I have just moved into my new house in Brighton after months of a waiting game due to awkward buyers down the chain. Michael, from Stanfords estate agent has been a godsend all the way and has shown total professionalism combined with great help and advise during that stressful time. He went out of his way to give me regular updates, chasing various solicitors and other involved estate agents up and down the chain, and I always felt he genuinely cared for my wellbeing during the whole process.
Ryan was also a great asset to get things moving, from my first visit to the new place until completion day. The two of them are truly representing what an estate agent should be all about and I would definitely advice anybody who is looking to buy/sell/rent a property in the area to get in touch with them. They are human beings dealing with other human beings… not just a money making machine…

Just completed on my first purchase and I worked with Michael at Stanfords in Hove.
Not only am I very happy in my new home, I was delighted with the help I got from Michael. Being a newbie, he helped massively when my solicitor was being slow. I actually think that without Michael's help, completion would have dragged on a few more weeks. He was very responsive and generally a pleasure to deal with. Had a viewing twice with this company, both times were late and also they don’t bother to allocate separate time for viewings - always have to view with other people. Not very professional compared to other agencies. Wouldn’t want to rent through them, as I’m sure they’d have a terrible customer service. Just an honest feedback...

Stanfords sold my house in Shoreham in quite a difficult market. They are certainly a breath of fresh air in an industry that has a deservedly dubious reputation. Michael is open, straightforward and very professional. What I liked most of all was, unlike many estate agents that are so desperate to make the sale that self-interest takes over, all the way through Michael batted on my side. He never forgets who is paying his fee!

As a previous tenant, most i can say is that they are deposit thieves, honestly.. we rented out a place with a deposit of around 3.5K and we decided to raise it up to 6K just so we can pay 3 months upfront instead of 6 nothing more, but somehow they managed to rip us off nearly 5K from the deposit, keep in my mind the original deposit(of 3.5K~) had all the furniture cost covered so even if we stole all the furniture with us its unjustifiable that they took more than the orginal deposit for damages. Please keep this in mind if you’re renting from them, or I’d say save yourself the trouble and just dont.

Worst agency i ever worked with. Be ready to have non of ur calls answered, and if answered you will eventually get passed arround from one staff to the other through the phone for hours, for small or big any enquiry. Once you take the apartment off their hands youre simply done to them and ignored for the rest of the tenancy period and your deposit just dont expect it back.

Really shoddy client service. I arranged a viewing of a property and it all seemed fine. However when I arrived, three sets of other people were there to view. We had to wait outside as the agent was late. They turned up in a smart Mercedes but it was the only impressive thing. Firstly they asked us who we were and who arrived first. I had called that office twice already on the day confirming .
The current tenants were also at home and highly stressed and asked me directly if I could help dismantle their bed. The agent asked me if I had seen floor plan despite having no property detail leaflets to give me. She came with no paperwork to give me or means of noting down any queries. It felt like I was wasting her time. I asked several specific questions like the floor area....surely a simple query any property professional should know? Was reassured that I would be emailed with answers. Never heard. Absolutely amateur.

A combination of accurate valuation, great advertising and hard work from the sales staff meant it was a stress free experience for us. Michael was particularly helpful throughout the sale and definitely went the extra mile for us. If you want an honest and experienced estate agent we couldn’t recommend Stanfords enough!

The worst estate agents I've dealt with. They recently rebranded from their previous incarnation as Baron estates (go read their reviews) but it's the same company. I've only dealt with their lettings department, the others might be different.
Take everything they say with a grain of salt and make sure anything important is down in writing/email. After numerous failures on their side I had to take them to the property Ombudsman, after they categorically denied any wrong doing. After 9 months of process the Ombudsman decided against Baron/Stanford.
Mistakes happen, everyone screws up now and again, unfortunately with Stanford this seems to be operating procedure and management seem incapable of self reflection and error correction.
Still no apology to this day, take from that what you will.

Beware of this estate agents, I had my holding fee stolen. As I was not aware of the balance that i was due, which I only found out about after my deposit. They said they would refund it and call me. But never received the call. I spoke to the lady Lily who denied it all, I would’ve never put a holding fee down if I knew it was non-refundable. Absolutely shocking and disgusting behaviour.

We moved into the house 2 days ago of which we had seen photos and had viewed. We were first told 14th August for moving in but they changed it to 31st August because the current tenants were still there ruining everyone's plans to move in.
We finally move in and my god we arrive at the most disgusting torn up house. The kitchen window is broken, the cupboard is hanging off, the mattresses were brown they were so gross after numerous calls we are finally expecting new ones today (we hope). There are no small goods despite being told that there would be, the paint is falling off, the floor boards are broken and sink when you stand on them, the chair by my desk is so dirty I've requested a new one, the curtains are mouldy we have again requested new ones, the blinds are gone in the kitchen, there's black mould in some people's bedrooms, no bins, it definitely does not look cleabed, the washing machine is filled with dirt and the electricity keeps tripping so we can't cook anything at all and he was meant to be here yesterday - the mattresses were also meant to come yesterday but that changed. We are students and they do not respect us. I have copies of all emails, and photos of everything. By the time we leave this place will be cleaner than when we moved in and I will be getting my deposit back because I will take to court if necessary. I may be a student and not look intimidating but I'm also very thorough and love law related things. If anything they should nullify the contract or reduce the rent because we paid for something that has not been provided.

This place is horrible. They stole my friends things, my other friend had a leaking in his house for 5 days, and my other friend they left her with no hot working water for 2 months. HORRIBLE. ALSO, they charged my friend for furniture removal for an UNFURNISHED FLAT. Never deal with them. Money grabbing disrespectful people and manager NAZILAH.

From someone who has worked at Baron Estates, I must say the integrity and hard work of all staff members seems to go un-noticed in these reviews.
The Lettings Team, Sales Team and Property Management department all arrive early, leave late, and from first hand experience, work extremely hard.
Nothing but admiration and gratitude, for a company that has had its fair share of difficult times, but has bounced back better than ever, and any landlord/vendor/buyer or tenant would be lucky to have Baron Estates dealing with their property.
If I could give 6 stars, I would.

Terrible terrible service. The property i rented out is infested with mice. In the description they stated it would be a modern apartment. Turns out I rented out a torn down apartment home to rodents. There were holes everywhere including the closet floors. I asked to get the wooden floors replaced in September. I am still waiting four months later. I kept on finding holes in almost all my clothes. Additionally, i had to wait for two days to get an exterminator to visit and place poison in certain areas. That didn't help at all since I kept seeing mice. When I talked to the company they stated that no one can help me out since it is the weekend and I have to wait until Monday. Please avoid renting properties through this company.

I have rented for many years in the south east and have never had any issues my previous letting agencies. I'd also rather not spend time out of my day to make comments on how poor the service I have received but feel that any potential customers looking to rent or purchase with Baron estates need to run a mile!! So this is the experience we have had to date so far -
- We have been charged for issues that have nothing to do with us.
- The property still has management problems that have not been resolved after three months of moving in.
- On our initial visit to the property after a 1 drive the viewing couldn't take they 'forgot the keys' and didn't offer to drive back to the office and rather us come back on another time.
- Their referencing service is appalling and even had that voiced by a member of their staff!
- On most occasions the service we receive is rude but on every single call and communication it is cold and unwilling.
We will never recommend this firm to a friend or family member and have many good things to say about our previous experiences of estate agents. If you are a potential landlord looking to rent through this company look somewhere else, the tenants receive a shocking service.

I used to rent a ground floor flat in central Brighton back in 2012 though this agency. Once somebody broke my bedroom window and stole my laptop. The incident was reported and investigated by the police and I had the written statement. The agency refused to replaced my window unless I was paying the amount of £75. I visited the citizen advise bureau to get legal advice and they provided me with a written statement that says that the agency is responsible for replacing the window as it is not something that has been caused by me or my visitors. Also they mentioned to me that the agency is probably doing that to me because I am young and foreigner so they can easily get my money. I was sleeping 4 weeks without window and covered the hole with cardboard and tape. After this time the police called me to ask if everything was okay with me. On the phone with the police officer, I explained the situation about my window not been replaced yet and then the police immediately called Baron Estates. The next day early in the morning the agency fixed my window (finally) and I thought the issue has been resolved. Finally when I moved out from the flat they deducted the £75 from my deposit. Avoid this company at all costs!!!!

I have recently returned to Baron Estates after a previous stressful experience. I was pleased to find that the dynamics of the company had change and all the disorganisation from my last experience had vanished. Instead of dealing with 5 different people in the company, once my property Let I dealt with the property manager up until check in. every staff member was friendly and more than happy to help. I'm glad I went back.
