Barnard Marcus Dorking were who I chose to put my house on the market with as Tricia and the team (Emma and Kirsty) were extremely friendly and personal. I wasn’t just a house owner. Current manager of the Dorking branch (Tricia Regan) has to be the world's most annoying by repeatedly ringing up old contacts on their database from three years ago to try to badger those customers in to having an in person valuation visit on their home and then phoning them repeatedly (at least 7 times in my case) if they won't agree to this.
Tricia is pushy, badgering, persistent, relentless and won't take no for an answer but definitely not intelligent, analytical, logical or efficient. And she is the kind of pushy sales person so lacking in intuition that she simply won't accept no for an answer...
UPDATE ON 29/11/2022 - Re Barnard Marcus's response to my review surely the branch manager ought to realise that people on its books from past interactions do not necessarily currently want to sell their home and that if they did they would almost certainly proactively call Barnard Marcus back to set up such a valuation appointment so they could get on with selling their home. Calling customers back and leaving answerphone messages multiple times on their answerphones suggests something close to an addiction to making these sales based phone calls without either evaluating or considering their effectiveness.
Also the branch manager surely ought to realise that for those of us more actively in the hoarder camp and without neat and tidy and well presented homes that inviting somebody else in to your home to inspect, appraise and value it is something you are unlikely to want to do unless you are absolutely desperate to sell and/or have got to the point where you have managed to tidy it up to the extent that you do want to have a valuation visit and the resulting sales visits from buyers that would then soon follow on from that.
Some of us have also been through major personal traumas such as having our last parent die and being forced to sell a much loved family home of 50 years in the UK and a holiday property of over 30 years in Spain. So having to go through that process again with your own home is not at all easy to do.
I get the impression that the branch manager values quantity over quality in terms of valuation visits and/or number of properties currently on the agency's books. Whereas if they only valued and had on the market well presented homes from sellers with an imperative to sell them ASAP then the would surely be much more likely to get a much more cost effective payback in relation to the time they have put in to conduct this selling work.
Also this bad review would not have happened at all had the branch manager not kept on calling me and leaving messages repeatedly over several weeks well beyond any level of normal reason or good judgement in the making of such sales based phone calls. I received a number of phone calls at much longer intervals apart from the previous manager at the same branch and always found his phone calls pleasant and engaging and did not find myself pressurised to let the agency send staff in to my home in the way that has unfortunately been the case with Ms Regan.

On the whole I think the team at Barnard Marcus did a great job of selling my house and finding me a new one to buy (which came back to me after I had lost it first time round.
My house had been on the market for several months with another local agent, with 23 viewings and no offer. Barnard Marcus got me an offer after only 3 viewings - that eventually fell through due to delays my end, but they secured another offer quite quickly and thankfully that coincided with the house I thought I had lost coming back on the market.
Communication was generally good although I was a little less impressed with the in-house/recommended conveyancing solicitor (Leadenhall), who I thought was a bit slow and lacked attention to detail. The in-house mortgage advisor was also not really worth using as the fee was much higher to get me a mortgage available elsewhere for free - a flaw in the business model there I think. All in all though, very glad to have finally moved after a long wait during Covid and a couple of members of the team were really good.

Having just recently completed on a property in Dorking, being sold through the Barnard Marcus Dorking branch, I was eager to leave a review to express how fantastic they've been!
Particular shout-outs to Louis, who was a great point of contact early on in the process to show me around the property and to answer any and all queries, and also to Katie, who looked after the sale progress after my offer had been accepted.
As is often the case, back and forth between the solicitors could drag at times, but the team at Barnard Marcus were always on hand to nudge things along :)
Upon completion, it was also lovely to be greeted with smiles and well wishes (as well as a much appreciated 'settling in' giftbox) from the team when I picked up the keys at their branch.
All in all a great service, and can't recommend them enough. A huge thanks once again!!

What could possibly go wrong with a property transfer between an urgent buyer and a reluctant seller?
With both parties having vastly different expectations in this process, it came down to the delightful Katie Shean to save the day. With protracted email exchanges over six months, emotions running high and the palpable threat of the transfer falling through, Katie remained calm and professional and thanks to her excellent people skills and dogged determination to see things through, the transfer finally came to completion and the buyer and the seller lived happily ever after in their respective new abodes.
Also, a special thank you to Arif Dogansoy for his market knowledge, valuable guidance and advice and for having the endless patience when dealing with high-maintenance clients. And a shout out to Peter Clark for his input in the negotiation process and to Louis Lepere for providing a VIP service on the date of completion.
