Lovely hotel with a great room and comfy bed. Unfortunately the food was really unpleasant - and the service was some of the worst I’ve experienced. Shame as it has the potential to be a great place but sadly the restaurant is really atrocious. Eating there did ruin our evening as we spent so long waiting on every course - wouldn’t have minded enormously but the food was really terrible too when it did come. Would definitely stay in the hotel again but not go to the restaurant.... Read more

Whilst we enjoyed our stay here and appreciated the upgraded features, there were a couple of things not right. Our room was quite pokey and we had to ask for a replacement duvet as we had what can only be described as a winter duvet in the middle of summer. And why oh why have paper cups in the bedroom!! Also, charged £11 for a glass of wine and when I queried this, was told it was correct! it wasn't even a good wine, but I did get a refund. BUT the breakfast was the best!... Read more

On the outside, the hotel looks very unassuming, but once you're through the doors, its a totally different story. The entire hotel was like something from an interior design 'how to' book, and looked fantastic. The check in process was friendly, efficient and the COVID-19 precautions were well thought through and visible throughout the hotel.
The room we checked into was wonderful. We had a 'comfy double' room and it was certainly that. The finish was beautiful, it was very clean and the bed was superb.
We had a fantastic time in their bar and lounges, which were very stylish and the drinks were delicious. The hotel is dog friendly so you may share your drink with some 4 legged friends.
Breakfast was efficient and tasty, although there is no buffet at the moment, so everything is brought to your table. For the money and the location, we couldn't fault it for a lovely weekend escape. Its worth checking our their own website for some amazing deals!... Read more

Came for a Saturday pub lunch with a group of friends and unfortunately we were all really disappointed with the food and service. The pie was a real flop coming as a bowl of meat and a tiny lid of pastry. The pastry to meat ratio was really sad. The pie also had a very vinegar taste. What really topped it off was the lack of service. No waiter waited on us. Our drinks glasses remained empty for the whole meal and we couldnt ask for the bill quick enough to head to another pub. I don't do this often but we asked to remove the service charge. We moved to the King's Arms and the pie looked a lot better and cheaper!... Read more

It's cute and cozy, with higgledy-piggledy stairs and corridors. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The beds are comfortable and the TV has lots of channels.
Service is perfect. Staff is kind and understanding and eager to help. And the hotel is fantastically dog-friendly.
Be sure to reserve a parking space, because parking nearby is a nightmare and the town is situated on steep hills.
Negatives: the food wasn't to our taste and there was no information booklet or the like in our room, so we had no way of knowing what time breakfast was, how to order room service or how to make use of any other facilities.

The White Horse in Dorking has a beautiful building both inside and out that feels warm and welcoming. The restaurant has a great menu with well prepared food and good selection of drinks.
However, the management here leaves much to be desired. I have witnessed waitresses and waiters being openly berated by management and this unfortunately sets the tone for the work ethos here.
One example was when my fiancée asked whether the food she was looking to order had nuts, since she suffers from a life threatening allergy. The waitress failed to check and simply put in the order, later bringing out the dish... with nuts. She was unwilling to accept the error and passed off the severity of the issue, did not correct the problem and then walked away leaving my fiancée hungry and feeling completely ignored. Unfortunately this is just one of a few encounters that I have either witnessed, or heard of from friends that have visited - enticed by the great food and the fantastic atmosphere.
If you fancy a cup of tea and need a quite, settled place to work then this place is fantastic. If your dining experience relies on great, accommodating service then you will unfortunately be dependant on who is serving you. You may prefer the experience at the Pizza Express across the road.... Just had full English breakfast at this establishment.
Poached eggs were well cooked but cold, sausage and bacon were under cooked. Seriously chef the quality of sausage is paramount to a good English, these tasted fridge frozen and low meat content. Had dinner there 14th March 2018. Do not know where they have spent all the money on refurbishing the premises, but the restaurant is bland. Service was unbelievably bad and we needed to ask for drinks several times. We pointed this out to staff and they said "they were busy". The place was only half full!! They seemed to spend a great deal of time chatting to each other. When serving, the staff were reaching across other diners to deliver the food and thus interupting any conversation flow. Very rude. They obviously had not been trained. Understand they have been without a restaurant manager for over 2 months but a new person had just started.
Only one of the main dishes was hot and 3 meals had to be sent back.
Probably the worst dining experience I have ever had. Charlotte did her best to remedy the situation by not charging for the drinks.
Appalling, never again!!!... Read more

The food was also very good although it took a very long time for a basket of bread to arrive, but this was then deducted from our bill. Nice hotel along the main road, within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and bars. I'd recommend not eating at the hotel restaurant but heading out to some of the others around (especially The Old House). Rooms can differ from fantastic to mediocre, I was lucky enough to stay in the modified stables at the back of this hotel 2 out of the 3 times I've visited The White Horse. There is currently (May 2017) a LOT of work going on demolishing and clearing away the older parts of the hotel, this does mean that if you're in the old stables you're view from the window is literally a building site. The staff are always welcoming and happy to help, very clean and well presented hotel, toiletries (not toothpaste) provided in small quantities if you forget them, or like myself, don't pack them.
