I know I'm going to be served a good steak when I have dinner here and I was not disappointed on that regard. 6 of us ate here yesterday, a week before Christmas. The place had a warm and festive feel with open fire which was very welcoming. Food was hot, tasty and cooked to perfection. Reason for 3 star rating is that we were accidentally charged double for our puddings order. Apology and refund of overcharge were given without quibble, but this is not the first time we have encountered an error on our bill. Previously we were incorrectly charged for drinks and sides which we had not ordered nor received, this time double puddings. So a warning - check your bill before paying.... Read more

If you really know and like your steak this is the place to get it. Got there by chance however, will make sure to get back. Great service, great food and the steak was something special, juicy and tender but not bloody, just cooked to perfection, might have been the best one I've had. This is probably one of my favourite miller and Carter‘s. I love this restaurant and the staff that work here. I am always bringing my grandparents to, the staff are always so accommodating and make sure that we are sat near the disabled toilet if requested for them. The food is always amazing and cooked to perfection. I have never had any problems in here with food or staff and always looking forward to my next visit. We used to love to dine at this place and visited there quite often over the last dozen of years. Just recently I have booked the table for my wife’s birthday over there, looking forward to a nice family evening. Unfortunately all of this place’s charm is now gone. Service was miserable, food was overcooked, burned and tasteless served in the smudged plates with the dirty cutlery on the side. The stake house didn’t even look that busy, considering it was a dinner time on a bank holiday weekend. Don’t recommend it and will not be visiting this place any time soon.... Read more

Returning customer, we booked online last minute and we came for Saturday lunch time. We had the 3 fixed price lunch menu value for money! Starters, main and dessert! Good customer service. Although had only taken photo of mains, we shared our starter and dessert. All tasted great. The only feedback I would give is that on the occasions I have been there it seems there is a strong smell of bleach or cleaning product, which should be looked into for customer experience perspective.... Visited the restaurant yesterday evening 09.10.20 as have been to many other Miller & Carter restaurants as they have a good reputation and I have always had a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, this was the worst one I've been to and my partner and I were really disappointed. Firstly, when we arrived we were not acknowledged whatsoever despite clearly being seen by staff, I assume because the restaurant was very busy however I don't see this an an excuse. To tell a customer you'll be with them in a few minutes would suffice rather than looking and saying nothing. Secondly, when we were shown to a table the first thing I noticed was the bits food on the carpet at my feet, presumably from the previous diners, and slightly to my left in front of me a pile of dirty plates and glasses that hadn't quite made it from the tables to the kitchen, that were balancing on a ledge behind another families table. This is very unpleasant to be able to see and I think plates should be cleared from a table and taken straight to the kitchen, and if not always possible, put down momentarily, not for 20 minutes. Thirdly, it took 10/15 minutes before we were asked if we'd like a drink, and even this was only due to me prompting. We ordered and food arrived ok but again not at all as nice as other chains. The onion loaf/ wedge was cold and chewy- but then I was expecting this as I saw a tray of them sitting in the open kitchen for over 30 minutes. Lastly, I would to bring to your attention that it isn't very nice for diners to hear waiters/ staff shouting at each other across tables when communicating with one another- you may expect to hear this in a kitchen but not in the restaurant itself. I appreciate it was busy and staff were obviously rushed off their feet but the manic atmosphere was very unpleasant to sit and eat in. I would however like to add that despite being extremely busy the waiter we had was very nice and friendly, and was genuinely surprised we left a tip (for him!) as he could see that the whole experience wasn't up to scratch at all. Four of us went on Saturday evening to celebrate a birthday, we didn't need a party as it was full of people and great atmosphere. There was a log fire with people just having a drink at the bar. Went there for Xmas lunch. Premium price as expected for the season but no drinks included and running late so left to buy drinks in bar. Nice table, hard working & pleasant waitress. Food ok. However, we asked several times for the music above our table to be turned down, our waitress passed on our request but they took little notice. Is it too much to expect to hear the conversation at your table?!! Was glad to leave to get some peace. Went to this restaurant 100 times before in summer this company is my favourite food for steaks ..we went tonight and I was devastated with the quality and poor service slow staff ..and when I asked for a discount on our bill the Manager said he would only discount the drinks bill as I myself had to go and get my own drinks from the bar like a waitress working. I was stunned with his attitude that I read his rights in law to get a discount. Our night was ruined as we are Newly Married celebrating a meal with was of poor satisfactory. Sale of Goods Act 1982 and Under Consumer Rights laws they were wrong to refuse. I had to put up with a lady waitress coming over too getting involved when she was not our waitress. I was already talking to the Manager why do I need another member if staff telling me my rights when that is my field. We would never go back there it has gone down hill since we came last time. Lack of staff is a serious problem...plus ignoring customers who pay good money for high prices when I cook a better steak at home is unacceptable! To call Miler and Carter the best steak restaurant think again public save your money stay at home cook a good steak yourself less stress and more appetizing.... Read more

I love the menu! Food was cooked brilliantly in generous portion and nicely presented. Various options from different steak cuts to ribs, chicken and fish from the grill as well as salad and other vegetarian selection. The bone marrow side dish is very unique and flavourful - definitely recommend. This is a spacious restaurant - nicely decorated and give a warm welcoming vibe. Lovely staff all round whenever our visit was. There is a great outdoor seating area overlooking the green, which is perfect for a warmer sunny day. Sufficient parking bays as we always manage to park. We always reserve a table beforehand but walking in as a small party of 2 may not entail a long wait during busy period. Overall, we have been very satisfy after each of our visit and will definitely come back often.... Read more

I've given this place two stars because I think they were having a bad day. One star is for the one chap who seemed rushed off his feet and did his best to serve us and the other is for the fact that I could assume the food might normally be good here. The rest of the service was very poor. The food took over an hour to get to us, and this was preceeded by us waving at people to get someone to come and serve us after waiting for 35 mins. When the food came an hour later the bone marrow was ice cold in the centre, and the rest of the meat was just about warm before it went cold. We had a platter and half of the meat was cooked too long and half was border line rare. I would normally have been fine with this but the coldness, the bone marrow started to turn my stomach a bit. Then there was the waiter staff. They seemed friendly but it was a bit surreal. A chap jumped out seconds (literally) after we sat down virtually startling us to ask if we wanted a bottle of wine... Though it was more of a "Come on guys you want wine surely" which fortunately my girlfriend answered because I was a bit perplexed by the suggestion. Then there was the coming to check if we were okay after we'd been waiting so long and we're clearly not okay and to be honest wanted to quietly just get on with our food. I'd have just preferred a short apology that it took so long rather than forced smiles and a poking at us almost to say "yes, it's all fine". Anyway I think on a good day I think it might be a reasonable place to eat in a lovely location but this wasn't a good day.... Read more

As ever. Lovely food. Use it all the time . However, the only issue is, and is always the same issue, drinks. They take a long time to get you your first drink and they take ages to get you drinks during your meal. I end up ordering 10 minutes before actually wanting the drink as it takes so long. On my 30th I actually ended up collecting the bottles of wine myself off the bar as I was so fed up with waiting for it to drink with our steak. Sort that and it's an amazing restaurant.... I absolutely love this place I come back time and time again and they never disappoint. Everything from the food to the atmosphere to the service which is by far the best I've ever experienced. On my last visit i was served by mylene who was fantastic and catered to our every need and it was the best I've had in any miller and carter. Dave the manager is the main reason I visit this branch he goes over and beyond to make you feel welcome and wanted. Highly recommended for groups or couples. Can not fault them at all!... Read more

Booked Saturday afternoon for that evening.. no problem at all. Arrived a bit early but taken straight to our table. The staff were amazing..friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. I would recommend the grain fed ribeye totally melt in the mouth. We were looked after perfectly so had a wonderful birthday meal. Will not hesitate to visit again much prefer this branch than Lakeside which we usually use. A1 and five stars!!... Read more

Absolutely loved every experience I’ve had coming to this restaurant. Always get seated straight away, asked what drinks etc which arrive really quickly. I’ve had Michelle serve me most times (pretty sure that was her name) and she was amazing from start to finish. There was a starter on the menu we wanted as a main and she sorted everything. Also other meals that we wanted substitutions for and she spoke to the chef on the day (who was also very friendly and catered to all of our needs) and got it sorted straight away! Arrived super quick and boiling hot. Couldn’t fault the food one bit, most perfectly cooked steak I’ve ever had. Will be returning next week for a family birthday and I can’t wait . Incredible setting in the countryside, surrounded by fields with horses. The building is like a barn conversion but with very modern interior. The view from the top floor is breathtaking, great outdoor area. The large sirloin steak is award winning for a reason, the side dishes which come with it are perfect with a great variety if accompagnements. The house wine is perfectly selected.... Read more

Very nice restaurant. Upon arrival we were slightly early so waited at the bar until table was ready. After about 10 minutes waiting to be served a drink the girl at the bar took our order for drinks and took our money. Then she preceded to take the next person's order and served their drinks. I sat there for the next five minutes wondering if we had been forgotten about. When I reminded the young girl about our drinks she pulled a face and said she forgot and took our order again. We didn't have to wait too long till we were seated at our table. We sat overlooking the kitchen but unfortunately had to sit and listen to one of the female staff really moaning about how she had worked over her hours again for another day and she was working late yet again and never got any thanks. This went on for a while. We ordered food which was very nice except my steak which should have been medium rare but was more well done and was tough to cut in places. Desert was nice and didn't have to wait too long. The waitress Michelle was very friendly and very busy considering most of the upper level we were on was empty. When ordering another drink they didn't arrive so had to remind the waitress who went to get them which she came straight back with. It was also quite chilly to the point that my partner had to put his jacket on. Don't think I would return to this restaurant as have Been to other Miller and Carter restaurants which have had much better overall experience.... Read more

The longest and most disappointing Christmas meal I've ever had. After arriving for our 2 o'clock we got seated at 2:45. We then waited 45 minutes for the wrong starter. Another 45 minutes went by and we got our main which consisted of the driest turkey known to man. Though the sausage and potatoes were nice. Another 45 minutes and we got our dessert which...had collapsed, dribbling its contents all over the rest of the plate. The meal was topped off with an order of an americano and a cappuccino. But instead received two americanos. And cold ones at that. The staff worked extremely hard and deserve recognition for their efforts. It's the management that was shockingly deficient. Came to restaurant after hard bike race and was so hungry. Asked for beer and loot at the picture of glass for it I was given. Ok drinking from bottle wasn't that bad. But when had to wait for waitress for 27 min so had enough and left it went to Tesco instead. Can imagine how how people preparing our food if They serving beer in such glasses... I have been going to this pub from way back in the 70's. This was by far the worst. It took nearly 4 hours for a 3 course meal. Everything I had including my Expresso was cold and went back. We complained about the service and length of time it took. Even our deserts came separately, with the first being finished before the last had even arrived. Please don't respond with your usual rubbish about "thanks for letting us know we will use it to improve service" Really do something to bring this pub, that means a lot to people in the area, back to how it should be. Really disappointed with this visit, it's usually a very enjoyable experience with great food and lovely staff but on this occasion the service was very poor! We asked if we could be moved as it was very cold where we were sitting, this seemed to upset the waiter, although he did go and see if there were any other tables which there weren't. I know Saturday nights are busy nights but on asking the waiter to give us a few more minutes to decide what to eat he came back half an hour later to take our order!!! There was no service he didn't check to see if our meals were ok, the only saving grace was that the food was good.... Read more

Disappointed just after walking through the door. No staff at the bar to which after 10mins and no one appearing, decided to go to our table to which there was only 1 lady seating people so this took some time too. Table was dirty and old chips on the floor under the table. A Star goes to the waiter we had, brilliant service from him and he was friendly and order was all correct. A star goes to the high end quality of food. Steak was amazing and the last star goes to food prep. It was all cooked to perfection as requested and was very enjoyable. It's nice to sit outside here in the evening watching the sun go down with a drink. We also had some steak which was tasty and cooked well. The food is very good. Our waitress was less than attentive, and had to be asked several times for extra water. My final comment and main complaint is in the hot weather the staff opened the "back door" of the restaurant which opens on to fields with horses and cows. We were almost immediately inundated with flies. So the second half of our meal consisted of swishing and swatting flies away from our food and table. Although this seems like a nice idea on a summer's evening, I don't think this is actually good practice in a restaurant where food hygiene should be of paramount importance. A bit hit and miss. Awesome food, amazing. All steaks cooked to perfection, and starters were really good too. Unfortunately though, table service was pretty much non existent. Got our order taken eventually after nearly 30 minutes of waiting for a waitress to come back, and then it was even taken by the lady taking bookings at the door (who to be fair, was very apologetic). Then had to wait 45 minutes for starters, where one was forgotten (starting to lose patience at this point), but quickly made up. Had to keep chasing people down for drinks and removed all empties and non used wine glasses ourselves as they weren't being picked up. Service got better after starters as the manager (?) and kitchen staff were then checking in on us regularly, but still no sign of any waiters or waitresses after we'd finished our meals. Well we arrived at 7pm & the food came out at 9:30.....and.the air didn't work which didn't help! I asked for the half rack of ribs meal with half a lobster tail & a pancetta salad. Which I received all separately. (The salad came when I was leaving). And my girlfriends cod and chips was warm in the middle through out! To be fair the lady serving us tried all evening to be as quick as she could but she couldn't serve us & the tables on the lower floors at the same time as we were a party of sixteen ......come on Miller and Carter give Michelle some help!! I was so dismayed my girlfriend said how lovely Miller and Carter was.
