Having read great reviews and heard similar positive feedback from local friends, we were looking forward to dinner at the Inn on the Hill. However, since most of these reviews were written, there appears to have been a change of ownership and whilst the menu has remained the same the quality clearly hasn't.
The slightly worn Argentinian steakhouse theme is at odds with the Italian delivery. This shouldn't affect the enjoyment of the food, but unfortunately, the steaks we were served were okay, but inconsistently cooked and presented in a manner you'd expect of a local cafe. The price point is what you would expect from a high quality restaurant, but the food is, at best average.
On the plus side, the wine menu is pretty good and the waiter's knowledge supported it.
There is a desire for a decent local restaurant and tremendous amount of good will shown to any owner willing to redeliver quality. Unfortunately, The Inn on the Hill currently falls way short of delivering.
I visited with my wife today. We ordered starters and mains. My starter was forgotten and had to be chased. By the time it arrived my wife had finished hers. The mains turned up together but minus the requested side-salad. We did not bother to chase it. We ordered a second round of drinks which never arrived yet when we asked for the bill the salad and extra drinks were on it.
We queried this with the waitress and they were removed. She was the best aspect of the place but she was let down by her colleagues who seemed good at ensuring things appeared on the bill but were not so good at getting them to you. The place was not busy so there was no excuse for such bad organisation.
We had to pay by cash as they were having trouble with their card-reader. This was a big problem potentially as there are no handy cash machines at all so what you would do if you only had plastic I don't know.
I've given three stars as the steak was the one of the best I've ever had and, despite everything, I would go back and give them a second chance as it is a nice comfortable place. It just needs to improve its service to justify its prices.
An important thing to note is that the kitchen is not open round the clock. It is open for lunch and for dinner from 6pm. Outside of this you can only get drinks and basic pub snacks such as crisps and nuts.
Brilliant service, very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and great value, who could ask for more?
I came across Small Car Services a few years ago when I had a Fiat Seicento, a car old enough and uncommon enough to make getting parts a bit irritating.
All work and servicing carried out by this outfit has been quick and very competitively priced as are the prices charged for components.
Dean even remembered that car from working at the original dealership.
I’ve never had to wait long for a slot and even with my current non Fiat related car they are more than willing to keep my custom.
What a brilliant small garage.
I had dealings with two amazing super professional agents here. Jenna who showed me the property and then Martin the director were utterly faultless and would not hesitate to recommend them. If you want to get a proper agent to deal with, look no further than these guys and gals.
I recently starting letting a property in Locks Heath with Taylor Hill & Bond and the service has been brilliant. Always someone available to help and quick to fix any issues we’ve encountered with the property.
A huge thank you to everyone at Taylor Hill and Bond for their amazing service in purchasing our dream home. The whole team were brilliant from start to finish, kept us in the loop the whole time with constant contact and were always easy to get hold of to sort any problems.
Thank you so much.
Small office in Warwick lane Wickham. Very friendly staff.
I was at West Hill in the early 1980s and have extremely fond memories of it as a really happy time. The setting is idyllic, the opportunities are numerous and the teachers are motivated and dedicated. It felt like a place where all sorts of different children would thrive - being stretched and challenged where appropriate but in a supportive environment. I would whole-heartedly recommend it.
My eldest child, Alfie, started at West Hill in Reception and is now at the end of year 6. We also have two other children at the school in year 4 and Reception. We have always felt so lucky to be able to send our children to this school, but the recent Corona virus pandemic has just brought that into focus even more.
The online learning program that the school, put together has been so well done and beneficial to all three of the children. The hard work and commitment that the teachers showed throughout the whole lockdown period really went above and beyond, with many of the lessons delivered live via google classroom or accompanied by teacher videos with the opportunity to dial into the teacher during lesson time.
The school reopened for the majority of pupils on Monday. As we drove down the driveway and through the various year group drop off zones, every single member of staff waved and smiled with genuine warmth and kindness. It felt like we were part of a real community.
For these precious three weeks before the end of term, the children are able to go to a school where the staff are caring, fun, enthusiastic and hard working. It feels like such a positive place to be for the children after lockdown and for that we will be eternally grateful.
