Had a great experience with them at first, but when it came to moving out, they changed their tune pretty quickly.
I was told there was no need to get the carpet professionally cleaned as they were replacing the carpets, despite this, I hired a friend who works as an independent carpet cleaner.
The whole apartment and carpet was absolutely spotless, but because I wasn't able to produce a receipt for the professional carpet cleaning, they deducted it out of my deposit (even though the carpets were replaced).
Very deceiving company so beware.

I rented a flat off a tenant Jones and I don't rate them a good agent when you have a problem it should be sorted out rather than left weeks and weeks and when we moved out they tried blaming for something that's their problem not ours won't be going to tanant Jones again

A really great experience, staff are friendly and welcoming, they pulled out all the stops in such a short time to help us find a flat in the area.
Quickly gauged what we were after, bent over backwards to get us viewings, and had such a smooth transaction when it came to paperwork, comms and the move itself.
I cannot recommend Kirsty, Jack and the rest of the team enough, have already pointed some friends in their direction.

Tanat Jones are definitely the best letting agents I've used in 7 years of living in Brighton. Other agencies have been exceptional at fobbing you off and not really caring what happens provided they get their cash (ahem Austin Rees). In comparison, Tanat Jones have always got back to me quickly and any maintenance issues that have popped up have been sorted within a couple of days. You don't always get this level of service - thanks a lot guys :)

Lets just say I am very sad to be leaving. I have dealt with Kirsty throughout 2 and a half years and I couldn't ask for better! It was my first ever experience living away from home and Tanat-Jones have made it such a easy and amazing experience for me. Been dealing with a lot of agencies around the world, must say Tanan-Jones & Co was a OK nothing special. Was a bit surprised the agent didn't even come with us to the house on the day of the move to give it a last check with us. Few minor issues I think should have been taken care of , like for example and the cleaning of the house was not well done, lightbulbs not working...Not sure i would rent with the same agency again.

Really pleased with Tanat-Jones! Kate and her team have been so helpful with our move. We needed a flat on such short notice, and they were very understanding and efficient in getting our application and credit checks processed, which allowed us to move in just a week after viewing our flat. They have replied to all email queries on the same day and are always available by phone. The company handy man Fred has been great too. The shed window needed replacing and this was done on the day we moved in.
Kate and the team have been really friendly and accommodating in all our correspondence, making the move to Brighton as stress free as can be!

Firstly Tanat-Jones ask when your moving and not staying with them to write a good review on here due to all bad reviews they get, it saves you paying for a reference... just a heads up!
Secondly, avoid 182c and the whole block, it's got: subsidence, rising damp, mould, old fashioned single glazed windows which are so rotten there's no point in having windows. A surveyor came round April 2015 and pointed out to us that the building needed to renovated due to the rising damp and mould (I'm asthmatic and that flat nearly cost me my life) it's a year on and still nothing but a quick lick of paint inside after we left has been done. Can't miss it, it looks like a crack den from outside against a nicely renovated block.
My pain is probably more to the cowboy that is the landlord, when we arrived all our belongings were mould/damp free, after leaving everything we owned was either thrown away or put in the washing machine on a very high temp. The electrics are dangerous, the plumbing was horrendous again something that the landlords plumber pointed out to me 1 month after moving in and never was sorted in the whole 2 and half years we were there. I then had an independent plumber come out who told us it was unhygienic.
The whole situation has been the worst experience of renting for us in the 11 years or so I've rented, it's actually taken over from Leaders and I thought they were bad but they didn't try to rip me off.
All in all, it's not worth any of the hassle or 'charm' you'll get, look elsewhere it's probably best. So look at the bad reviews first as I said at the top they are the truth behind this company/landlord of lewes road.

I can honestly say my dealings with Tanat-Jones and every member of staff who works there have been excellent. After bad experiences with other estate agents in the city, Tanat-Jones were a breath of fresh air. I'm completely happy with them and would recommend them to anyone.

Having had to use estate agents 3 time before whilst renting properties the experience has always been stressful and draining. When dealing with Tanat Jones I was preparing myself to feel that way but was incredibly surprised.
Dan and his team have been bloody wonderful and got all our issues sorted in no time, were always efficient and best of all, lovely to talk to and work with. Absolutely the best agents in Brighton.

I have used Tannat-Jones' services for approximately ten years.
They have been highly professional and reliable in all their dealings with me. When arranging the sale of several properties on my behalf, their knowledge of the local market and their proactive approach to sales meant that they achieved prices that exceeded my expectations.
I found their fees very competitive and furthermore they made no attempt to impose unwarranted or unexpected charges on either myself or any of the tenants they found for me.
I was very happy with the services they provide and I have no hesitation in recommending them as either letting agents or estate agents

Having had many depressing/frustrating experiences with letting agents down the years, I've found Tanat Jones very impressive.
They've been quick to respond when issues have arisen with the property and, most importantly, have kept me abreast of the situation until resolution.
I've found them to be courteous and pleasant to deal with.
And their fees are cheaper than most too.
My recommendation would be to use them if possible.

Have been with Tanat-Jones for the 2.5 years my wife and i have lived in brighton and they've been really good the whole time; from being honest about the flat i initially went into their office to ask about ("do you cook a lot at home? You won't want that one as the kitchen will be too small for you") to letting me collect the keys & sign paperwork a night early as we were moving to brighton from another city. During our time in our flat they've always passed any issues we've had on to our landlord immediately and been understanding/sympathetic to the impact of whatever issue we had. We're now moving to staffordshire and they've been great at this end as well, particularly in letting us stay in our flat for an extra week as our new house isn't ready yet - would have left it at 4 stars but have had so many issues with our new agent that its made me appreciate Tanat-Jones more!

I was with Tanat-Jones for nearly two years. I was impressed with them from the first viewing of the flat as they were always friendly and polite. They generally respond to any queries very quickly and tend to go above and beyond. The flat itself was very problematic (not that I blame Tanat-Jones for that) so I dealt with them a lot throughout my tenancy and they were very quick to fix any problems. They were also sympathetic to the problems I encountered with the property. My letting agent near the end was Kate Bennett who is really friendly and helpful.
I had no problem securing my deposit back from them. I would use them again if I need to move again in the future.

Wow, amazingly poor customer service! I tried to book a viewing with them and explained to the lady that previous day my viewing was cancelled when I was on my way there cause the flat had just been let. I asked her to book me the earliest viewing possible for this next option and she kindly agreed. Then she proceeded to explain that they will be doing viewings for the whole day in the flat and afterwards present all the interested applicants to the landlord. I decided to swap the viewing time later in order to avoid hassle at work, and asked her specifically "Is it possible that this flat is gonna go before my viewing if I come after work?" and she reassured me that "No, no. It doesn't matter what time you come during the day. You won't miss an opportunity even if you book the later viewing". Needless to say, the flat was let two hours before my arranged viewing. Either the lady working there is completely clueless or doesn't mind feeding bullshit to customers. Also, having visited the office earlier during the week it was impossible to get any straight answers regarding the available flats. I got completely contradictory answers regarding the same flat and in the end decided she probably had no idea but was just answering "Yes" to all my questions.

A lovely lady called Kate Benett was looking after our sale and from start to finish she was professional, smart, punctual and kept us informed at all times. The description of the flat was very well written and the pictures were fantastic. She never hesitated to go that extra mile which really shone through in her work. Tanat-Jones have been my letting agents for 1 year and are by far the best letting agent I have been with over the past 12 years. I move around a lot and as such have had a myriad experiences with all sorts of letting agents. Tanat Jones are respectful of: working hours and the difficulties that arise from contractors gaining entry, ensuring that all concerns are taken care of by them, in their entirety; making a house a home and only contacting you when an issue cannot be resolved in any other way than through you and ensuring that the tenant is made aware of all dealings involving entry to your home and improvements surrounding it using your preferred means of contact; and they make sure that correspondence is as jargon free as possible. I have always felt respected and understood by all the staff at Tanat Jones and am very sad to be leaving them...I wish that I could have my new house with them!

We sought a place to live after being made homeless by another letting agent. Clearly our confidence was shot.
Tanat-Jones were incredibly empathetic and did everything they could to keep us informed and speed up the process as much as possible. Within days we were collecting the keys to our new flat where we stayed for 2 years.
In this time they responded to queries and issues promptly and never treated us like criminals, which I found with many other letting agents who consider all young people incompetent.
When it came to move out they were in touch about viewings and prompt with references.
I can not fault them. For a small company, other letting giants should take note, this is how you conduct business and treat your customers.
Five stars and I'd rent/buy from them any day should the opportunity ever present itself.

I purchased a property through Tanat-Jones and found their sales staff courteous, helpful and thoroughly professional. The chain I was entangled with grew horribly complex and I found myself increasingly grateful for Tanat-Jones’ guidance. In particular, Kate Bennett at T-Js was a pleasure to deal with, always available to provide advice (even while on leave – can you imagine a solicitor providing that level of service?) and kept me fully apprised of developments all the way through the increasingly labyrinthine process. I would happily recommend Tanat-Jones and (assuming I can ever face moving house again!) wouldn’t hesitate to use their services in the future.

I have been a tenant with Tanat-Jones & Co company for more than 3 years. In this time I have consistently made positive experiences with Tanat-Jones. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Whenever there was a problem with my flat Tanat-Jones staff set out to solve the problem, immediately. (I had repeated problems in this flat, and the issue was always solved in a very reasonable timeframe, and without any additional charges).
The service fees of Tanat-Jones are reasonable, especially in the light of the service that the company offers to its tenants. They are cheaper than other companies in Brighton.
In short, based on my positive experiences I would recommend this company to anyone searching to live in Brighton.

Having experienced many letting agents over my years in rented accommodation I cannot praise Tanat Jones highly enough. Moving from another part of the country they dealt with my family living locally on my behalf and played a major part in making my move go smoothly. I have always found all staff to be exceptionally hardworking and reliable. Any issues have been dealt with promptly and efficiently and i cannot fault their customer service. I was so impressed that I recommended them to a friend who had a flat to rent. She was also impressed with their service. I have only left due to the flat I was renting being sold. Whilst the flat was being marketed the sales staff were extremely considerate about arranging viewings and also highly professional in all of their dealings with me. The team were all very helpful when i had to move out and move to another letting agency,only leaving as they had no suitable property for my needs. They have liaised with the landlord on my behalf and it is refreshing that they do not have as many hidden fees as other letting agents. They were also very prompt at arranging the final inspection and quickly returned my deposit. I would highly recommend being one of their tenants. From my experience of the sales team too I would also recommend selling your property through this very professional but also very friendly agency.

Absolute pleasure doing business with, extremely friendly and efficient staff...honest and trust worthy from the offset compared to other agents on the same street (with a purple sign)......will certainly be recommending this company to my employer !!!
Staff actually treat you as a customer and genuine human being without the continual need to rip you off and have the time to actually talk and communicate with you and not treating you just as a sales statistic and certainly without the lies !!!

Having rented for years in Brighton we thought we had experienced all that Brighton letting agents had to offer (in terms of the usual poor customer service and extortionate fees).
However Tanat and Jones have helped restore our faith somewhat in the letting agents of Brighton and Hove. In particular Tom who looked after us with care over our two years and Kate who was supportive and understanding when arranging viewings due to the sale of the flat.

This is the first time to use their services all i can say they are professionals. Found a property on the Rightmove, called them, agreed in a weekend appointment, they just asked my name and my phone number – that’s was all (not like others asking every tiny detail in the phone), the agent waited us in that time, so we watched the property, has a chat about the property, the rent fees and so on, but didn’t say yes or no. They called me next Monday, asking me our answer, when I said, unfortunately that property is not for us, she just offered another, which is just under refurbish, but would suit for us. We could see it 15 mins later after this phone call, - absolutely no time-waster… :-)
Actually I am writing this review from that flat, which is awesome.
The credit check was easy and smooth, to sign the contract was so simple, they prepared everything, so we had just read and sign it and pay. After the move in she called us, asking is there anything else she could do for us…
I just recommend them. Every agencies and agent has to be like this…

I have rented with four different letting agents in Brighton and Tanat-Jones & Co have been the best by far. They have been friendly and understanding during the two years I have been with them, which is refreshing after the previous letting agents I have endured. Very fast to respond to queries and general issues you get when renting. I would definitely recommend Tanat-Jones & Co and have just started renting a new property with them myself. I am not one for writing reviews but I felt I had to post my positive experience after seeing some of the ridiculous reviews on here.

By far one of the best agencies I have dealt with in Brighton and Hove. Polite and helpful staff who regularly kept us updated on the progress of our rental. They also organised a handyman to sort out minor repairs before we moved in without being prompted. Unlike other agencies I have used they are always quick to respond to emails or phone calls. I would highly recommend this agency.

The kind of estate agency Nazis would open if they had won the war.
I can only give them 'Poor - Fair' rating because the scale doesn't slide low enough to describe the stench of incompetence and boobery that this agency emits every morning when it swings it's doors open. If I had to describe Tanat-Jones in one word, I would call it 'disgusting' but that still wouldn't paint an accurate enough picture.
Every single contract, tenancy agreement and document I was presented with had a error or a spelling mistake in it, the dates on the contracts were messed up, the figures were incorrect and the names were misspelt, but that kind of thing pales in comparison when one gets subjected to Tanat-Jones' own version of customer service, which resembles a war crimes trial with you assuming a role of some genocidal despot who chose to represent himself.
Not a single phone call was ever returned, replies to emails come in a form of one line responses that drip with pompous arrogance and are clearly designed to make you feel stupid, ignorant and unappreciated, that is to say if replies ever come at all.
When one sends a letter to Tanat-Jones one gets an impression that it is thrown directly into a shredder without ever being opened, and if you were to confront the member of staff about the whereabouts of your letter and it's well-overdue response you are told to expect a call back before the end of the day, see above to learn what happens then.
I had to request a copy of my contract/tenancy agreement twice and each time I felt as though I am shouting down a stinky manhole with nothing but my own echo and a sound of someone flushing a toilet coming back in response. I am still waiting to receive those and a thought of sticking my head down a sewer for the third time makes my stomach turn. Don't bother asking them any questions, unless those questions are "What's wrong with you?" and "What are you doing here?"
Majority of the staff in the agency seem to share equal amount of arrogance and incompetence to an extent that one wonders if these traits take precedence over politeness, aptitude and coherency during their interviews. If you are to tangle with any of them in a conversation you will immediately get a duplicitous sense of worthlessness and intelligence, I know it's a strange sensation but get used to it if you consider giving them any of your business. In one instance they couldn't even provide keys to the property, leaving you to go and cut one yourself.
When I was in the process of moving out of the house registered with Tanat-Jones I was told by one member of staff that they provide no help what so ever and in fact 'do nothing'. They will however collect agency fees for collating atrociously put-together paperwork. Since they do not look for people to fill their properties and never reply to letters, emails and phone calls one has to wonder what they do all day and why should anyone give them even a sniff of money or vague interest.
To sum up, if Tanat-Jones was replaced by a kebab house that flouted every health regulation and gave everyone ecoli it would still be a much healthier alternative to a shambolic nonsense that the agency represents.

Some of the other reviews are a little harsh it seems. So far Tanat-Jones have been ok, much better than some others I've been with. ((I'll update this comment if anything changes regarding deposit etc.))

Tanat-Jones & Co have proved to provide a five star service. We have found them to be extremely reliable, attentive, professional and friendly and their property services second to none. Thoroughly recommend them as an outstanding agency.

At best patronising, at worst rude. Unprofessional, unhelpful, occasionally using aggressive and threatening tactics. Treat potential tenants like dirt. Seriously need to rethink their mission statement and business objectives!

tenants beware these sharks are to be avoided at all cost. I have had personal experience of being bullied and intimidated by these letting agents. Their service is poor at best and they have no concern for their tenants .

Horrible people.
The neighbor above was a self proclaimed handy man. In reality he was just an abusive drunk so naturally he caused a damage that leaked water in our house. My girlfriend called Tanat Jones numerous times to report it and they simply ignored. For several weeks. She had to leave so she gave them permission to enter the property after she left only to return a week later and find that there has been a literal waterfall in our house. Thousands of pounds damage for both us and the landlord.
The property was now uninhabitable due to their own neglect. Repeated neglect and at the same time, without remembering many details, they were exceptionally rude to my girlfriend. Overall they did not react at all until about 3 months later.
Since we were now looking for a new place to live they were supposed to introduce us to some new property while we were still trying to maintain a good relationship with them and of course avoid unnecessary new agency fees. You would think that after something like that we would be a top priority to them but no, our appointments were not booked until weeks later. We were in an urgent need to move out, literally homeless with all our belongings destroyed and we had to wait two weeks just to view a property?
Well, little does it matter because we got STOOD UP!
Anytime you call anyone from Tanat Jones there is a 80% chance he is out of the office and he will be back next week.
They do not maintain their property, they disrespect their clients (which are not the tenants actually but the house owners) stay away. Also they charge you fees for a variety of stuff they like to make up.
I find it sad that there are so many struggling businesses out there, trying to survive and businesses like Tanat Jones still exist.

Rude and unprofessional bunch of scoundrels. They will do anything to overcharge you and deduct as much as possible from your deposit (not to mention the unexplainable contract and renewal fees). Very poorly maintained properties on the verge of not meeting minimum living standards. Don't even think about booking a viewing with them either as you'll probably be stood up. Avoid TJ, they're greedy and dishonest.

I would without a doubt, say that Tanat-Jones & Co are the best letting agents I have ever dealt with.
They are a company who have gone above and beyond the call of duty when we had an urgent housing need.
We find them up front and honest, fair and professional.
We would be very reluctant to use any other agent.
Hats off to David, Tom and the rest of the team.

Good quality service by everyone at Tanat- Jones. Excellent communication and more importantly l have always found them friendly. I would recommend Tanat- Jones to any tenant having so far had a really good experience with them for the last 6 years.

The first letting agents I've used in Brighton who seemed switched-on, happy to help, and actually like normal people in conversation rather than the automatons I've encountered at some other establishments. Had no problems during tenancy - all issues with the house were dealt with promptly. Minor wranglings over return of full deposit was sorted thanks to the team explaining my point of view to the landlord, who then agreed to return the full amount.

Horrific people to deal with. Can't arrange viewings, don't show up, lie about sending text. Cowboys!!!! Stay away, you're better than that!!! Oh, and the woman answering the phone is rude and aggressive. Nick, what's that second star for?????? Surely one is one too many.

Better than expected... until it came time to move out!
We were (conveniently) never invited to the check-out inspection and subsequently had £240 deducted from our deposit for cleaning! That was despite spending 2 full days cleaning the house and garden and paying for a professional carpet clean. Our objections were effectively ignored. They were extremely slow to respond to emails and refused to provide the majority of evidence requested to support their claim that the house was left in a condition which necessitated a £240 cleaning job. We, however, did a full video tour of the house and provided a copy of the professional clean receipt. All this has been fruitless and we have been forced to enter into a lengthy adjudication process with the TDS.
In summary, they were fine as long as we were giving them the money owed to them. However, when it came to returning money owed to us, they were shown in a different light. Avoid this agency; they're dishonest and unprofessional.

Very bad service and feedback given. I had to pay old invoices of old tenant due to poor information/management given to third party (E-on ect...) . I am still struggling to get a feedback from Tanat.
Unless, the situation change I would certainly not recommend to go to this agency!

Just felt that I had to write something, as clearly there is one person with a bit of an issue with this Agency who made a few posts - its like these days people only make the effort when they are angry.

I have let through them for many years and found them to be truthful, honest, helpful, patient and fair.
