What is a flying freehold?

When you purchase a freehold in the UK, you have outright ownership of both the property and the land beneath it. A flying freehold exists when part of the property extends, protrudes or overhangs your neighbour's property. Freehold problems may occur between you and the other property owner when it comes to repairs, development and future saleability.
