - the landlord had to show us round instead.
They rarely return phone calls and failed to pass messages between us and the landlord about the terms of the lease. Deborah is the best agent there but you’ll rarely get to work with her.
From a landlord’s perspective, these guys aren’t earning their 10-15%. If they’re failing to let tenants in to see your property, they’re not selling it for you. Use an online letting agent instead, meet the tenants to choose a sensible one, and save yourself a packet (and a lot of stress).
