I have now twice requested details of a property that Allen and Harris are selling. It is for my parents who do not have internet, therefore they wanted a hard copy. They still have not received any details. I know that this property has already sold once and come back on the market. You'd think they would be keen to get details out to interested parties. Seems not.

We used Allen & Harris for a probate sale for my late fathers house. Initially incredibly enthusiastic but as time passed & they got busier as the market opened up, contact lessened. Updates were only provided if we did the chasing & we had to prompt on several occasions to get the EPC done. Used their solicitors, Howells, who got it all done but again comms at time were slow & poor unless done on the phone. The biggest disappointment was the fact that no one bothered to telephone us on the day of completion. It smacks of being treated as an easy money earner for them, when in fact the emotions involved on the day were overwhelming. Not having used an EA for years, it’s difficult to know if this is standard service or not?

In terms of marketing and selling I would rate them 4/5. Another positive are the solicitors they recommend by default, I found Howells very easy to work with despite not being local. They were reasonable value money and did agree a performance based rate that I was happy to pay. Where they are poor is in looking after their customers once an offer was in place. Communication was not as strong as some other agents in the chain, even allowing for the pandemic. On several occasions facts were omitted to aid their cause, not ours. At no point did we feel they fought our corner during chain negotiations regarding moving dates. In short, trust was an issue. This maybe typical of many agents and the way things are, but I can relay my experience in this case. Anyone considering using them should balance the good with the bad and decide what you value most highly.
