I would thoroughly recommend Southdown surveyors. I used them for a snagging report on a new build and their service was top notch. Lisa and Caroline coordinated excellently from the office while Mike made a thorough review of the property and produced a fantastic report with numerous observations which were extremely useful. At first I was hesitating whether to do a snagging report but I would strongly recommend it for any new build buyer - the specialists simply see so much more than you can - and secondly I would have no hesitation in recommending Southdown. In my case, they even went the extra mile by revisiting the property at my request to look at something I felt had been missed, though which was not technically their mistake.. in other words, they listened reasonably and came to a good and fair solution which showed their excellent customer service credentials.... Southdowns have mismanaged our property from the day they took over the contract. We had a small leak when it rained and they did nothing that was a year ago. Now we have a large leak which is finally being addressed but the problem behind it has become more substantial. When contacted for small jobs lights blown in the communal hallway, lift not working they have to be badged into doing something. Avoid them save your money.... Read more

Steer well clear of this company. Wouldn't recommend at all. The report he carried out was padded out and contradictory. The way in which he made comments about asbestos and plaster and lathe and the fact that the artex ceilings are prone to asbestos. Rubbish. I have in hand a complete report on asbestos and fire risk and nothing adverse. He even stated that the buyer should contact the service provider as there was no internet and telephone point despite my television in plain view, the fact that he went over to "knock the brick wall" bearing in mind the house has been standing since 1910!!. The telephone point and modem for the interent and WIFI is standing on a small table beside where my husband was sitting, but the surveyor stated there wasn't any points. I rang to invite Matthew to come back to show me the artex ceilings (to which there are none in the home, but of course he didn't return my call. I telephoned the office and spoke to the receptionist who I found to be rude and obnoxious. No customer service at all, merely tried to talk over me. I informed the receptionist that despite the adverse report that the surveyor gave my buyer I had to had voluminous evidence to show the contrary to which she replied...." well then you have the reports that will show otherwise then won't you". Idiot... Once the surveyor has carried out this adverse report then the damage is done.. I could rant on and on but cannot be bothered. I considered taking my complaint to the Ombudsman as clearly the surveyor's report was padded, contradictory and some of the comments he made were erroneous.... Read more

I used Southdown for a full building survey, and I've been really impressed with both the communication from their offices, and the detail of the survey received. In addition to the normal scope of the survey, I had some specific queries for the surveyor, which he addressed comprehensively. The report contained a lot more detail than I expected, and some of the additional information really saved me some work when I moved in to the property! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Southdown for your house survey.... Read more
