It's a loot. They will encourage you to rent a car by given you low rentals but when you are returning you will be ripped off. I have been charged £523 for no mistake of mine. The tragic part is that they take an authorisation to your card and then debit your account with whatever amount they wish to. I was charged a rental of £104 for 5 days. When I returned the car I was told that I have damaged the car and I need to pay £418 for the damage. Within 2-5 minutes of informing me they debited the remaining amount. After all this was done, they debited my account further for no reason by £218. This is ridiculous. You get a used car for £3000 to buy and they have charged me £ 741 in total just for a 5 days rental. This is how their business model operates. Beware guys. It's a fraudulent company.... Read more

I rent a car at Avis this summer, everything went well, until they took 400£ from my bank account with no reason 3 month later!
I spent days asking for reimbursement, I met the worst customer service ever with people just hanging up the phone.

Booked golf prepaid it was dropped off today at 9am keys posted. Came home 11am only to find car was not washed or hoovered, it had a dent and scratches and a wheel trim missing. Called Nottingham who the booking was made with for home delivery spoke to manager Graham 3 times from 11am to 1pm, he passed on to Derby branch assured me Daniel will be calling me, no call received. Called customer service at 1:30 today spoke to Debra who logged it as urgent call for Daniel manager (derby) or Graham (notts). Going to a wedding at 7pm car is not appropriate for payment £218 for a week. Still waiting for a call back at 4pm. Absolutely shocking customer journey. Will be taking this further if it is not resolved and a new clean damage free car is supplied for my trip to London to attend a wedding...... Read more

Rented a car from them in March 2019 for a few days. I have used Avis for around 12 years without any issues in the past.
Returned the Red Honda Jazz promptly on the time and date it was due back.
Three weeks after returning the car. I received an invoice from them stating I had done £390 worth of damage to the rear wing of the hire car. (The car was returned to them in the same condition as when hired) immaculate inside and out
The damage (dent) they are stating I caused is clearly a reflection of the adjacent curb way to there shack, reflecting in the paint work on the car. I sent them a photo I took of the same side when the car was returned showing no damage. There response was that my image wasn’t clear enough (it 10x clearer than the photo they sent me). To add insult to injury them claimed I had damaged the parcel shelf at first then changed their story after I called their bluff the damaged changed to the (un-)dented wing.
Six month on...
Avis have still haven’t refunded my £390 back on to my credit car.
Avis have ignored the letters sent to them by my solicitor stating we will be taking legal action against them.
I’m now looking forward to my day in court with them, I’m almost as excited as a kid at Christmas in fact. They are going to have a hell of a surprise when we get to court. I will be taking them for more than the £390 damage that they have falsely accused me of causing.
Do not rent from Avis. A shower of lying toe-rags.
Not only have they lost a good loyal customer I will be taking them for all the stress and hassle they have caused me and my family over the past six months.... Read more

Avis are crooks ! I booked online a car for £93 paid online £93 then after returning the car ... surprise surprise invoice of £132 without any reasons! The thing is the booking is a "voucher" not the total cost of the renting ... I realised (only afterwards) that I signed a paper for £132 when I collect the car ... but without being told the amount was different! ...On top of this I must say the car had not been totally cleaned! ..
